Our week at the Caravel in September for my wife and I was perfect. The hotel is in a quiet residential area (far enough away from the very busy main roads) but is close enough to Sorrento centre for evening shopping and eating forays. We had a car (driving is fun provided that there is some distant Italian blood in your veins) and the Caravel is a good base for visiting towns and villages around the Bay of Naples as well as the obligatory historical sites. Parking on the streets in Sant'Agnello is difficult to find and I would recommend using the hotel car park (10 euros per day).
The room was clean and serviced daily - we had a sea view balcony on the 4th floor which was ideal. Breakfast was OK and I understand from guests who ate lunch and dinner at the hotel that the restaurant was very nice for more formal eating. There are loads of restaurants in Sorrento and a few that are worth a visit within short walking distance.
Carlos and his happy helpful staff looked after us well and I would recommend the hotel to all.

We recently stayed for one week at the Caravel Hotel Sorrento. Before booking the holiday we read all the reviews which were very complimentary and indeed this was totally accurate. We certainly would have no hesitation in recommending this Hotel to our family and friends, and we will be returning in 2014.

I began my search by looking for a hotel with for proximity to the train station and the hydrofoil marina, as Sorrento was to be our base camp for 8 days. I was also looking for a hotel that offered half board, as after touring all day one has little energy left for finding and traveling to a restaurant. I chose this particular hotel due to the great reviews on TA for its food and ambience. It did not disapppoint. Friendly and helpful front desk staff, spacious rooms, nice sized bathroom, nice towels and amenities, firm bed, great water pressure, ample hot water, nice AC, outdoor cocktail lounge, piano bar on selected nights, great breakfast and wonderful dinners with four choices for first, second and dessert courses. Nice wine list at reasonable prices. A free shuttle to town, with a light hearted driver with a penchant for Italian-American music on the stereo, was an added bonus. Two complaints - on checking in Ken and Deb were given a room that reeked of smoke, despite our clear request for non-smoking due to medical reasons. The front desk did respond immediately to the problem, and gave Ken and Deb one of the best rooms in the hotel. They were happy, so I was too, as this faux pas could have cost them two stars in their review. Second complaint - at dinner the wait staff fauned over the tour group tables which were adjacent to ours, and at times did not provide us with enough attention. But heck, we were in no hurry for the most part, and the overall experience helped to make up for this deficiency as well. My rating is 4 stars because 3.5 is not an option, and a 3 star "average" is not appropriate for this hotel. More attentiveness, both on pre-check in and in the dining room, would make this a solid "very good". As it is, my overall rating is "good".

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the 4th floor facing north or west. Nice views of either Vesuvius or the Bay of N...

This hotel deserves its positive reviews. The pool is clean and well kept with lots of sun loungers pool towels can be purchased for the day for around two euros (you can of course use your own beach towels as we did).our room was spotlessly clean and a nice size considering there were two adults and a child, with a huge balcony, the view of Vesuvius was a bonus. The dining room was bright and airy.the food was tasty and plentiful with a choice of four starters, main courses and desserts for dinner.Breakfast was a mix of continental cold meats, cheeses, or bacon, sausage, toast, boiled eggs fruit and yogurt with a selection of cereals, coffee, hot chocolate and fruit juice are plentiful. This hotels staff are what makes it stand out from the crowd they are a real asset to the business.
Sorrento is a fifteen minute walk from the hotel we used the free shuttle bus to take us into Sorrento to help us get our bearings and then walked back.Sant'Agnello has a good range of shops, restaurants and bars. There is a public sandy beach at Meta a couple of stops from Sant'Agnello station otherwise there is one public beach platform at Sorrento or a couple of private ones that are eleven euros a day.
I would use this hotel again.

This is a well run hotel with a nice, small pool, patio area and large, comfortable rooms. We had a lovely time here. The food is great - plenty of choice at breakfast and also at dinner (vegetarian, fish or two meat dishes) - you won't go hungry. The waiters provided good service throughout. There was also an excellent salad bar at dinner, The drinks from the bar and with dinner are not particularly cheap, so you can soon rack up a fair bill.

The hotel is a 20 minute walk from Sorrento. You can use the free shuttle - but you have to plan to the fixed times it runs. There is also a Circumvesuviana station at Sant' Agnello, so you don't always have to go to Sorrento.

The hotel is a few hundred metres from the cliff edge and you do get a lovely view over the bay from here (or from the hotel roof).

The hotel communal areas are not that large, but we didn't struggle to get a place by the pool. In fact, it can be quite quiet in the day as there is so much to do in the area,

but our experience DID NOT compare to the few latest reviews. This is not a four star hotel by any stretch of the imagination. We specifically requested a balcony room (which we paid extra for) based on the reviews from other guests but our room was so small one of us had to sit on the bed for the other to pass to the door to the balcony - which was precariously perched on the side of the building and made it worriesome to sit out. AND, we had the yapping dog on our side of the building. The 'dresser' was tucked in the bottom of the armoire but the drawers were less than 3" deep; there were only four and the dresser was not attached so every time we went to open a very sticky drawer the whole thing came out of the armoire. If you like a face cloth bring your own; if you use conditioner for your hair bring your own; if are used to a pillow with a bit of fluff bring your own.
The air conditioning was slow to work and the maids turned it off during the day so the room was hot and stuffy most of the night.
The servers are very self-serving. We could not get sliced bread in the evening as it was only served in the morning; the morning waiter reprimanded us for taking a fork from a table set up next to us as he didn't set our table with cutlery. He had set the table for the evening meal and didn't want to go get more cutlery. We ate breakfast at the hotel a few times - both breakfast and dinner were included - and we could only stomach one dinner. Breakfast was a fairly typical offering; nothing special but canned fruit? In Italy in the middle of the agricultural area? Dinner was boring and not well cooked. The best part of the evening meal was the salad bar.
The front desk staff was very helpful, friendly, good English and fun to chat with. They were never too busy to stop what they were doing to help.
The barman was excellent.
The housekeeping staff good and friendly.
The room was kept clean however we had to request a change of sheets after day three.
Not sure how this hotel gets four stars - it is not.

Room Tip: We were in 404 and it was very hot and noisy as it faced the street. It appears that rooms 417, 418...
