“A special holiday”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 1, 2012

We were delighted to find an Inghams Late Deal that ticked all the boxes, including our choice of Riva as the ideal location on Lake Garda. We had never visited the Italian Lakes and one is always both excited and apprehensive. We need not have worried - Riva was perfect - chic in a friendly way, lively yet relaxing, a great base for ferry trips to Limone or Malchesine and a healthy walk to the water activities of Torbole. The north lake mountain location added a sense of drama ( including amazing short storms ! ).
Existing Tripadvisor reviews of the Villa Nicolli were very good and give a pretty accurate picture of the hotel. We loved the location - away from the town centre activity in a very quiet location. It provided a 10-15 minute walk into the town centre that was good exercise and helped digestion after dinner.
The standard Comfort Rooms are really the minimum size that one would expect of a 4 star hotel - OK provided you didn't both move around the room together ! The room and bathroom were very clean, the twin beds somewhat hard but everything was as you would expect in a good hotel.
As others have reported, the evening meal is a rather slow but tasty experience. The wine is good but expensive. The buffet provision at lunchtime is slightly haphazard ( ameliorated by the fact it is free if you buy a drink ! ). Breakfasts are also buffet style, but are fine, with a good range of options. If you like a strong cup of english tea bring your own tea bags - the range offered is sophisticatedly delicate !
The need for bathing caps in the pool is bizarre, but they only cost 3E at reception. The spa and pool are the perfect place for a pamper.
If you are looking to pose and preen this may not be the hotel for you. Having said that, the pool, the surrounding gardens and the excellent sunbeds are the perfect place to enjoy the sunshine.

The staff and owners are lovely people. The fact that the hotel is family owned is its strength if you are looking for a friendly experience that is relaxed and unpretentious.
Our intention to return is the best recommendation.

Room Tip: Upgrade to the larger rooms if you can. Take a travel kettle and mugs if you like a cup of tea ( buy...

This was my partner and I second visit to the villa nicolli, having visited them the same time last year. Driving up to the hotel it felt like we had not been away, very quiet residential area and at the end of the lane, stands the villa nicolli! Upon arrival we were greeted by one of the lovely receptionists. We recognised her from last year and straight away she recognised us too..... Don't know her name but she wears glasses and has shoulder length dark curly hair. She is a very pleasant and friendly lady and is an asset to the villa nicolli, she always smiled and greeted us when leaving the hotel or coming back after our day out.

Check in was flawless and we were upgraded to a junior suite as it was my birthday and our second visit. Many thanks for doing this for us!!! The room was a good size and overlooked the mountains and pool. Room was very very clean and decorated in a Italian traditional style. We unpacked and went for evening dinner. The restaurant was the same, but was missing one very important thing.......... Antonio the head waiter!!! We were told last year by Antonio that he was returning to brazil to be with his family, so we were surprised when we saw a new head waiter. Unfortunately he was not Antonio and did not bring the same friendly atmosphere to the restaurant! If there is ever a chance of Antonio returning to lake garda then please bring him back as head waiter!!

The restaurant is immaculate and the food is generally good, there were a few times where we weren't sure about what we were eating but I have had much worse food in 5 star hotels than this. Anyone who had previously stayed at the villa nicolli will notice that the desert table has gone where you helped yourself, now it is part of the menu. Some have complained about this on trip adviser but I believe this is a much better way of doing it as in the past if you came down late in the evening the desert table looked a mess due to people destroying cakes etc..... It was like a kiddies table all messed up, only done by adults.

One suggestion I would make is for the bread rolls to be left in a container so you can get them yourself, instead of being left on your table, as they tended to be dry if you came down for dinner later on. Service at times could be slow but it was very busy and could not be helped. I was given a glass of wine for my birthday and the head waiter shook my hand, very personal and nice gesture.

I'm not going to go on about lake Garda as a whole just that the place is spectacular and anyone wanting a lovely relaxed holiday should come here, you will deffinately return.

Now I hate to say anything bad about the villa nicolli, but one big thing that needs to be addressed are the beds....... They are so uncomfortable, at least in our room 214! One bed sags in the middle and the other was so hard. This unfortunately led to both of us struggling to have decent sleep. I know you can't please everyone more so when it comes to the beds but really the beds need to be looked at..... It is such a shame as the hotel is fantastic and staff are all lovely. We met the owner who was lovely (I don't understand the negative remarks about him, maybe if you treat people with respect you will gain respect back!). I would have given the hotel nicolli 5 stars had it not been for the beds....... But I can assure anyone visiting lake Garda that the villa nicolli is a fatastic place to base yourself (10 min walk to centre) and you will return again...... One other thing to note is that the hotel is very popular with the Germans, Dutch etc...... Please don't let this put you off as its not like being in Spain....... We met a lovely couple from Finland and everyone is very friendly.

