“Great value for money, close to the slopes with amazing entertainment”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 7, 2011

Have been looking at the reviews and needed to put a few things in perspective for anyone else thinking of wanting to go somewhere close to the slopes and value for money.

I went here for Christmas with my wife and daughter and were met by incredibly polite staff, and a room which proved excellent value for money- our SC room was over £500 for the same period elsewhere in Europe! Furthermore, getting 2 free meals thrown in is great value and saved even more money!

So what about the complaints of others?

- Cracked tiles? Well people have said on here they kept ski equipment in their rooms, I saw this happening myself, so who's surprised that people walking around in ski boots have caused this?!
- Rude staff? Not my experience whatsoever, in fact the entertainment staff were amazing and so energetic. MY observation is, maybe Brits should at least TRY to speak the language! There were times I was embarrassed to be English.
- Build quality? Well it was put up for the Olympics, nuff said! (Let's see the accommodation in London in 2016!)

Not to everyone's taste I'm sure, but where is? The fact about the place is it has amazing slopes, almost deserted and friendly locals. I'll be going back there again- based on some reviews the slopes may be even quieter- GREAT!

The services and the management are below any standard. The Villaggio Olimpico has enormous potential but not with the people currently leading it. We posted a complaint about cold water – yes the water was not warm – let's say it was about 40 degrees not more and about the heating which goes on warm air – it dries you out completely. The heating was supposed to be adjustable individually in the room but it is not true. The lower temperature was set to 23 degrees ad it was impossible to sleep with that. We never got a feedback for our complaints (every day – at the end in written) and nobody tried to solve the problems. Young people that work there are not professional and skilled.
Internet costs 2 euros per hour and it can be accessed only in the lobby.
Bed sheets had holes (remember this is a 4 star accommodation).
TV programmes are only Italian or Austrian.
The windows were dirty.
The swimming pool is poor and without any places where to sit or relax.
The whole complex is half finished – being built fast but never finalised. Bedrooms are not isolated from the living room. The lights in the rooms are halogen/neon – awful.
The director at the end couldn't explain the reason for the cold water and offered us a dinner which we refused of course. How can one expect to repay the cold water for the whole week with a dinner? Incompetence at a glance I must say.
Don't go there, there are lots of nicer places around for the same or less money.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. While I wish you had a better experience, it is feedback like this that we learn from and use to improve. We work hard to deliver an exceptional guest experience, and it's apparent in this case that we fell short. If you give us a chance to earn back your trust, I can assure you that we will do our best to give you the great hotel experience that so many of our guests have grown so fond of.

Good Points :
- Cleaned rooms every day
- Great location (Very Very close to the slopes, short walk into town)
- Good enough sized room for a week
- Great food in the restaurant (Something to suit everyones taste)
- No 100 euro deposit to pay
- Fast Check in (Even though check in was packed)
- arrived at the hotel in the morning were given room keys straight away no wait
- Very helpful and friendly staff
- Ski hire shop very helpful, we hired skis and boots and half way through the holiday they let us change our skis to snowboards with no extra costs.
- Good sized boot room with your own boot lockers and ski lockers.
- easy access to other resorts
- Excellent Gym

Bad points:
- Hotel had a few cracked tiles (But large hotel a lot to maintain especially when lots of people walking around with ski boots on)
- Bad design of bath room (Should get rid of the biday and make larger space for the toliet. But only there for 1 week so doesn't really matter)
- Walls were paper thin could hear everything outside of the room.
- Beauty spa was expensive (15 euros for the spa and 25 euros for Jacuzzi)
- The pool was a bit small and cold.

Overall great hotel for the money, would def visit again and recommend to others!!!!
DO NOT LISTEN TO THE BAD REVIEWS!!!!!!!

Having read the reviews on this hotel before we went we were dreading it, we need not have worried, we were on a half board basis so did not have to pay a deposit, we had maid service to our room every day and had clean linen and towels. And we had plenty of loo rolls too. The location of the hotel is excellent right across the road from the piste - I would rather be close to the slopes and have a little walk into the village anyday!!. The food was fine we always found something and if all else fails you can order a pizza. We found the staff to be helpful and friendly and the ski rental service on site was brilliant. Yes the hotel needs a bit of TLC but so do most in ski resorts at this price, the walls are very thin so you can hear your neighbours but we were so tired at night this wasn't a problem.

When you book into one of these massive apartment blocks, you should already know that you're going for no frills, bargain-basement, rather than anything remotely resembling trendy, cosy or smart. Villagio Olimpico is no different. It's not as smart or of the same build-quality as the Pierre et Vacances or Maeva properties you get in France, but it's a stack cheaper.

Although it's only a few years old (built for the Torino 2006 Olympic Winter Games), it is already showing signs of wear & tear. Broken floor tiles, scuffed woodwork, flaky paint abound. However, when you go to a place like this you're there for what's outside - the skiing, boarding, mountains, etc., not for the accommodation.

