Let me start by saying that we enjoyed our lunch in this restaurant so much that we returned for dinnner a few days later--and were not disappointed.
Ristorante Fiorentino is Old Tuscan--the restaurant has been in the area for a very long time, and the owners take great care in preserving a dining experience that is distinctly old-fashioned. Wonderful service, incredibly good food and a house wine that is so terrific that one need not venture into the wine list if you're not interested in doing so.
While we were very comfortable in ordering off the menu, having been in the area for a while before we ate here, we listened with rapt attention as the owner guided a table full of English tourists through the menu, the ingredients, the portions and the process of ordering. They sat down not knowing what it was that they wanted, but wound up with a fabulous meal, all of it portionalized to their particular needs and interests.
This is one of the things that make a traditional restaurant like this so special--the care the owners take in making sure that the customer gets a true experience of the strengths of the house.
Not to be missed: any of the truffle dishes, when in season (and there are actually three truffle seasons, we learned). The bufala mozzarella--this is the REAL thing, creamy on the insude, spectacular flavor, and served with the freshest tomatoes and avocado. Add a bit of the fabulous olive oil and you're on your way to taste heaven. And of course, the desserts, all prepared in house. Unbelievable.
