We have just returned from a nine day holiday to Lake Garda with National Holidays, spending five nights at the Hotel Virgilio in Riva del Garda. The long journey was made great fun by our two drivers, Andy and Andy. The journey was long but we knew where Italy was so this didn't come as a great shock to us, although reading some reviews some people maybe need to look at an atlas first. The Hotel Virgilio is a family run hotel. The facilities were first class, the room was cleaned each morning with fresh towels daily. The selection of food available at breakfast was more than you would expect for a continental breakfast, including a selection of breads, tarts, cereals, ham, salami, cheese, scrambled eggs, yoghurt, fruit salad, fruit juice, tea and coffee. The evening meal consisted of four courses and was perfectly adequate. The Gala Dinner was particularly good, including the entertainment. We had no issues with the free bar, it seemed normal to return the glasses to the bar as we had finished, Kevin the barman offered a cheeky, friendly service and the banter carried on between him and us guests.
The inclusive excursions to Venice, the Dolomtes and Verona were excellent, as was the optional tour round Lake Garda.
Finally this holiday was great value for money. Thank you to all at the Virgilio, Andy and Andy, and all our crowd on the bus who made this a great holiday.

We have just returned from a National Holidays trip to Lake Garda and have noting but praise for both the drivers and the Hotel Virgilio. The Hotel was clean, (room was cleaned each day whilst we breakfasted – true, not full English but plenty of variety, but guess what, we were in Italy, not Blackpool), all the staff friendly and helpful, and although once we were asked if we could return our glasses (for our benefit, to get the next free drinks quicker!) we were never refused anything, even without glasses, and there was never a queue. I found the food of very good quality and variety, and portion sizes more than adequate, and I am 15 stone, well 16 stone….OK, and a half!!! As a couple, we struggled to finish the 4 courses each night. I can only assume that Bob W went to a different Hotel Virgilio to everyone else. The two Andy’s (our coach drivers) were also excellent, using humour and quick wit to make the long two day journey each way bearable. Excellent value, thank you all.

As with any long trip by coach as I did you have to expect the unexpected things do go wrong!!!!
But when we got to the hotel what a welcome you were made to feel like one of the family straight away,
The rooms were spacious and clean,
The food on a daily bases just got better with a great selection for breakfast and the evening meal surpassd expectation for the great price that I paid to National Holidays.
The staff will make your stay special and the hotel barman/waiter Kevin will have you in stitches on a nightly bases.
Could not fault the hotel or service one to book and experence the delights of RivaDel Garda
Would return again DEFO

Stayed 5 nights at this hotel - Cannot praise the staff enough for their hospitality, service and friendliness. Food was excellent with enough choices to accomodate most people.Rooms were immaculalely clean. There is even a bike museum in the basement!
Found a gorgeous pub called "The pub" in Riva Del Garda Town which was a pleasant 15-20 min walk away - the staff in the pub were great (a man and wife team) gave us free snacks and were a wealth of information. I fell in love with Italy on this holiday and will certainly return.

Just returned from a nine day trip to Riva del Garda, staying six nights at the Virgilio.

Some reviewers appear to be marking the hotel down because of the failing of National Express in supply two drivers & the length of the journey. It is a long, tiring journey, but hardly the fault of the Virgilio. Folks should take account of the journey before booking the trip or fly to Verona.

We arrived at the Virgilio around 8pm, were quickly given the keys to our rooms & were eating our evening meal within half an hour. All the staff were courteous, helpful & efficient throughout our stay. There were four courses every evening which were varied & more than enough to eat. There was a wide choice for breakfast too. Ham, salami, cheese, scrambled eggs, boiled eggs, cereals, choice of tarts, fresh fruits, several breads, coffees & teas etc. No one in our party appeared dissatisfied with any of the food either at breakfast of evening meal. You have the choice of sitting inside or outside for breakfast. Evening meals are served in the dining room.

The gala night (Thursday) meal was very nice with a huge, tasty joint of pork being carved at the table. There was also an excellent keyboard player / singer who entertained us that evening, A very enjoyable evening indeed.

Our free drinks were from 8.30pm till 11.30pm each evening & they were served quickly & efficiently, mostly by Kevin without any of the usual queuing. When paying for drinks they were as cheap as anywhere else in the resort. A jug of wine holding four large glasses of wine was 6 Euros.

We were in Rm. 105 & although the bathroom was small it was adequate from our needs. The water was always hot & the bin emptied every day by the efficient cleaners. The bedroom was fine with a modern Samsung widescreen TV that, unusually, worked. There were a couple of steps up to the balcony which gave a nice view towards the lake (not seen) & mountains. The windows were double glazed & there was no traffic noise at night, even with the windows left open. Free air conditioning was also provided & there was a 5 Euro charge if the wall safe was required,

There is also a couple of lounges where you can sit if you do not wish to stay in you room. There is a Co-op store about 80 yds from the hotel & a huge Lidl store a couple of hundred yards up the road if required.

On our last night we were invited to visit the owners cycle museum housed in the hotel basement & should not be missed.

The consensus of opinion from myself & our party was that they would go back to both the hotel & the resort.

Room Tip: This higher the room numbers the better the views of the resort
