“Outstanding food and leisure facilities”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2014

Certainly the best ski hotel I have ever stayed in and probably one of the best hotels I've stayed in anywhere. Everything about the place was done to a high standard and the staff were all polite and efficient. The two main highlights for me were the food and the leisure facilities.

They must have chefs working 24/7 in order to prepare the quality and variety of food on offer in the extensive breakfast buffet and at dinner. Everything served to us was of a consistently excellent standard, and whilst we were mainly happy to eat from the dinner set menu, there was also an a la carte menu and healthy option menu, from which you could swap courses for no extra cost. We really came to look forward to every meal we had in the hotel restaurant.

The second highlight was the leisure facilities. After a hard day of skiing it was lovely to be able to come back and relax in the jacuzzi, swim outdoors with steam rising off the water and snow around the pool, ease the muscles in the sauna and steam room and then relax on the reclining chairs with a cup of herbal tea before dinner.

The location is good - a very short walk to the bottom of the nursery slopes where you can get on their drag lifts and have another short walk to join the main lift system, or you can make use of the hotel shuttle bus. The village centre of Selva is also only a short walk. If you are skiing, the ski room facilities include secure individual locker storage accessed by your room key card with heated boot racks so that your gear is safe and secure, and warm and ready to go the next day. Overall, really an excellent hotel that we have already booked to return to for the 2015 winter season.

Having been to the Alps for our main 2 weeks summer holiday for the last 18 years we can only say that this was the best hotel and resort that we have stayed at. The food was superb with an exceptional choice. The staff were very helpful and very friendly. The swimming pool was brilliant, it comprised of a single pool that was divided by an automatic door, half the pool was outside and heated to 32 degrees C and the other half was inside heated to 30 degrees C. The Sauna was a family Sauna and therefore very acceptable to the Brits. We stayed in a Junior Suite with panoramic views, the room and views were amazing. We booked our holiday through Thomson Lakes and Mountains.

My partner and I stayed in this hotel last year and have since traveled quite a bit around the world. Every time we have been away we compare the hotel we stay in to the Gran Baita. For a walking holiday this hotel is hard to beat. Yes it is a little pricey but we felt it was very good value in the end. The five course meals are - well I have no words - each night for our week was a gastronomic delight. Breakfast was beyond belief as well with so much choice every morning.

Rooms were clean and the spa and pool centre just wonderful at the end of a hard days hiking.

The rooms are spacious and for our walking holiday the location very central in some of the most spectacular scenery in the world. The staff of the hotel make every effort to make you feel at home and at the end of the week we found ourselves wanting to stay just that little bit longer. We went with Crystal and felt the whole holiday was very good value for money.

We intend to go back a some stage when we have explored a little more of the Dolomites.

We visited Val Gardena end of march-beginning of april , and we were very lucky with the weather.
There was enough snow , the sun was shining , the slops were perfect prepared, all lifts working,
not many tourists ,perfect skiing conditions in the morning everywhere and in the afternoon only on the slops in the shadow. For hiking , the situation was different,as the walking path was almost everywhere not taking care of ,so there were areas with high, soft snow making walking very difficult. Regarding the hotel , I only have few remarks :
-the receptionist gave us total wrong informations about Sella Ronda slops and how to get there.
-the wardrobe has mainly this cheap cloth hangers that you get for free when buying clothes, or when taking them to the cleaning !!!!?????
-the food ,was good ,especially the italian buffet evening, but every day we had shrimps on the menu. I wonder what shrimps have to do with a mountain resort (except that they are cheap).
-the desire to save costs is everywhere :the little carpets in front of the bed , the toiletry ,the cloth hangers, even though the price of the hotel is high enough !
But, all in one ,it was a good holiday ,in a beautiful area . The personal was very professional,
except the young receptionist ,but she can only get better . There was the end of a long season, I can only imagine how tired everybody was , but they did not, in any form let us see that . I understand the comfort comes with a price, but who is willing to pay the price , does not want to see the hotels saving costs measures.

Room Tip: Our room was over the entrance . During the sunny days you would hear all people discussing in front...

Probably the best ski resort hotel I've ever stayed in. Great facilities, staff, atmosphere. The food is fantastic and being able to substitute anything from the a la carte menu if the set dinner is not to your liking is quite exceptional.
Wine list is extensive and pretty good value- lots of advice on local stuff and more if needed.
Loved the indoor/outdoor pool, but the naked sauna with picture window visible from the terrace bar is a little surreal! It did give is some good conversation though.

My second visit to this charming & friendly hotel. Many of the staff remembered me from last year with Marco anticipating my choice of cocktail or beer almost the moment I set foot in the bar. Lovely clean spacious rooms. Fabulous spa & pool facilities. The food is astoundingly good and they take great care in getting everything "just so". Extensive wine list showing off local wines as well as some of Italy's best known. If I had a small complaint, I would ask the hotel to improve their wifi. The signal is only accessible in parts of the lobby and bar and often drops out completely. You cannot access wifi in the bedrooms
The village is really pretty and although the hotel is little off the main road, they run a minibus shuttle service to the lifts. The skiing is extensive and caters for most levels although I think it might be difficult for beginners to navigate.
We had a couple of issues with boots that got mistakenly swapped during transport and a back pack that one of my party left in a mountain restaurant. The hotel sorted out both of these problems (not of their making) efficiently, effectively and with a smile. Some of the staff members seemed to be there both early morning and late night and always keen to please.

Last year, we enjoyed our stay at Selva so much that we decided to come back. We didn't think twice about the hotel we were going to stay in. Gran Baita is such a great place that you are really looking forward to getting there again, perhaps as much as you want to put on your skis and do the famous Sellaronda... Everything we loved last year is intact : comfortable rooms, a cosy bar, live music almost every evening, a top notch restaurant, smiling people. The list could go on and on. Special thanks to Benjamin, the sommelier who knows his stuff, Marco the cocktail master and Dolores the nicest waitress I have ever met.
