Unlike many other hotels in Tuscany this one was actually well signposted, although finding it at night would be a challenge as the nearer you got to the hotel the more handwritten the signs and the more basic the roads. We did wonder if we had read them correctly when we descended a steep bank which seemed to take us through a building site but it was in fact the right one! This sounds like a bad introduction to what was actually a very nice hotel, although you need to have a measure of physical fitness to cope with the uphill walk into the town.
There is parking outside the hotel but as it is on a one way system you really would benefit from a SatNav/GPS just in case you can't find a parking spoace immediately.
Warm welcome, plenty of tourist guides and recommendations made by the English speaking staff.
Very nice room with handpainted wall decorations. Bed was comfortable. Everything was very clean.
The courtyard would be a lovely place to sit in in the summer. To get to the town centre is about 400yards up some very steep banks and steps. To get to the Duomo is about 200 yards further up more steps. Coming back was bliss! There are some good eating places up in the market place. The amphitheatre was a bit disappointing and I had hoped for a little more accessible history. The museum of modern art was good and worth a visit if you like that sort of thing.
Hotel breakfast was standard cakes and coffee. Not bad but have had more variety in lesser hotels but certainly satisfactory.
All in all well worth a stay if you like exercise.
