“Great hotel in a city largely devoid of tourists”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 21, 2011 via mobile

My wife and I stayed here three nights on our trip to Italy and thoroughly enjoyed our experience.
The hotel is situated on a pedestrian street in the lower part of Spoleto which although farther from Spoleto's uphill attractions, it offers the traveler to experience real life in Italy.
The staff were gracious and accommodating, we were given an early check-in and a late checkout without issue. The frescoed hotel was a treat and a bargain, the room was clean and all conveniences were modern. Breakfast was adequate and served in some beautifully frescoed rooms.
The only issue was the centuries old shower problem in Europe - shower curtains don't exist and a half-glass door doesn't cut it! My wife flooded the bathroom every time she took a shower, but it was cleaned up spotlessly every day by the staff.
Overall, Spoleto is excellent for people wanting a more real experience in Italy than just tourist towns and massive crowds. Cavalier Palace is a great place to stay for this experience.

The hotel staff were very helpful and welcoming. The whole place was immaculate and seeing how the staff cleaned one could understand why. Our bedroom had a window onto the main street which meant one could observe the passagiata every evening and the later activity at weekends when the young of the town continued the second instalment until the early hours; the double glazing ensured that the inconvenience from this was minimal.Breakfast was good and the setting was superb;one could see how the dining room looked when it was a palace. Rates normally are high but look out for special offers when they are nearer 2-star rates and an absolute bargain.I have stayed in few hotels as luxurious as this and none so cheaply.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms facing the street if you are susceptible to any noise

Room 101: spatious room with spatious bathroom (shower) and window facing court yard. Including breakfast we paid Eur 180 for 2 nights via booking.com. Hotel has free wifi. Friendly and professional staff. Located in shopping street and you cannot park there. Cars can be parked anywhere else in town except on the adjacent square. The hotel provides a parking permit (10 eur deposit). Only thing is that on Fridays and Saturdays parking is also not allowed in some other areas, but you are well informed by the hotel staff. If for some reason you need your car to be very near by, this is not the place for you.

We visited Spoleto for a long weekend and stayed at the Cavaliere for three nights. The hotel is located at the bottom of the town, so most of the attractions are a climb. The hotel is very clean and the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. My husband sprang for one of the rooms with frescos on the ceilings - this was a nice treat and did make the experience feel more unique. Breakfast is ok, nothing spectacular. Parking is a little complicated - the hotel issues you a pass and then you find on-street parking yourself. There is an escalator in Spoleto, not far from the hotel, which I highly recommend for getting up to the top of the hill. I have stayed in Spoleto before (in a hotel at the top of the hill) and actually preferred staying at the bottom this time (nice to have a downhill walk at the end of a long active day).

Two women "of a certain age" loved every minute!  All of the pictures are accurate!  We had a much more modest room than is pictured, but it was clean and quiet.  The front desk staff were very helpful, even though they were not fluent in English (how arrogant we are to espect that!).  The building has a courtyard and also a terrace off the 1st floor (second floor US) which overlooks a grassy backyard.  Internet connection available, lovely breakfast....I asked for "hot chocolate" and it was so thick I could almost stand my spoon up in it.An added bonus was that it was only about 6 blocks (FLAT) to the series of escalators that took us up to the top of the city each morning, so that we could wind our way DOWNHILL back to the hotel.  10 Euros flat fee from the train station.  One minor complaint (and this is NOT the Hotel's fault) is that the little dot on the map signifying the location is not very accurate.  It looks very close to the Duomo and it is not.

"Our room overlooked the garden and was quiet. It was beautifully decorated with quality furnishings, a comfortable king sized bed and comfortable pillows. The bathroom was modern with bath tub and good shower and the rooms were spotlessly clean. The hotel provides free high speed internet and parking (outside the historic centre). They recommended the best restaurant in Italy!"
