Booked one of the Royal Suites for a celebratory break. Made the booking through Booking.com via Tripadvisor, of course. Think it would be fair to say the room was quite expensive but then, once in SanRemo, it appears *everything* is expensive!
Had some great help and communication with Romana who made sure we had a great room with a great view. And it was great. The 'balcony' was little more than a Juliette style balcony, you can stand on it but that's about it, but still it was great. From the balcony you can see the sea although obscured by the building opposite but still... you can see it :)
From the bedroom window were views of the SanRemo casino and again the sea and the main thoroughfare. The room was really lovely. Twin double beds, lots of wardrobe space. Excellent shower/jacuzzi bath room separate from the toilet, bidet, basins room. The living room has a separate tv and a sofa that makes up into a bed. There is a minibar and safe and tea making facilities.
The staff are great at the hotel. All of them smile and say hello and it always strikes me this is a sign of a great hotel. If the staff are happy, the guests are generally happy as well.
Breakfast on the seventh floor is sensational. Loads of choice and the option of sitting inside or outside (except of course the outside is a smoking zone...). Be advised, whilst breakfast goes on until 11am you would be advised to get there no later than 10am if you want a reasonable choice of all the options. One small nagging issuette, not to keen on seeing staff taking a 'fag break' *in* the kitchen... oh well... it is Italy!
The terrace areas are lovely on the seventh floor. There are a pair of gazebos in which to hide from the sun although you might have to share or wait your turn. There are plenty of sunbeds including on the upper seventh floor and an outdoor shower under which you can cool down and some fans to try to keep you cool as well.
There is a small jacuzzi also on the seventh floor although something we did not try.
It struck me the one thing that was missing from the seventh floor was a bar. I am sure, in the evening especially, it would make a fortune. And if not a bar then an easy way of ordering drinks from the ground floor bar would be excellent.
The restaurant and bar on the ground floor are separate and both excellent. We did note, with amusement, that the menu for the bar contains possibly the worst menu photographs you have ever seen, but don't let this put you off the offerings. We tried several things. The ice creams are great... as are the cocktails. The staff are also wonderful and very helpful.
The restaurant as well was great. The meals we had there were excellent and I recommend the restaurant even if you are not staying at the hotel.
Both the bar and restaurant have outside seating where you can enjoy watching the rich and famous promenading up the main street... the only downside is the smoking. Smoking is permitted, and greatly enjoyed, in open spaces in Italy and if you sit outside for a meal or a drink, somebody *will* light up at the next table. Live with it, or sit inside!
Think the only minor complaint I would have is that one of the sockets by the bedside was poorly fitted and fell out several times. The aircon seems a little ineffective but think there might have been some general problems whilst we were there. The windows open and you get a great sea breeze although the downside is it can be a little noisy until the early hours, not that it stopped me sleeping. Apart from that I think the room, the hotel, the staff, the facilities were all great!
Seems to be a mecca for Russians as well. That seems to be a positive thing. The nouveau riche of the Russian Federation have a new found desire for all things good and for good quality... so it is almost certainly a good sign to find yourself surrounded by them :)
