“Excellent hotel,”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 28, 2013

After reading other reviews I was not sure about our choice, but was very pleased with the location, the staff were so helpful ie printing off maps explaining all local attractions, and the food was excellent, I am also quite fussy about the food I eat. There was a full buffet salad as the 1st starter then 2nd starter, then main & dessert, portions were not large but very nice, the room was very clean on arrival.

The hotel is well placed to walk to the lake side area and close to several excellent cafes and restaurants in the old town. Also only 15 mins-ish walk to the bus station. The rooms and bathroom facilities were fine for a short break. Although we had a street facing room it was very quiet despite being over the hotel entrance and across from shops. All the staff were lovely- helpful and welcoming. Our main problem was with the food. Breakfast was OK but not the range or standard we expected from a 4* hotel. The evening meal was poor. Although it was waitress served and had 4 courses it seemed to be geared for the German market. The food was bland and on several occasions we left most of the food. Although on half-board we went out 2 evenings out of 5. There are many excellent restaurants and if we went again we would only pay for B&B. This really took the edge off our holiday as we had expected top rate food in a 4* hotel.

Room Tip: We were in 303. Cool room with little/no sun. No balcony but windows that open looking onto street

Stayed in this hotel for three nights with my frien whilst in Lake Garda celebrating my birthday, Top marks for this reasonably priced hotel in an excellent location. Lots of shops and cafes nearby as well as supermarkets. And just a few minutes walk to the harbour which was perfect. Very warm welcome when we arrived. Room was spacious enough and very clean. Very comfy bed (I have a bad back, so it even worked for me!). TV available but few English channells except for BBC News. No tea/cofffee making facilities available, but think that's pretty normal in Europe. Air-conditioning in the room. Great shower and facilities in the bathroom - nice and clean and modern. The breakfast was great (buffet), and lots of choices. Fantastic service in the restaurant (same place as for breakfast), and the food was just devine! There is a solarium and gym at the top of the hotel, which has the most breath taking views, and a great place to have a cigarett and coffee. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Think it's a bit hit and miss, but if you get a room with access to the solarium then you are on...

We stayed at the Antico Borgo for ten days and absolutely loved it. We were a bit wary before we went as we have a one year old baby, and couldn’t find much information on the internet about how family friendly the hotel was, but were really relieved when we got there to find such a welcoming hotel. The staff went out of their way to make things easier for us during our stay. The reception desk staff were all brilliant, helpful and friendly, and the staff in the restaurant were absolutely delightful – as well as tolerant of our often-crying son!

The location of the hotel cannot be bettered, it’s just about in the most central location you can find in Riva, and you walk straight out onto the narrow winding streets leading to the lake (which is about two minutes away). The hotel was extremely clean, and our room had all the facilities we needed (apart from a kettle! But to fill up our son’s bottles with boiling water we just went and asked at the bar and they were happy to provide water for us). There was no bath, but quite a big shower so we didn’t find that problematic.

We paid extra for a balcony - which was perhaps not money well-spent in the end as the balcony only looked out over the roof and other balconies rather than being able to see the street. We were also overlooked by the corridor from the lift. It didn't spoil the room or holiday by any means - but if booking a room with a balcony, maybe be clear that you want to be able to see the street rather than just have a balcony

The roof terrace, however, was terrific. Before the holiday I didn’t imagine we’d be up there much, but even on the hot sunny days it was pretty empty, so was a nice place to take a pot of tea and sit overlooking the lake and the town.

The food in the restaurant was absolutely beautiful. At breakfast we were asked to choose the evening’s menu. As it turned out, we only had dinner at the hotel four times as we didn’t want to subject people to crying too much, but when we ate there it was great, you can pick appetisers from a buffet, and then have three courses that you’ve picked earlier. It’s all very smoothly run and the maître d’ is great. Also, if you buy a bottle of wine one night and don’t finish it, then they return the rest of the bottle to you for subsequent meals, which is a great idea.

In short, we definitely hope to return to Antico Borgo as they feel like firm friends now, and we couldn’t have asked for a better hotel.

Room Tip: We had Room 305 with a bit of a rubbish balcony. Room was lovely and spacious but if a balcony is a...

We stayed at this hotel last year and absolutely loved it. This was possibly the best holiday we have been on. The hotel was in a perfect location, less than five minutes walk from the lake. We hired a pedalo twice while we were there and went out on the lake for an hour each time which was lovely, amazing surroundings with the mountains all around you and glorious weather. The first time we went out on the pedalo, we got engaged out there. I was not expecting it at all but I couldn't of asked for a better proposal with the idylic scenery around us. We definitely want to go back to Lake Garda and if we do we would not hesitate in booking Antico again. The staff were so friendly and when they heard we had got engaged they arranged for a lovely bottle of bubbly to be sent over to us at dinner that night. The rooftop of the hotel is lovely for sunbathing and great views of Riva and the bedrooms were very clean and spacious with a nice balcony to sit out on for a drink in the evenings if we didn't feel like going out. We are desperate to go back but also want to visit other parts of Italy so hopefully one day we will go back but we highly recommend this hotel if you're staying in Riva. There's good places to go walking up the mountain not far from the hotel and we hired bikes out as well for a couple of days and cycled a few hours out of Riva which was good fun.

My husband and I stayed at Antico Borgo from 13th April 2013 for 5 nights. We had a wonderful holiday the weather was fantastic. All the staff were excellent, couldn't do enough for you. The hotel is clean and tidy, the room was spacious and was cleaned every day. The hotel is situated close to the waterfront, but far enough away from the busy, main areas, so excellent location. The food was excellent, and the restaurant staff very friendly. We will certainly come back to Antico Borgo, as we have fallen in love with Lake Garda and the surrounding beautiful scenery. 4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 19, 2013

My wife and I stayed here for 5 nights in April 2013. We agreed it was a great hotel. Neat, tidy, well maintained and serviced, well managed, nice, friendly and helpful staff. Its in a great location. Just far enough away from the waterfront so as not to be too noisy, and far enough from the main road for the same reason. Two minutes from the town square and close to shops and resteraunts. Only reason I didnt give it 5 stars is that for the first couple of nights we didnt sleep very well due to the fact that we could quite easily hear our neigbouring room occupants, including snoring which was quite frustrating but then I told Dana at the front counter and she quickly rectified the situation
(occupants left that morning, so she kept the adjoining room free for the next two nights which was very good of her). We would definately stay here again though.

Room Tip: We had room 207. We had a nice view of the mountain and the Bastione.
