“Great Grill restaurant with a beautiful view”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2013

This place has a beautiful view of the ocean and the rest of Bussana Vecchia alike. A lovely outdoors BBQ with a grill menu to match. Def worth a visit if you are not travelling on a budget.

“Wonderful food for the money”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2013

We sat on wooden benches on the pavement across the road from the restaurant. Great views over the valley, down to the coast and up to the mountains, and hardly any traffic because it's almost at the end of the road into Bussana Vecchia. Once the restaurant barbecue was going we were ready to eat. A pair of large, very well grilled main courses (my steak was wonderful), wine, water, coffees and change from €30. Excellent service too.

“La Casaccia - in the spirit of Bussana Vecchia”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2012

I first stopped for lunch at La Casaccia on a day when I was travelling alone. Some restaurants treat you as a bit of a nuisance when you are alone and in some cases I have even been turned away, but here I was made to feel at home as soon as I sat down. On a sunny day you can eat out of doors and enjoy the wonderful views all the way down to the Sanremo coast. I just had a light lunch (bruschetta) was it was perfect.
Recently we went back as a family of four and opted for one of the tables inside as it was a rainy day. La Casaccia is housed in a charming old building, formerly a stable block, that withstood the catastrophic earthquake of 1887 that destroyed most of the other buildings in Bussana Vecchia. The owners have furnished it with a mixture of antique tables and rickety chairs and this adds to the charm. On the menu you will find a good selection of simple dishes. I opted for tometta (round cheese) with vegetables on the grill and it was an excellent choice. Those with a heartier appetite than mine ordered polenta con salsiccia. The dessert was homemade tiramisu. We all ordered different dishes but we all enjoyed both the food and the atmosphere. The service was friendly yet unobtrusive. It's an informal place to eat, very good value, and I hope to go again. Only a word of warning: the road from Via Aurelia (coming from the town of Arma di Taggia, take the motorway exit for Arma di Taggia and then drive all the way down to the Via Aurelia and follow the coast in the direction of Sanremo) up to the earthquake village of Bussana Vecchia has not been improved since the earthquake of 1887. As a result there are a number of hairpin bends that in a big car you can only get round with a three-point turn. This means you have to drive around the bends with extreme caution. When you finally get up to the village you will see a number of cars with smashed-in radiators, presumably due to the very tricky nature of the road, which unfortunately is the only one you can take. The tour of the village is a fascinating experience and the artists' studios are like something out of a movie set. But be sure to leave time for lunch at La Casaccia for some genuine homemade Italian food that is very reasonably priced. We plan to go there again when the sun is shining. You will find the building on the right-hand side as you walk into the village after parking your car or bike (it's quite a steep climb if you come up from Sanremo by bike) along the main road. Closed on Mondays and Tuesdays, open for lunch on the other days, open in the evening in the summer. Tel 0184.516.185

“wonderful and intimate reataurant in Old Bussana Village”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 28, 2011

Leaving the Aurelia State street direction Bussana Vecchia (Old), you will have go up the hills for some km, through a winding road. Don't get scared of the short narrowness of the road, usually there is not much traffic, so push your claxon sometimes, just to be safe. Local drivers are usually perfectly skilled for these routes, as you could be with a bit of practice.
The road ends directly into the pedestrian alley of Bussana Vecchia, so, especially in Summer period, park your car a hundred meters before, better two hundred. Later, it will be magic, coming back under the sky full of stars, following the tiny lightning bugs.
The restaurant we are talking about is just a 30 mts before the grass in front of the bell tower, directly on the road you drove up. You will easily smell the flavour of barbecue long before reaching the place, making your expectation hard to stand. Tables outside are perfect in summer, while tables inside in front of the fireplace are even better in Wintertime.
Pasta dishes are good, but the hot spot here is Angus meat, mutton roasted with potatoes, and desserts. If you will be kind and friendly to the owner, he will willingly offer you a free tasting session of local digestive liqueurs. That's all. Go up to the grass stating at the sky and meditate.

“Nice view, simple food in a romantic place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2011

Bussana Vecchia is the artist's small town which was ruined during an hearthquake, so don't expect luxury restaurants.

La Casaccia restaurant is located at the end of the streets which can be driven. Then you have to park and walk 200mt to the restaurant.
Terrace wooden tables and long seats make the restaurant a little "oldish".
The "Rostelle" are the traditional dish in San Remo area (sort of small meat skewers) cooked at the grill.

Service is comparable to the place. Very gentle people, not professional waiters for sure, but very very enjoyable.

You can definitively go there with your girl/boy-friend/wife/husband and take a romantic walk in the evening (no heels for women - advised!).
With the family is a good place to walk with childrens.

Bussana Vecchia is an independent artist's community, so expect some music, events, free circus, etc in summer, but you will need to check yourself or maybe just go there and see what's happening.
