“Loved the location, and hotels public rooms very elegant”

Grand Hotel Capodimonte

This is a very attractive Hotel, very unusual in its layout, as it
is set in a cliff side.
My daughter and I had a room with partial sea view, which had huge plants just outside the terrace which obscured the beautiful
view of sorrento, when I asked at reception if there was any chance of a better room they just laughed at me, and muttered between themselves that we were English!
The beds were extremely uncomfortable with very hard pillows.
It was cleaned well with fresh linen everyday.
The restaurant service was very slow, and staff were not interested in guests, and very glum, and seemed to argue amongst themsleves a lot.
The bar prices were very expensive, and this is not a value for
money Hotel.
On the last day when I went to pay my bill at reception they were
having trouble with certain credit cards which were not going through mine included and they made me feel I was the only
one and as if there was something wrong with my card.
I went to town to get cash from it, and had no problem at all.

We stayed at the hotel at the end of April early May and I have to say that as a value for money hotel this is not it. We queued every day for a table for both breakfast and dinner which for a hotel of this class we considered really poor. The waiting staff seem to have worked out some wierd and time consuming system of service that means getting a meal is almost a trial. In fact, although we had booked breakfast and dinner for the whole of our six day stay by the 4th day we couldn't bear the dinner saga any more and went into the town to eat. The standard of food served in the hotel is poor and the menu choices really quite limited. If you really like Italian food this is not the place to stay. However on the plus side the hotel is stunning, the Chambermaids do a great job and the rooms are really comfortable. Take care that you dont book the 5th floor rooms at the back as these look out on a mass of concrete and you never see the sun. We had to change our room as one of these was offered to us when we checked in.

“Fabulous Wedding Day & Honeymoon”

We have just returned from our wedding/honeymoon in Sorrento, we stayed at the Capodimonte and had our wedding reception there too, it was fantastic! We were treated like royalty on our special day, the food and drink was out of this world. The hotel is without a doubt top quality and the service is very good. The service in the restaurant is slower than you would expect back in the UK but your on holiday and your in Italy, everyone is laid back!
Regarding our reception we dealt with Giuseppe prior to going out to Italy and he was really helpful and really could'nt do enough for us. During the day we had a host for the day, Luigi, he was just fantastic and nothing was too much trouble, the waiters were brilliant too!! I can't rave enough about this hotel it was more than anything we could have dreamed of, eating our wedding lunch outside looking over the bay of Sorrento....heaven!! Our room was brilliant too, fantastic views.
I know some people say don't book through the big tour operators as they don't come up with the goods, well we disagree, we booked through Thomas Cook and the wedding co-ordinator Sorin was brilliant. We asked him for some very different things for our special day and he delivered on everything he was fantastic too! If your thinking of getting married in Sorrento you really won't regret it and you must stay at The Capodimonte it's fab!! We're going back next year for our anniversary.

“Had Lovely Time”

My husband and I, just got back from a week in Sorrento. We found this hotel very clean. All staff were friendly and helpful. On first arrival it is a bit of a maze but it is really well laid out. We found the choice of food good with no repetition throughout the week. Service was a bit slow but with a bottle of wine in front of us we made eating there part of our evening and enjoyed not being rushed.

Our room 305 had a great view over sorrento town and the sea. it was just around the corner to the town but it did take around 15 mins to the main piazza tasso, and a further 5 mins to the train station.

We visited both Capri and Pompeii on public transport rather than with really expensive excursions. Around half the price.

“Great Hol!!”

We stayed at the Hotel Capodimonte and after reading some of the reviews were a bit apprehensive to say the least, as although only staying for a week it was not a cheap holiday. Much to our relief we did not need to worry at all and had a great stay during our time there. Our flight was delayed which meant that we did not actually arrive at the hotel until about 10:30pm on the first night and the staff in the restaurant had stayed to make sure that we were able to have dinner. The quality of the food on that first evening was not good but this was not the standard that we had for the rest of the week. Any time we ate there the food although not the finest cuisine was of a good standard. We had upgraded our room and this is maybe why we had a really nice room, but did not hear any of the other guests complaining about theirs either. Our room was at the front of the hotel where there are the best views and yes we were above the road but I can honestly say this did not bother us at all even the couple of mornings that we had a lie in. The staff were very friendly and helpful, we had a problem with our toilet and I broke the door key in the lock and both times these were fixed within half an hour. This is a typical Italian hotel and if you want plush carpets and a modern surrounding this is not the place for you. We had a great holiday and will be recommending this hotel to friends who are going to Sorrento later in the year.
We are usually independant travellers and this was the first package holiday that we had booked for a number of years. We booked through First Choice and one thing we did find beneficial was the tour of the town that they do on the first morning. There is a bit of selling involved but not too in your face and was good to get your bearings if like us you have never been to Sorrento before. We did book one excursion to Pompeii and Vesuvius and were glad that we did this as it might have been difficult to do this without a car, and also the guide that we had was very good. Everything else we did on our own using public transport and saved quite a bit by doing so.
