“Excellent staff 4 star +”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2011

Arrived for a family wedding and was impressed by the service received at the Caravel the staff were the most helpful and cheery people, we had three comfort rooms 101 small but with a balcony over the main reception not a problem with noise and good for people watching. 110 & 111 were inside rooms much more space but no view and no balcony all were well presented and Anna Marie was the cheeriest chamber maid who made us smile every day, the pool was very welcome as temperatures reached 44 degrees, and the various shaded seating areas were great to chill with a beer, Breakfast was very good enough variety for everyone but the most blinkered minds, we were on B&B basis so did not get to try the main restaurant as we were meeting family most times in Sorrento, the walk into Sorrento is not for the nervous, but great if you love the hustle and busell the scooters are to be seen to be believed, the shuttle works well and they will often go round again if they are full first trip and the driver found nothing too much trouble. Great position for links and not the expense of central hotels (except drinks) deserves the number one spot.

This is a great hotel for Couples on their own or with babies. There was a good size games room in the basement with a pool table and a few board games. The video games machine was broken. There were two PC's in reception and free WIFI use for guests. (Take your own tablet or netbook as the two hotel machines had XP with old embedded Internet Explorer)Those are minor faults, this is a great hotel. We were a late middle age couple travelling together on an early summer two week holiday. The pool was an adequate size for 4-5 users and was spotlessly clean with crystal clear water approx 23x 6M. There were sunbeds and Parasols available. We mainly used the pool in the morning or late evening. The Hotel is on a fairly quiet side steet about 200 m from the front/clifftop. The food was really good with a good selection. All of the hotel staff were great and could not do enough for you. There are only 8 rooms without balconies-we had one of these. Try to get a balcony to the rear as it is quieter. There are free safety deposit boxes in the rooms and no rip offs. There is complementary shuttle bus which goes most of the way to Sorrento (past the danger spots on the road.) We only used this on the night we went to the theatre as we like to walk on holiday. This was a great holiday. We would go back to this hotel if we returned to Sorrento as most of the other local hotels are on busy roads and do not have a pool. The staff were also fantastic. We were on half board, the choice of food was excellent and there was a good wine list.
If you are booking a show or trip, do it via hotel reception as you get preferential treatment and seats locally. We booked "Sorrento the Musical" and were given seats near the front. It was a fabulous show.
The Hotel itself had a Piano Bar twice a week and both pianists played different repetoires-one mainly Jazz the other classical.
We visited Pompeii and Herlculaenium using the Trans Vesuvio railway. The station was a 3/4 mile walk along quiet streets and lanes-watch out for scooters. Both are great trips and this hotel is a good base.
There is a local bus stop at the corner, the bus goes to Marina Piccolo where you can book boat trips to Capri (too crowded- only go low season),Amalfi or Naples.
The Hotel is about 1 mile from Sorrento -parts of both roads in have no pavement for short distances. There is free a shuttle bus which takes you most of the way but we only used it once.
We cannot praise this hotel or its staff highly enough as their friendliness really added to the fabulous holiday which we had.

Just returned from this hotel
Staff where very helpful
Food was excellent, they made a special effort for my husband who has to follow a gluten free diet
The food was so good we ate there everyday
The Matre d and the waiter Raffell could not help enough
We booked this hotel as an adult only hotel but found very small children there who were very noisy
Easy to use trains and local buses
The hotel and staff are very good would have scored excellent had there been no children

We stayed here for a week in June 2011. We wanted a peaceful hotel in a beautiful area close to all the main sites and this is exactly what we found at the Caravel.
We have travelled to many places over the years and have to say all the staff were by far the best we have ever encountered. The front desk were extremely helpful, especially in providing information on the local area and places to visit. No task was too big or too small.
A courtesy shuttle bus was available regularly from the hotel into Sorrento, otherwise a 20 min walk. The local train station is a few mins walk from the hotel which provides easy access to Pompeii and Herculaneum for approx. €8 per couple return.
Most nights we ate at the hotel as the food was good and the service excellent. The pool was clean and there were always plenty of sunbeds available. There were also two bathing platforms on the 4th and 5th floor overlooking Mount Vesuvius. These were always available to use as well. The room we had was perfect for our needs, extremely clean and a beautiful view of Mount Vesuvius.

If you want a quiet hotel away from the hustle and bustle of Sorrento then we would recommend the Caravel.

We travelled as a party of twelve including three children aged two and five. we had booked four triple rooms but on arrival only two triple rooms were allocated. We had to wait until hotel sorted this out and even then I was allocated double room with single bed squeezed in and furniture stacked up to make room for bed. The food was terrible and no childrens menu - we ate out most evenings - lots of good resteraunts nearby.
Staff were very friendly and pleasant and also helpful. Spoke good english and provided lots of info on locale and trips. One towel per person in rooms and pool is very small. Lots of sunbeds available - pool towels 2 euro.
Local area is lovely and twenty minute walk to sorrento - hotel shuttle bus hourly unti 8 pm. Local buses from church at top of road.

This Hotel wa exactly what we were looking for.... very nice accomodation with a beatiful view, close to Sorrento, about a 25 minute walk, but not in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the main tourist area.

We had a great stay at this hotel. There are many facilities for guests, such as a nice restaurant, swimming pool, sun terrace, game room and more. The room was very nice, and so was the pool, lobby and restauraunt areas. Nice, clean and cosy. The best of all was the very kind and helpful staff. Always helpful, service minded and with a smile on their lips. The hotel also had a great shuttle service to and from Sorrento which means that it doesn't matter that you choose this hotel which isn't in the middle of Sorrento. It seems that they have thought of everything! We had a great stay here and we can highly recommend it to others!

Room Tip: I can recommend a view towards the mountains.
