“Comfortable apartment on Stromboli”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 11, 2014

An easy walk from the port, the room was large and had a nice terrace upstairs with sun loungers views of both the sea and Stromboli. There's decent, free wifi in reception. Breakfast at Ingrid's cafe was pleasant (freshly squeezed orange - most other hotels we stayed at in Sicily had unpleasant fake juice - a cappuccino and pastry). I'm sure there are fancier places, and accommodation nearer the ferry, but it was perfectly OK and I'd stay here again (unfortunately you couldn't walk up the volcano when we visited so we go may well come back). The Cafe Frank boat trip to see the lava was excellent, with about 10 of us on a RIB unlike the other companies where you either spent most of the time going around the island or were crammed in like sardines and so wouldn't have been able to get decent photos).

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a sun terrace

We booked at the last minute and Pedra was the only place which had a room big enough for us available. The lady with whom we booked was very nice and allowed us to put 4 people (including 2 small children) into a triple. Even so, this place was disappointing: they could not pick us up from the ferry because “their van was broken”, and so told us to take 10-Euro taxi. Breakfast was not available in the B&B – they gave us coupons to have breakfast at Ingrid, a bar several hundred metres away. There we had a pastry and a coffee each, but since it was a bar, not more than that. There was no Wifi in the place, so we were given coupons for 1 hour of internet at the Ingrid bar. The receptionist seriously gave me a hard time for asking for more than 2 coupons, and only handed over 2 more grudgingly. The room smelled somewhat and had a half-used hotel shampoo in the bathroom as well as a line of grime on the windowsill. Only one side of the window shutters opened. A sign at the reception encouraged payment the night before, because guests need to clear out by 10:30 AM. A B&B charging 210 EUR per night for a triple needs to do way better than this. We won’t return to this faintly brutalistic place, and would encourage others to seek other accommodation on this wonderful island. I hope the management reads this, and thinks seriously about its approach.

WARNING: If you are travelling to Stromboli be aware that the ferry boat can be cancelled due to bad weather conditions (rough sea). If you have made a non refundable reservation at Pedra residence you will not get you money back, although you are not responsible for not reaching Stromboli. They offer to you another night of your choice in compensation. This happened to me on 13/05/2014. Suggestion: do not book a room at Pedra residence before arriving to Stromboli.

The B&B Pedra wil be our first choice when we come back to Stromboli. Wonderful spacious rooms, very tasteful furnished. Our room included a small kitchen, so that we could prepare small lunches or dinners.
The terrace is a must see with its direct sea view to Strombolicchio. Very nice to spend an afternoon on.
The staff is very friendly and helpful and has any information on what to do on the island.
Breakfast is only so-so: pre-packed Croissants etc.

Apart from the breakfast a recommendation!

The property was very nicely furnished with kind of countryside feel in the room, which I loved. Very clean bathroom, with shaving creams, shampoos, razors - very convenient for ladies. Nice terrace with swinging chairs. The breakfast was served outside of the hotel in a restaurant just next to the church and we could choose what we wanted from croissants, paninis etc, all very yummy. The view from the restaurant was stunning. We arrived at about 11AM and although the check in was at about 14:30, we were immediately let in, which was very good as I was exhausted and needed some sleep. It is also about 2 mins walk from the church, which is a starting point for the trek with Magmatrek to the top of Stromboli vulcano. The volcanic beach is also 2 mins away.

Our time at the Pedra Residence was very pleasant. Our studio was nicely furnished, very large and had a separate well-equipped kitchenette & a bigger than average bathroom. The star turn, however, was the private terrace which was very roomy and came complete with two sun loungers, a patio table & chairs and a rocking chair. There were sea views and you could even get a glimpse of Stromboli's summit if you tried hard enough. We only stayed one night but wished it could have been longer. A couple of points to note. Firstly, it is around 10-15 minutes walk from the ferry port but don't worry as it's a pleasant stroll if slightly undulating and you could always take one of the golf cart taxis if you prefer. Secondly, breakfast is served in a bar cum restaurant 5 minutes away on the main square by the church. But don't let either of these things put you off as Pedra Residence is a lovely - if quite expensive - place to stay.

With a rooftop terrace with views of the Med one way and Stromboli the other this was the perfect retreat for me. Just 5 minutes walk from the start of the Stromboli trek and daily breakfast at Ingrid Retrivo, friendly helpful reception.
