“our third visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 26, 2014

This was our third visit in three years and our stay was as good as ever. The real joy of this hotel is the staff. Receptionists, restaurant and bar staff and chamber maids are all brilliant - friendly, helpful and accommodating. I have an allergy to egg, and once told about it, the head waiter - Pino - checks each meal to ensure it's ok for me to eat, and if it isn't suggests an alternative - even it means them making something which isn't on the menu.
The hotel itself is well equipped and clean. It's a nice distance out of Sorrento itself, meaning you can escape the hussle and bussle. It's a 20min walk to town but the free shuttle bus is great if you don't fancy the walk. The hotel is only 10 min walk to the railway station, which is on the line from Sorrento and Naples. This is brilliant for getting to the likes of Pompeii (25 mins), Vesuvius and Herculenium (35 mins).
I am very fussy about where I stay - I don't like to be disturbed by other people's noise or rowdy behaviour - and the fact I have stayed here three times indicates the nature of folks that stay here. That said, we always holiday before uk schools break up.
We stayed on half-board basis. Breakfast offers a fair range of choices, and dinner usually offers 4-5 choices for each course. The quality of dinner does vary but on the whole is good value.
I wondered whether staying for a third time would be a mistake and thought it would be our last time for a while but within half an hour of getting back to the UK, we decided we would go again next year!
In short, if you like a quiet, convenient hotel, this is for you but if you want activities, music and nightlife, you should consider one of the bigger hotels in Sorrento itself.

Room Tip: We had a superior comfort room. This is spacious, has a balcony and a bath as well as a shower (over...

Just back from 8 day Holiday in this Hotel, lovely breakfast, pool, staff so friendly and helpful, all faultless. Booked flights separately but so easy to come out of Naples Airport and get direct coach to Sorrento 10 euros, frequent service. Would recommend this Hotel and would love to return to. Courtesy bus excellent perk to get in and out of the town.

Excellent week in July 2014 at Hotel Caravel. Third visit to Sorrento, first time at this Hotel. Wanted to be a little further out from the centre of Sorrento this hotel in St. Agnello gave us a new area to explore. The hotel itself is very relaxed, well looked after on arrival at reception, great welcome. Room was perfect on the ground floor overlooking the pool, good sized balcony. Lots of sun in the afternoon after a day exploring. Breakfast is a huge buffet, hot and cold, something for everyone and the pastries are delicious. Used the lunch time snack bar twice, both excellent meals well priced. Dinner in the restaurant provided salad buffet to begin followed by a choice of three different starters, four mains, and three desserts each evening. Good variety and well prepared and presented. Congratulations to our waitress Anna who was always smiling and helpful when we asked stupid questions. Raffael entertained us each day with his charming personality. These and all staff work long hours and should be congratulated for their dedication and excellent customer service. The bar provided us with a wide range of drinks and tea and hot chocolate before bed. Pool was bigger than we expected and plenty of sun beds at all times - there are also sun beds on roof terraces on the fourth and fifth floor.
Regular hotel shuttle bus took us to Sorrento Town Centre and back - very popular worth making a reservation. Walked to St.Agnello Square in ten minutes, supermarket next left provided all the extras we wanted - bottled water, crisps, fruit etc. Booked a trip to the island of Ischia from Sorrento - 75 minute ferry ride, bus tour around the island, lunch in a local restaurant, visit to the Mortello Gardens, then a ferry ride home - 80 Euros each. Not sure this was value for money, three hours in the gardens too long, could have done it in 90 minutes. All in all a great week.

We have just returned from a holiday in Sorrento staying at Hotel Caravel, booked as part of a package through Thomas Cook. What a fantastic hotel! Spotlessly clean, with good sized rooms and air conditioning. We didn't have a balcony room but the view from our room was stunning nevertheless. The hotel is in an ideal location. Situated in St Agnello, it is a fifteen minute walk to the town centre, or you can make use of the regular courtesy bus to and from town. We never used the bus, preferring to walk. It thus provides the best of both worlds: easy access to the lively town centre, but a bit quieter too. The hotel has lovely grounds - a pool area and separate seating area where you can relax on comfy chairs and couches. Food is great. We were half board and really impressed by the quality of the food, and the choice. For breakfast there was a good mix - cooked breakfast; fruit; croissants; continental style. For evening meals there were at least 3 choices for each course - there was never an evening when the food was not delicious. However, the most outstanding feature for us was the staff. Each and every person was friendly, approachable, helpful and efficient. Genuinely lovely people who made the stay really enjoyable, Would we go back? Without a shadow of a doubt! It's top of our list for next year.

I would return to this hotel over and over, my wife has food allergies and they could not do enough to help make our stay perfect. All staff members are very courteous and helpful even down to being local tour guides when you need advice on places to visit. The free shuttle bus into Sorrento is a great asset to visitors, although it can be walked in 20 mins and is a flat even route, no 1 in 4 hills to climb!.
I agree that the rooms could benefit from updating but they are spotless and the hotel represents great quality and value for money.

Room Tip: west facing 2nd 3rd or 4th floors with small balcony with views of pool and bay of Naples and Vesuvi...

Just come back from a fabulous stay at this hotel. The hotel is spotless. We booked a twin room that slept 3 adults. This was a good size, had air conditioning and we had a nice private balcony. Our room was 125. From the balcony you could see the swimming pool and also the orange trees. We had free wifi included and this always worked well which pleased our son.

The staff at this hotel are excellent. They are always happy to give you advice and they are all so friendly. We had half board and we found the meals very good. Breakfast was very good too, plenty of choices. Evening meal there was always about 4 choices for each course, starter main meal and dessert. All very good portions and very tasty. Again the restaurant staff are lovely,so helpful and always smiling.

The views from the roof terraces should not be missed. It was nice to have the option of the free hotel shuttle bus into Sorrento. We used it when we went into Sorrento at night but during the day we walked in. Took a leisurely 20-30 minutes, stopping for picture opportunities overlooking the Bay of Naples.

We all loved this hotel and would definitely go back again.

Room Tip: The room was large enough for myself husband and son. If you wanted a larger room I assume you would...

We stayed for one week early last September as part of a package deal which included a late night transfer from Naples airport. The room was a little dated and on the small side but clean and comfortable with peaceful nights sleep.

We had the half board option which was reasonably
priced. The meals were different each night and served by uniformed waiters but the quality of food could have been better. The best were the pasta dishes. The breakfast was not that interesting, once again lacking in quality and also selection. There was no fresh fruit. The seating arrangement was such that on the first day, guests are allocated a table for the whole stay which they shared with another couple who arrived on the same day. This may suit some people but if you wanted privacy or did not want to converse with same couple (or anyone) at fourteen meals during the week then this could lessen your satisfaction with the hotel.

All the staff were helpful and friendly, especially in the restaurant. The hotel is located away form the hustle and bustle of Sorrento which can be reached by foot in 20 minutes or so or the hotel has a good shuttle bus service throughout. The sea is just down the road and the concrete/timber lido can be reached via lift or stairs where you can pay for a sun bed/shade on the jetty. There is a very small pebble there. If you want a proper beach (pebble) then you can catch a bus travelling north via Meta where there are three lidos to choose from.

The swimming pool was welcome after a days sightseeing and there were enough sunbeds available There was entertainment some nights but it was the same guy playing the keyboards who helped to clear the bar area by missing or playing the wrong notes during his performance. If you want some live music then walk to the left or right from the hotel entrance and there is usually a hotel that has something going and is open to non residents.

Overall, although we were out nearly every day sightseeing, we did have a pleasant and relaxing stay.
