Just returned from a week's stay at Hotel Mirage Riva Lake Garda. Had booked the Savoy Palace but just 3 weeks before departure, Crystal Lakes informed me the hotel was over-booked and offered either a full refund or the Mirage.Too late to find another holiday at the same price so accepted substitute. Hotel was very clean and modern, the reception area and bar are just as photos previously submitted show, the glass bar is particularly nice. Rooms were well equipped but as they say "minimalist." We were told we had been given a larger room (not the superior one) than the standard size in view of the problems we had had. This was only just about an acceptable size, I hate to think what size the standard rooms are. However, we were on the top floor, as requested, and had a wonderful side view of the lake, facilities were good, shower, hairdryer, minbar, tv, free internet. The pool is good, not as big as we would have liked but quite adequate, area around pool adequate although if hotel full then insufficient chairs/sunloungers. There is however a nice sun terrace on the first floor with good views and more furniture. The main problem is the food which was pretty awful, not worthy of a four star hotel. Yes there were four courses for dinner, but they were very small portions, I should have known when given tinned peas and tinned fruit salad on the first evening!! Not what I would expect from a four star hotel. Location is quite good, opposite a small marina but unfortunately on the main road into Riva which is extremely busy, the traffic noise when lying by the pool was pretty bad. There is a lovely walk along the lakeside into Riva or an alternative route along the busy main road, but either way will take between 20 -25 mins, don't be fooled by the holiday brochures it is quite a jaunt.
All in all we did have a good time at the Hotel Mirage but having visited the Savoy Palace which we had booked we realised that there was no comparison and felt somewhat cheated. However, we did not pay a fortune, having booked when Crystal Lakes had special discounts on but if we had paid the full price for the Hotel Mirage ie. over £700 each for half board would have felt let down. Please do not let this put you off visiting the area, Lake Garda is wonderful, this is our second visit to the Lake and it is beautiful. Just be aware that the Mirage is a very modern impersonal hotel so if you are looking for Italian charm book elsewhere.
