We have just returned from a wonderful holiday in Hotel Garda, Riva del Garda. This is our 5th holiday at this hotel, and we hope to return again. We are welcomed like old friends each time we visit, and the friendliness and hospitality we receive is second to none. ~This year we stayed in one of the new rooms on the 5th floor, and all I can say is FABULOUS. It was a huge room with a huge very comfortable bed, and beautiful bathroom with a terrific shower. The view of the lake from the balcony is breathtaking. Food is wonderful, starting with a great selection for breakfast, followed by a lovely lunch ( which is more like dinner, with plenty of choice and dessert or fresh fruit). This is followed by tea/coffee cake and fruit at 4pm, and then a 4 course meal at 7pm. Excellent food and excellent service. You will certainly not be hungry here. There is a lovely relaxed atmosphere in the Garda hotel and the staff will do anything to help. A special mention about Hakim the head waiter, who is polite, friendly and will do whatever is necessary to make mealtimes enjoyable. And Irina our lovely lady who served us our meals, always with a happy smile. We have travelled a bit and stayed in many hotels but can honestly say this is our favourite one, it would be hard to beat. Beautiful hotel, friendly welcoming people, lovely food, beautiful area with a gorgeous lake. ~What more could you want? Go visit and experience this wonderful hotel and these lovely people. Many thanks Gabriella for another wonderful holiday, say hello to Goliath for us!

I must say after a bit of a sticky start our stay at is hotel was excellent. Our room was located on the 3rd floor overlooking another building and was not the best of standards. I spoke to Danielle the receptionist who assisted us a room move the next morning. The food was fine but on some occasions a larger portion of the starter which was normally pasta would have been sufficient. There is not a lot of sunbeds around the pool but we managed to get one each morning with the staff coming around regularly to see if you wanted a refreshment. Afternoon tea was an added bonus with delicious cakes and fresh fruit served everyday. Whilst there it was my husbands birthday and after a day trip we returned to our room with a bottle of prosecco, fresh fruit and a card from the management. Nice touch. What really makes this hotel is the staff, they were fantastic, from the manager to the night porter, but especially Danielle, Sofia and Felix. We will defiantly return.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the fourth floor

I booked this hotel for the single room, no supplement. It is a 10 to 15 minute walk to the centre of Riva but a very pleasant walk. There were also lots of extras included in the price, free wi-fi throughout the hotel, afternoon tea and cakes, bike hire, everyone rides bikes in resort, wine and soft drinks with dinner and no charge for the room safe.
The food although limited choice was excellent and they would cater for special diets with notice.
Excellent value and I would certainly return again.

We spent a week at Hotel Garda in July. We had a lovely room at the front on the 3rd floor overlooking the pool and the lake. The hotel staff are very friendly and would do anything to help. We went on a half board basis - but the hotel also included lunch (at the hotel or a packed lunch on request) and afternoon tea/coffee and cakes ... so much food. The dining experience was particularly enjoyable with waiter service and reserved seating in the restraunt.
The hotel included a free half litre on wine and a bottle of water for each evening meal which was very welcome.
Other good points include, free wifi throughout the hotel, free bike hire and the english tv channels on the tv in the room and the bar (we watched the Andy Murray final there with full english commentary)
The only negative point was the shortage of sun loungers around the pool (only 26 for a 75 room hotel) and the usual nonsense of people leaving towels on them all day (mostly Brits - not Germans!). I understand that a roof terrace is to be opened at some future stage so that will resolve the sun lounger issue to a certain extent.
Overall I would recommend this hotel highly - we were sorry to leave.
Thanks for a lovely week

Room Tip: There are three or four rooms on the first floor at the front that have a large patio/balcony - ie y...

My mother and father had stayed at Tonelli hotels in Riva Del Garda and had been full of praise. I had promised them that I would accompany them on a visit in Autumn 2012 but unfortunately, due to their ill health (and subsequent deaths), this never came about. My stay at Hotel Garda in July 2013 was, therefore, poignant.

We booked a re-furbished room with lake views, on a half board basis. The room was excellent, with a spa bath, air-con, etc. That's the good bit.

Unfortunately, other aspects of the hotel were not to same standard.

Starting with check-in: It was prompt and efficient. The receptionist managed to make eye contact for about 10 seconds, seemingly to find her computer screen more interesting. The one lift is very slow, in fact we used the stairs most times despite being on the 5th floor.

Restaurant: the breakfast was ample and varied although tinned fruit did seem penny pinching given the abundance of fresh fruit available in July. The dinners were OK to good, although limited to a choice of three starters and three main courses - which had to be chosen at breakfast time. The dining room service was ultra-efficient. Empty plates were removed as soon as the last fork full had been eaten. Staff buzzed around ensuring a smooth flow of diners, but there was no attempt to create any rapport with diners. It gave the impression of "get them in - get them out as quickly as possible".

At check out: the female on reception was friendly and took a personal interest.

Don't get me wrong. It's not bad but it does feel like the accountants are dictating hotel policy and the personal touch is missing. At around £100pp per night (all in) it's reasonable value, especially taking into account the standard of the room that we had.

Given my parents rave reviews, and the tone of the Tonelli website, we were (overall) disappointed (and I am disappointed to come to that conclusion)

Room Tip: Only 5th Floor rooms at front of hotel have lake views

We have just spent a week at this hotel and enjoyed a very relaxing holiday. The location is ideal, near to the lake and beach areas. Riva is a beautiful part of the world. The hotel was very clean, staff are very friendly and go out of their way to make you feel welcome. We would choose this hotel again if in this area.

This was the first time my friend and I had been to lake Garda - what a beautiful place. The hotel was spotless clean and food lovely. The staff in the dining room were exceptional although found some of the receptionists a bit distant !!

Room Tip: try and get a higher floor but there is only 5
