“All necessary facilities but no charm and chic”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 11, 2011

We've got a corner room, so it was pretty big with partial sea view. Other standard rooms are smaller but also large enough with very high сeiling and new furniture. The hotel is newly repaired and everything works just fine including conditioner. The hotel has places on the 1st category beach and some of them are free of charge. Location is on the main walking street near Casino so its pretty much the center of the city activity. You've also get simple but very good cafe in the hotel with 10% discount from the hotel (and there are not too many other good cafes nearby). And there is the brilliant terrace on the roof where breakfast is serving.
Poor breakfast, small TV with Eurosport in German (it was US Open while we stayed there). It's not a first line horel so you don't have rooms with sea view. Also some other hotels are situated in man-made tropical forest, this one is on the main walking and shopping street. Sometimes staff is not very polite, but it rather depends on a person.

Room Tip: Corner rooms are bigger

Spent three nights in this hotel in the end of August 2011.The hotel is wonderfully located close to the beautiful casino building. You can use the garage for your car which is located rather far from the hotel, but costs 15 EUR/night, I suppose it is worth to pay this price. Staff is friendly and helpful. Room is absolutely out-dated, but clean. Breakfast is ok, but served on the open terrace which has no ventilation or air conditioning so it is not comfortable to eat outside because of outside temperature. Food was ok, but not more as twice I saw rotten vegetables and fruit salad there which is ABSOLUTELY not acceptable for a chain 4 star hotel. I suppose that hotel could be acceptable for 1-2 nights, but not more and always take into consideration the price offer (if may happened).

Booked one of the Royal Suites for a celebratory break. Made the booking through Booking.com via Tripadvisor, of course. Think it would be fair to say the room was quite expensive but then, once in SanRemo, it appears *everything* is expensive!

Had some great help and communication with Romana who made sure we had a great room with a great view. And it was great. The 'balcony' was little more than a Juliette style balcony, you can stand on it but that's about it, but still it was great. From the balcony you can see the sea although obscured by the building opposite but still... you can see it :)

From the bedroom window were views of the SanRemo casino and again the sea and the main thoroughfare. The room was really lovely. Twin double beds, lots of wardrobe space. Excellent shower/jacuzzi bath room separate from the toilet, bidet, basins room. The living room has a separate tv and a sofa that makes up into a bed. There is a minibar and safe and tea making facilities.

The staff are great at the hotel. All of them smile and say hello and it always strikes me this is a sign of a great hotel. If the staff are happy, the guests are generally happy as well.

Breakfast on the seventh floor is sensational. Loads of choice and the option of sitting inside or outside (except of course the outside is a smoking zone...). Be advised, whilst breakfast goes on until 11am you would be advised to get there no later than 10am if you want a reasonable choice of all the options. One small nagging issuette, not to keen on seeing staff taking a 'fag break' *in* the kitchen... oh well... it is Italy!

The terrace areas are lovely on the seventh floor. There are a pair of gazebos in which to hide from the sun although you might have to share or wait your turn. There are plenty of sunbeds including on the upper seventh floor and an outdoor shower under which you can cool down and some fans to try to keep you cool as well.

There is a small jacuzzi also on the seventh floor although something we did not try.

It struck me the one thing that was missing from the seventh floor was a bar. I am sure, in the evening especially, it would make a fortune. And if not a bar then an easy way of ordering drinks from the ground floor bar would be excellent.

The restaurant and bar on the ground floor are separate and both excellent. We did note, with amusement, that the menu for the bar contains possibly the worst menu photographs you have ever seen, but don't let this put you off the offerings. We tried several things. The ice creams are great... as are the cocktails. The staff are also wonderful and very helpful.

The restaurant as well was great. The meals we had there were excellent and I recommend the restaurant even if you are not staying at the hotel.

Both the bar and restaurant have outside seating where you can enjoy watching the rich and famous promenading up the main street... the only downside is the smoking. Smoking is permitted, and greatly enjoyed, in open spaces in Italy and if you sit outside for a meal or a drink, somebody *will* light up at the next table. Live with it, or sit inside!

Think the only minor complaint I would have is that one of the sockets by the bedside was poorly fitted and fell out several times. The aircon seems a little ineffective but think there might have been some general problems whilst we were there. The windows open and you get a great sea breeze although the downside is it can be a little noisy until the early hours, not that it stopped me sleeping. Apart from that I think the room, the hotel, the staff, the facilities were all great!

Seems to be a mecca for Russians as well. That seems to be a positive thing. The nouveau riche of the Russian Federation have a new found desire for all things good and for good quality... so it is almost certainly a good sign to find yourself surrounded by them :)

the hotel was well located across the street from the sea next door to the Casino. all of the staff from the general manager Cristian to the front desk staff were genuinely interested in our comfort and pleasure. the on site restaurant, operated by Marcello and staff was fantastic, the food was so tasty and nicely presented, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay. the rooms were comfortable, clean and nicely appointed. the roof top terrace where breakfast was served and later used as a lounge had a magnifiscent view of the sea and the surrouinding coast line/town. the only negative comments would be to say that the property lacks sufficient parking arrangements and a pool, but then again who needs a pool when you have the sea at your door step. next time i won't drive, i'll take a shuttle!!!

We had a lovley stay in San Remo, everything was perfect , but not the weather.
As soon as we walked in the door to Hotel Nazionale we was greated by very friendly staff, who cared to our every need the whole stay.
beautiful roof terrace and breakfast room.
We stayed in a family room,as we travelled with 2 children, and it was a really big room with lots of space for the whole family. Nice thick towels in the bathroom.
The beds was made up twice a day, and also change of towels.
We stayed for Easter, and on Easter sunday the staff brought easter bunny chocolates for our children, a very nice and unexpected gesture.
The Hotel manager checked up on us everyday that we had everything we needed.
A very nice restaurant was adjoing the hotel, very convenient as our children had easy access to our room, when the dinner felt too ong for them .-)
All in all, a very nice stay!! We would recommend this hotel to friends.

We got at the hotel at 11.40 and they changed our room so we could check in straight away which was good.

We checked in and were taken to our room which was nice little touch.

The room was very clean and nice. Plenty of information and info about the hotel in our room.

All the staff were great, willing to help us all the time.

Breakfast was great plenty of choice.

There is a turn down service which we didnt expect and was a nice little touch, the towels were changed, toilet roll replaced and the bed sheets pulled back.

The restaurant was amazing, great food and staff. Hotel guests get 10% discount.

We will be returning to this hotel hopefully.