The apartment was only slightly smaller than those I've stayed in at P&V or Maeva properties. The double room was more than adequate with a good king-sized bed and plenty of wardrobe/storage space. The kitchen is, as one would expect, small but has all that you need (microwave, two hobs, sink, drainer, etc). The rest of the apartment was given over to a dining table, a large sofa and some more storage and a TV. I'd have preferred to forego the TV/storage and have another sofa instead, but if we were in the apartment we were either sitting down for breakfast/dinner or were sleeping.

The bathroom/shower was small. If you sat on the loo you'd have to have the shower door open otherwise there wasn't enough room. Swapping the bidet and toilet around could have solved this. Getting rid of the bidet altogether is an even better idea.

The shower is something special. The water doesn't drain away quickly enough, so it was easy to cause leaks in to the bathroom within a few minutes. Again, no big deal and by no means the worst washing/toilet facilities I've seen.

In terms of access to the pistes it's pretty much as close to the slopes you can get without it actually being on the piste. Simply come out through reception, cross the road, and you're on the snow. Slide a hundred metres or so downhill and you can get a chairlift to the heart of the Sestriere side of the valley, or get the high-speed, comfortable gondola to head for Sansicario, Sauze d'Doux, and so on. You'd be hard-pressed to find accommodation in this price-range (£420 for flights, transfers, accommodation, and a full area lift pass) so close to the snow in any decent European resort.

The town centre is about a ten-minute walk away. I know this because I walked it twice every day. At 7.30am my alarm would wake me, and I'd be back in the apartment for 8am with breakfast supplies. I'd also walk in to town for a drink or two (and some tapas!) in a few of the bars. As others have said, it's uphill to the town centre, but if you can't cope with that then stay off the mountains.

We didn't bother with the restaurant or the bar in the complex, nor the sports facilities. We did sniff out the swimming pool, which appears to be no bigger than the apartment we were in. Nor did we use the ski hire facilities. If you're paying €22 a day for skis & boots, you're paying well over the odds. The boot room, as others have mentioned, is awful. I just took my kit to the room every day. The boot-lockers will cope with two pairs of boots if you're smart, and the ski racks will take four pairs of skis and poles. However, they won't take three pairs of skis, poles and a snowboard, so they didn't work for us.

Points to remember before booking in to the Villagio Olympico are that it's almost like being back in student halls. There'll be people bumbling along the corridors at all hours, and it's not difficult to listen in on conversations going on in the rooms next to you.

Check-in/check-out were both very easy, handled by polite and charming staff. One of the cups was missing, but it was no trouble to sort out and a very friendly & smiley young lady brought a replacement up to us a few minutes after we reported it. We had to pay the €100 deposit in cash, which would have irritated me if I only make one trip to Europe a year. However, the returned deposit (given back on check-out) will mean that I get free beer on my next trip, so no problem there.

If I were to return to Sestriere I'd be more than happy to use the Villagio Olympico again. I'm a skier, and all I want on a ski trip is good snow, a good range of pistes, and somewhere to sleep. The place had a real buzz about is, as many of the athletes who were taking part in the IPC World Championships were staying there at the time we were.

We are a family of three. We went to stay in the Villiaggio Olimpico for a week's skiing. I came across many terrible reviews of this hotel and to be honest we were quite put off by them. Having read all the terrible commets, we were really bracing ourselves and at one point we wanted to cancel the holiday altogether. The reviews said the hotel had no room cleaning service, long queue at the check in desk, the staff were rude and even have to buy your own toilet rolls.
When we arrived, there were already about 30 people at the reception waiting to be checked in. I thought 'oh no' we'd be here forever, but no, within 20 minutes we were in our room. We were not asked to pay the 100 euros, I think that only applies to people who went for self catering. We found the checked in staff very friendly and helpful. There were a team of staff waiting by the lift taking guests to their rooms, because the rooms are all down long corridors and a bit difficult to find in the beginning.
The condition of the room was a bit dated, but we've stayed in worse in France. We spent most of the days out on the pistes and the condition of the room was the least of our concern. The room was cleaned everyday and normally when we came back from breakfast, all the beds would be made and fresh toiletries provided.
The town centre was about 10-15 minutes uphill. Consider it fitness training for the pistes.
The restaurant food was average but plentiful. There is a pizza corner in the restaurant where you can order freshly made pizza but be prepared to wait at least half hour even at the quietest time.
All in all we've no complaint about the hotel. We would definitely go back again.

We booked half board and had one of the one bedroom apartments, but with all the crockery, cutlery & microwave removed. The rooms were clean, warm & spacious. Cleaned, with fresh towels & toilet paper daily. The staff were friendly and all spoke good English. The food was delicious in the self service restaurant. Private ski lessons can be booked at the ski school desk in reception, and the ski hire shop is to the right of reception. All equipment is of a good standard (head) €22 per day for boots & skis, cheaper & better than we paid in France, and lessons were across the road, no more than a 3 minute walk, with boots on.
As some have pointed out the town is a ten minute walk up hill, but as it was a ski holiday and you need to be in mountains to ski this shouldn't really be a surprise, plus to go skiing you need a certain level of fitness, so walking up a slight incline shouldn't really be a problem. We had a fabulous time & if we were in the habit of going to the same place twice would definitely go to this hotel again.
