“Excellent service and food in a quite picturesque location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 20, 2010

We enjoyed a very nice stay at the hotel Malleier from the 4th to the 11th of September in a party of around 22 people on a walking holiday.
The hotel staff, under the strong leadership of Thomas, were hard to fault, being efficient, polite, hardworking and approachable. Several of the party wanted to change their allocated rooms on arrival; this was carried out courteously and promptly.
The kitchen staff consistently produced excellent, tasty and good looking food, which is not easy for that number or guests arriving at the same time, although we did pre-ordered our meals the night before to streamline things. Vegetarians were catered for too.
The hotel selection of local wines was well tested and found to be enjoyable and sensibly priced, although we thought that the bottled water was over-priced at 3 Euros each. Strangely, the hotel seems not to be able to get its water hot enough for a really good cup of tea, but that was a minor annoyance and perhaps due in part to the altitude.
The hotel has broadly two classes of room, the standard room which is as one might expect for a 3 star hotel, and comfort rooms which are more what one might expect of a 4 star hotel. Our comfort room was very pleasant and had a balcony facing up the valley, which sadly was in shade when we returned from our walks. I suspect that a balcony facing up the valley may be better in the hot months to get some shade, while one facing down the valley may be better in the cooler months to get more sun.
I enjoyed the hotel spar facilities which are better than one might expect for this class of hotel.
The hotel is 5 minutes walk from a very good mini-market where many of us went in the morning to have sandwiches prepared for lunch. We did not test the hotel’s packed lunch service.
Our wedding anniversary coincided with our holiday, so the hotel very kindly sent up a free bottle of champagne on ice.
The fact that none of our reasonably well-heeled party had any significant complaints that I heard of is something of an achievement that they should be proud of.
One can expect a very pleasant stay at the hotel Malleier.

The outstanding feature of this hotel is the really excellent food. A gourmet 5 course meal every evening served up but pleasant and efficient staff. This is a well run hotel. Thomas and his staff bend over backwards to be helpful. The rooms are fairly simple but perfectly adequate with large comfortable beds. Everything is well maintained and spotlessly clean. The hotel is set a few hundred metres uphil from the town centre with good views over meadows and to the mountains. There's a nearby supermarket to get rolls etc for lunch although the hotel will provide packed lunches. An excellent base for the Dolomites. We travelled with HF who run walking holidays from this hotel. Tip: Not all rooms have balconies so request one when booking and some of the single rooms on the top flooe are apparently quite small.

Stayed here as part of an HF Holidays walking group. The HF brochure promised good food, and we were not disappointed. The 5 course dinners, usually with a choice of three mains, were excellent and served by charming staff.

The rooms were a good size and comfortable, some had balconies (unfortunately, we didn't have the weather to make use of one). Everything was spotless.

Many thanks to Thomas and his team.

5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 30, 2009

Stayed here with a walking tour (organised package with HF Holidays) and even though it was the last week of their summer season, the staff were very very pleasant and attentive. Rooms perfectly comfortable, good sized bathroom, plenty of hot water and food of a quality far beyond that which you would expect from a 3* rated hotel. The chefs are obviously proud of their kitchen, and rightly so. The hotel wasn't that busy during our stay, but you get the feeling that the level of service would be the same busy or not. No hesitation in recommending this hotel based on my experience there Sept 12th 09.
