“Ski-ing Holiday”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 9, 2013

We had a very enjoyable holiday at the Hotel Piccolo, our room was lovely and big with a balcony we not only had a double room but another room with a settee and the wardrobes, it was kept beautifully clean and comfortable. The meals at the hotel were excellent, good choices including a salad bar each night and if you wanted fresh fruit salad and cheeses. The owners were very pleasant, shame I could not converse in Italian. The owner would take us to the lifts each morning which was great as I hate walking around in ski boots. I would definitely go back to the Hotel Piccolo.

We have just returned from a wonderful week in Selva staying at the Piccolo. From the moment we arrived all the staff were so welcoming, friendly and helpful. The food was lovely and our room was very comfortable with amazing views across the mountains. We were the only English in the hotel but this made no difference as all the staff spoke excellent English. We would like to thank the owners who always made a point of checking we were okay every day and greeted us warmly. The hotel offers a mini bus to the the ski lifts every 15 mins in the morning and you can ski back to within 5 mins of the hotel using the ski trail. We have stayed in Arraba for the last few years but we would definitely like to return to this hotel and area again. We travelled with Neilson Ski holidays who were excellent and their local rep Richard knows the area so well and gave us many ideas for ski routes and great mountain restaurants. He knows his stuff!!! Thank you for a wonderful holiday.

Room Tip: We had room 303 but all rooms have a view of the mountains

just come back from selva, second stay at this hotel and again everything was brilliant. rooms spacious and clean. staff very friendly and helpful, every meal was first class. hotel has new ski locker room, courtesy bus to any ski lift in the village. you can ski back to within 75-100m.
even though hotel is not in centre of village I would still recommend this hotel very highly.

I think Val Gardena is on of the most exciting places for ski holidays. Hotel Piccolo was a fantastic hotel with very comfortable rooms, extremely friendly and helpfull staff, very tasty food and great accessibility. I recommend this hotel for a great holiay.

Booked this hotel as part of a Neilson ski package deal for the end of January 2010. The hotel is at the lower, west end of Selva (the opposite end from the ski lifts), about 200 metres off the main road up a small hill / side street. The village's supermarket is just at the bottom of that hill, so very handy.

The hotel gets nearly everything right: good comfortable and well furnished rooms; a nice bar and restaurant area; friendly and helpful staff; good food, a four or five course dinner with a limited menu choice each day plus salad buffet and a well stocked breakfast buffet. The staff all have a good range of languages, including English. The bar and drinks prices are a bit steep, but kind-of what you would expect for a 4* hotel. The wine list is good, with a big range of local 'Sud Tyrol' wines. The ski room is maybe just a little small for the size of the hotel with not quite enough space for all the skis and boots when the hotel is full. The swimming pool in the basement is fine, bigger than usual in these sorts of hotels.

If you are driving there there is an outside car park that seemed to be free of charge, and an underground garage that seemed to be charged per night. We were taken there on a coach so can't confirm that. Most of the other guests had driven there from across Europe. There is wifi and wired web access in the rooms, but it was expensive by current standards when so many places offer free wifi access.

The hotel minibus runs you up to the main ski lifts in the town each morning (but did not offer a pick-up service as there is a ski-trail through the village that leads almost back to the hotel). Also the normal ski-bus stops about 5 minutes away, near the supermarket, so can also be used to bring you back each day. Or, if sufficiently well fueled by apres-ski beer, just walk back from the lifts - it's no more than 10 or 15 minutes down the village's main street.

And the skiing in Selva and the rest of the area is fabulous.

We booked this hotel as part of a package with Neilson.

From the moment we arrived at the hotel we were greeted with warm smiles and lovely hospitality. The hotel guests were primarily Italian but the hotel staff all spoke English to a varying degree and it was never a problem.

Our room (203) was lovely; it was very spacious; exceptionally clean and beautifully maintained. We had a balcony with some chairs but we didn't venture out. The view from the room was down the valley (would have been better if there was snow but you can't have everything).

The hotel is about a 5 mins drive from the lifts but this wasn't a problem as the hotel has a little minibus that ferries you and your skis to the two main lifts and also to the nursery slopes between 9 and 11 in the morning and picks you up at the two main lifts between 3 and 5 (I think). On the one occasion that the bus was full and didn't have room for us he dropped his people off and came straight back for us which was really appreciated.

The hotel has a small swimming pool; we only ventured into it once as it was a bit cold and a good sauna and steam room. There is also a one person whirlpool bath that you have to pay for in addition. The hotel provides towels and slippers to go down to the pool area in your room and there is a convienent lift so you don't have to dash through reception to get back to your room. There is also a ski room for skis and boots with little cupboards to put your shoes in during the day.

The final thing to say about the hotel is the food. We were half-board and had expected to go out a couple of nights in the week to try out different restaurants in the area. We didn't make it out to eat once; the food was truly superb. Every night there was a four course meal and on Christmas Eve we had 7 courses and on Christmas Day 6. I am a really fussy eater and I ate every single course on every day. There were things on the menu (translated into English) that we didn't recognise or weren't particularly sure of but we trusted the hotel to do the food so well that we tried and loved everything.

Overall we would definitely recommend this hotel; the staff are lovely; the food wonderful and the rooms spacious and light.