So Villa Nicolli thank you for a lovely holiday and for being so friendly........ Just please get new mattresses and bring back Antonio PLEASE!! Will we stay again....... Most likely!!

I have just returned from the above hotel. Everything was first class, from start to finish. The proprietors were involved and available to help; the receptionists were pleasant and friendly and most helpful at all times; the dining room was first-class with professional, efficient and pleasant service and the food excellent; the chambermaids were also delightful and efficient and our beautiful room was cleaned to perfection every day (the bed is the most comfortable I have ever slept in!). I can't wait to return again to the same hotel in 2013.

Room Tip: All rooms are quiet and decor is excellent. The views of the mountains and vineyards or swimming poo...

This is our 4th holiday at this hotel. We like it because it is very quiet, and really relaxing. The rooms are extremely clean and well supplied with towels, and clean linen. We stayed late June and although the food was still good the salad bar was not as good as it has been past years, and the dessert buffet has disappeared completely, this has to be ordered along with the other food courses. The staff were efficient and very very friendly, and we were recognised by several members. Before our departure we were asked to complete a hotel questionaire which stated that they were considering introducing a children's club. This would totally change the quiet nature of the place and we would definately not return if this move goes ahead, as it would change the whole atmosphere of the hotel and its surroundings.

Thank you very much for your nice comments on Tripadvisor but most of all for the preference you set in our hotel visiting us for the 4th time.. We are happy that you enjoyed some peaceful and relaxing days with us: definitely we can confirm that we are not going to create a children’s club in the future. We only wanted to check our guests’ opinion about such an opportunity but you are right, that would change our identity and the hotel atmosphere, and like you, we give peace and quiet a great value! So come and visit us again: we hope to have the pleasure to welcome you soon to experience the same relaxation. Arrivederci!!!

We stayed at Hotel Villa Nicolli from 7th to 14th July booked through Inghams and Travel Zoo so we got a really good deal. As said in previous reviews, the hotel is in a really quiet part of Riva, with about a 10 -15 minute walk into the centre. The hotel itself had a lovely atmosphere, everyone was very friendly and the staf were excellent. Our room overlooked the vine yards and mountains and was kept spotlessly clean.
Breakfast and lunch were servied on the terrace but the evening meal was in the restaurant.

For people who really appreciate fine food, the menu was varied and consisted of smoked salmon, veal, guinea fowl, sea bass, trout - to mention just a few. My problem was that apart from eating chicken, I don't eat any meat and there wasn't much choice for someone who verges on being a vegetarian. However, people who had other dietary requirements were very well looked after.

My only criticism would be that the complimentary lunch seemed to consist of what was on the menu the night before.

The spa was fantastic but took some finding. However, that worked to our advantage as there was hardly ever anyone else in it!! We had a great holiday and would recommend this hotel to anyone.

Room Tip: Rooms with view of vineyard and mountains were great.

This is our 3rd or 4th holiday at this hotel. We like it because it is quiet, especially around the pool with ball games, music etc banned which makes it really relaxing. Buongiorno from Villa Nicolli Romantic Resort.
Thank you for your opinion left on Trip Advisor: very apreciated!
We would just reassure you that we do not have intention of makeing a miniclub.

The question on our form has been probably misunderstood.
We were just wondering and asking to our guests if introducing some services for children could be interesting or not. The target of our hotels is most adults and couple because, as you say, we want to keep the quiet and peace as you experieced and we do not wanto to change image.
THANK YOU SO MUCH and come again please!

We stayed at Hotel Villa Nicolli 26th May - 2nd June 2012. Booked by Inghams Holidays through Travel Zoo website. The hotel was a short walk (10 mins) from the Lake in a quiet residential area. The accomodation & facilities were excellent. The staff were efficient & charming. The food was wonderful. Waiter service & 5 course dinner (each night a different theme with many choice options ) in very attractive spacious restaurant. Breakfast buffet was good. The heated outdoor pool was immaculate, set in a beautiful garden, with bird song the only sound to be heard. A magical relaxed week.
