“Skiing in Sauze sating at the Gran Baita”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 25, 2013

Just returned from another visit to the Via Latte, staying at the rather old fashioned Gran baita.
Shush! keep is quiet, ace place with a very welcoming owner, Palo. Very good food and extremely friendly atmosphere. Always made to feel at home and would definitely return.

Just returned, this was the second time my girlfriend and i have stayed here. I'm wary of going back to the same hotel but this one was definitely worth the risk. We had an excellent stay, the hotel is a nice rustic ski hotel. Rooms were very good, we paid extra and got a bigger room. In my opinion its worth it. Paolo and the rest of the staff are very nice to deal with and are extremely helpful. Hotel clean and tidy. The food was amazing, best i've had on a skiing holiday, that was the main reason we went back. only downside was i put my towel down on the bathroom floor to get replaced as instructed but i still had the same towel that night, but thats me being a bit picky. Located a 2 min walk from the town/ski bus stop but out of the way to be reasonably quiet, only people going past are from the hotel. Clotes a 15 min walk uphill. All in all i would recommend this hotel, good value for money, good locatioon and great ski area, in fact i'll probably return next season.

Room Tip: Go for a bigger room

This was our first visit to the region and to this hotel. The holiday was booked through Crystal and was thoroughly enjoyable. Turin airport was chaotic with several flights baggage on one carousel and the 10 minute walk with luggage and skis across the airport to the bus was not a great start.
The bus journey to Sauze took around 90 minutes but the travel niggles are worth putting up with as the ski area is excellent.
We were warmly greeted by Paolo the manager and were allocated room 327 which was 3 bedded room which was basic ,very clean with great views over the mountains. The room had a large bathroom with a shower. Would have been great to have duvets on the beds rather than sheets .
Breakfasts are great with a large choice and as much tea/ coffee as you can drink. The evening meals are taken between 7.30pm to 8pm and there is a choice of 3 starters,3 mains and 3 sweets. Overall the food quality was good.
There is a boot and ski store outside the hotel but the boot rack does not adequately warm the boots .A 5 minute walk to the ski bus stop is not a problem and buses run every 20 mins from 9am and are very busy at weekends. We had no issues getting to the lifts and the 3pm bus back from Clotes got us back to the Assieta bar for apres ski in the sunshine.
The pistes are well groomed , wide and well connected and we particularly liked Sauze and Sestriere with Montgenevre the least favourite mainly because it was so cold.
Went on a well organised Crystal trip to the football at the San Siro in Milan which was really a great experience.
There is a very good traditional restaurant in the village called Villa Danielle which serves very good food and is reasonably priced.
The staff at the hotel are excellent, very helpful and eager to ensure your holiday goes well.
Jade the Crystal rep was superb, very approachable, helpful and professional.
This was a great holiday which we really enjoyed and would have no hesitation in recommending the hotel and resort.

Room Tip: ask for 3 bedded accommodation with balcony

A modern Alpine hotel, run by a former Italian ski champion, this has comfortable rooms, a cosy bar lounge with an open fire and great food. It is three minutes from the village centre and the free ski shuttles.

Sauze nightlife is (in)famous, but the old town offers quieter delights. A great place to visit and a great hotel to stay in.

Room Tip: If you're a skier, ask for a room with a bath, to soak away those aches and pains.

Just returned from a ski holiday with friends used a package deal with Crystal. The hotel is a traditional family run hotel. Shared 3 person room which was fit for purpose. Accommodation is basic but all we needed. Staff are really friendly and helpful. Nice comfy bar with log fire. Food is really nice and overall package was great value. Ski area is extensive with good runs but most of the blacks are more like red runs. Didnt spoil the enjoyment as we were not blessed with great weather. Plenty of apres ski opportunities. Crystal staff were very good.

Stayed here for a week's skiing. We were welcomed by the friendly owner and his helpful staff. The hotel was vey comfortable and I could feel very happy dressing down and walking around the lounge/bar area in just my socks after a hard day's skiing! The bar staff were very friendly and helpful and made us feel really relaxed as we drank in the bar. The food was very good, with traditional Italian breakfasts of coffee, cakes, coissants, yoghursts, toast, meat, cheese etc. I love Italian breakfasts and this was up there with the best. Evening meals started off with a fabulous spread of anti- pasti dishes. This was then followed by three courses, usually a pasta or risotto course, then a meat and veg with a loveky dessert. The quality was very good, although the choices may not always be to your liking every night but this is only a minor issue having stayed 7 nights. On the whole it was a fabulous taditional hotel with a strong Italian character. I would definitely go back.
