“Scooters and cockerels”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 12, 2013

A large 5 star hotel 2km from Sorrento and 800m up a hill from the centre of San d'Agnello.
Rooms are large and clean but there was no coffee /tea making facility. Sea view - with a telescope- rooms are the best and ours overlooked a dilapidated farm -which is presumably where the cockerel that woke us at 5 every morning lived.
Staff are friendly and helpful . Our bar bill was much less than we deserved and the business centre allowed me to order a marquee from Amazon with no problems.and a modest fee.
Breakfasts are good and plentiful with the usual stuff plus omelettes etc to order. Bacon as with all european hotels is best avoided.
You can walk down the hill to San d'Agnello but there is only really a busy road with death -defying scooterists and a couple of bars - although there is a good restaurant.
Getting to and from Sorrento is easy on the Shuttle bus. Everything closes from 1 to 5 pm so unless on a trip it's best to return to the hotel and veg for a few hours beside the pool.
We enjoyed the Tarantella evening with buffet /barbecue the Hotel put on but socially the hotel was pretty dead and the bars were almost empty even on the Jazz nights- perhaps they were forewarned - we did think there was a new song about a burned -out Dentist until we realised 'Fillings' were the sensation.
There is a hotel rep who will arrange trips but there are lots of outlets in Sorrento and the ones we booked were all well organised and very enjoyable.
Would happily stay here again but would ideally go for one of the hotels built on Sorrento's cliffs (and arrive by speed boat as some cool Italians did- but suspect there is a premium to pay for this!).

Best For ;- Cockerel loving Garboesque insomniacs.

We had expected to be nearer to Sorrento ie, walking distance, however this is just a bit too far for this. It is a suburb out of Sorrento.

However, on the bright side, the welcome at Reception was second to none. We were looked after and upgraded to a lovely suite that looked over the complex and across to Sorrento and the Bay of Naples. The rooms were generous in size and kept clean each day although the attention to the sheets left a bit to be desired.

Breakfast was included in our cost but make sure you inquire about the restaurant at night - we were told it wasn't open and headed out each night until we discovered on the last night it was open. Food is tasty and the wine good.

A shuttle bus takes guests to the bus terminal and back again during the day and night. If you want to visit other towns nearby, be warned that tours don't go every day so consider hiring a car/taxi driver We spent €140 for the day to visit Positano and is same if you have 4 people sharing it. The hotel arranged this for us quickly.

There is a great spa/beauty salon on site and a hairdresser also on set days.

Ask for a room with a view otherwise you will be opening your curtains to a less than interesting view. For 5 stars, we would have expected at least free water, tea and coffee making facilities. It is a bit tired in the upkeep, especially the pool deck but all up we enjoyed our stay and met some fun English tourists.

Room Tip: if you book a standard twin the chances are you will be at the back of the hotel with a view of unat...

We stayed there as part of a tour group and enjoyed our stay. Opulent style and old school charm, but very well kept and clean. Good breakfast, nice pool and friendly staff, but quite far out of Sorrento town. There is a shuttle bus available.

This hotel was remarkable! The rooms are beautiful, clean and spacious. The staff is friendly and accommodating. The breakfast buffet was simply amazing! I couldn't believe that it was complimentary. My teenagers and I absolutely enjoyed our stay. I highly recommend this hotel for its authentic charm, cleanliness, service, location and overall value.

Having never been to Italy before we took a chance with our choice of Hotel and Location. As soon as we arrived we knew we'd made all the right choices. The walk from Sant'Agnello Station to the hotel was about 10 minutes but that first day it felt long, hard and tiring as it was the hottest part of the day and we were lugging our suitcases with us. Also it's uphill all the way which made it worse. Every other time we did that walk it was very pleasant. The staff were all great, especially the restaurant management and waiters. The young girl who cooks the pancakes in the morning really impressed me. Sometimes she'd have a long queue but she never looked flustered and dealt with all her orders so professionally. The Champagne available at breakfast was a little unusual but it was there, so of course we had to have a Champagne breakfast a couple of times. Our room was great, overlooking the pool, with sea views and the amazing volcano Mount Vesuvius. Pool was smaller than it looked in the photos but it didn't matter as it's such a lovely area to relax and sunbathe. Drinks and snacks etc had to be signed for and the bill settled at checkout, didn't really like this as we prefer to pay as we go along but it wasn't a big deal. Excellent shuttle service to Sorrento but you can walk it in 30 mins if you wanted to. We were in Sorrento til the early hours one night so missed last shuttle and too tired to walk back, cab cost 23euros. We were half board and enjoyed the food and the bbq on Folk night. This hotel is rated a 5 star but I would say that parts of it are definitely only 4 star, but overall had a really fab time here and would definitely go back.

Lovely hotel, made to feel welcome straight away. Staff are very friendly especially the reception staff who showed lots of genuine pleasure in making our children feel special. They especially enjoyed getting a few sweets each time they went to see the staff. ( the staff also checked each time with us to see if they were allowed the sweets) children aged 5 and 3.
We used the transfer service that the hotel offered which was well worth using and was very good from Naples airport.
Drinks are pricey.
Pool area was nice although my 3 year old fell into a hole in the decking which was then covered over with a little plastic table. It caused her leg to bleed as it was made of wood and there were sharp edges around the hole. It didn't seem of particular concern to the staff that were on duty around the pool.
We were at the back of the hotel in a family suite which was nice and also had nice views of mountains at the back, be prepared for the roosters "cock a doodle doo" in the mornings though!
Shuttle service was very good. One night it was late by one hour although this was due to a road block because of an accident.
I missed having a kettle in the room ( this seems to be the norm in Italy)
Breakfast good.
Sorrento itself is very good. Would recommend la Laterna restaurant for a nice Meal and also for a great 'fast food' pizza place near the train station try Johnny b,(plastic forks and cups but cheap and a great pizza)

Room Tip: Lots of good reviews about the pool views but the back rooms also had a good view.

We stayed in this hotel for a week. The hotel itself is wonderful. some may think the decor of it is very outdated, but I was impressed by the opulence of the hotel such as the Greek statues etc.. There is a lovely pool surrounded by sunloungers and a solarium, perfect for cooling down in the blistering heat. bedrooms were lovely, just request a room with a pool view when you're booking. theres also a jacuzzi and steamroom! You could see the Latery Mtn range and mt Vesuvio from the hotel which was beautiful. location wise, you're not in the heart of Sorrento but there is a shuttle bus that runs about 4 times a day.. only problem is it doesn't run when the italians are having a siesta! that was the only downside of the hotel, having to organise your trips around the shuttlebus times. also some of the poolside staff members were a bit condescending. Overall, loved this hotel and will definitely be returning.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front of the hotel overlook the pool and the latery mountain range, mount vesuvio volca...
