“Good Location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2012

Stayed here for 2 nights in July. The location is great; right on the lake. Rooms are clean and secure but quite dated. Wifi available in reception. Breakfast average for Italy. Friendly service. Parking available closeby for a charge. Fair for the price

My friend and I recently returned from Italy where we stayed at this hotel at the beginning of July, We had paid the extra for a lake view and whilst we didn't have a balcony as hoped, we were not disappointed!!

The room was nice, a little small but very well equipped.

The only downside to the hotel really was the breakfast, however that's probably just me as I don't eat sweet things like croissants etc in the morning but my friend loved it.

An underrated hotel indeed!

We stayed here in the last week of June. We were a little worried as previous reviews complained of no air con. In fact the air con was working throughout our stay and was perfect.

The location of this hotel is excellent. As a young couple we wanted relaxation and some nightlife. This hotel offered both if you wanted it. The ferry port is very convenient and there is so much to do in Riva and surrounding areas you cannot get bored.

The food is not terrible as some reviews state; however some nights were disappointing. The English translation of dishes was not great, so you were not always sure what you were getting! We chose to eat out a couple of nights; partly to do with the menu and partly for convenience.

Rooms are very clean and not really what I would call dated. They are typical Italian hotel rooms. We paid extra for a lake view room and were glad we did. You could not hear outside noise in our room and only occassionally did you hear the clock tower.

Overall I would recommend this hotel for location above all else, we had an excellent holiday.

This hotel should have more than a 3 star rating. We stayed 23-30th June, and paid extra for a Lake view room. We were thrilled to find we had a balcony! ( room 407). So wonderful overlooking the lake and Piazza. Saturday and Sunday evenings tend to have entertainment going on in the piazza...there was a jazz band and a vocalist, which went on til around 11.30pm. Out on the balcony of course it was easily heard, as was the chitter chatter of people sitting around outside, but once the balcony doors were closed you could barely hear anything. Indeed, it was lovely to watch it all. For The remainder of the week , evenings were much quieter. The bell tower chimes every quarter of an hour, but it really is little more than a background sound. For us, it was paradise to just stand at the balcony and gaze out on the lake.

The evening meal was very good. Excellent quality and plenty of it. Each evening you chose your meal for the following evening. Usually there was a choice of 2 starters and main courses, with a set dessert. There was no vegetarian option, but you could pay a little extra and choose to eat outside from the full menu. I had a problem because a dental crown I have became loose, and our waitress was very helpful, changing my meal for something soft to eat. Breakfast was not so good, as the cereal was not good quality, and the fruit was the tinned variety, but there was toast, croissants, and yoghurt also on offer. Enough for a light breakfast.
I have read reviews of complaint about the set menu being served on long tables in the restaurant. I confess I thought this would be a problem, as I am not a very social person, particularly at meal times, but not so. Indeed, although the tables eere very close to each other, they were all separated into pairs and you sat at the same table for each meal, so we did get to know our dinner neighbours a little, and shared our experiences of our days. The restaurant staff were lovely. Very friendly and courteous, and so hard working. We never waited longer than a couple of minutes for our meal!

Everywhere was meticulously clean. Towels and sheets were changed daily. Room was air conditioned... Very welcome as temperatures outside were in the high 30's! I know some reviews say the hotel decor is dated, but we thought it was charming.

So much to do here if you want it. Take a stroll along the left side of the lake and discover the stunning little beach areas. It seemed quite bizarre to watch the little waves come in with ducks swimming on them haha! And what a treat to be sitting in the shade of trees whilst on the beach! The Ducks and little birds are so tame, they eat from your hand!
There are even floating platforms for the children to jump from in some little areas, and pedalos for hire. The young and foolhardy might even want to take windsurfing lessons.
The museum has the most intact Roman artifacts I have ever seen.
We had a trip to Venice and Verona included in our holiday, and also went on the Lake tour and trip to the Dolomites. The Lake tour is not to be missed! A wonderful dip into the little places all around the lake, and an additional speedboat trip. Though you can easily get the ferry across to a any of the little places. We went to Limone...very beautiful . The Dolomites were stunning. We even picked up snow on the top!! The tyrolean scenery on the tour is wonderful, and we stopped off in a couple of little villages there. Sandra was our tour guide for Italian Gettaways , and she was brilliant. A great sense of humour too.

I guess you can't please all the people all the time, so you have to make your own mind up, but the place was the prettiest I have ever seen, and the Hotel was probably the nicest I have stayed in, not just because of the surroundings , but because of the people. Thank you to all of you. You made it special

Our first visit to Lake Garda and we were well pleased with our choice of hotel. Only downside was that our lake view room also overlooked the square and with an open window (no aircon in June) sleep before the early hours was not an option with loud music and conversation from nearby cafes. We were on b&b. Breakfast was ok but not exceptional (why tinned fruit when there is so much fresh on hand?). Excellent local eating places including a la carte at the Centrale. Boats leave from just opposite and over 65s get a 20% discount on showing their passports. About 15 mins walk from the beach. The staff were always helpful and friendly.
We travelled with Newmarket Holidays who did well with a charter flight out of our local Newquay airport. We decided not to take their rather overpriced tours and managed quite well organising ourselves.

Room Tip: Higher lake view rooms probably suffer less from noise from the square.

This hotel was the only thing that spoilt our holiday. It is jaded and badly in need of an update. I ate in the Butlins style room that the guests were appointed to just one night, then paid to eat outside for the other 6 nights. It wasn't the food, that was acceptable. It was the layout, tables in rows, and the seat covers were filthy. The staff were OK, just doing there job. In our hotel room, the gap between sitting on the toilet and the shower cabinet was only 6 inches, not comfortable. On asking to move and taking it up with the owner, I was told it is the best room in the hotel. Needless to say, I moved still. No air conditioning was allowed and the temperature was up in the high 70's. A group of asian ladies who had brought their elderly mother for a break, had to take her up to a cousin about 2.5hrs drive away, because she couldn't stand the heat in the room.

Room Tip: Take ear plugs if you want a room overlooking the Lake, and like to leave the windows open.

Just returned from 7 nights at the hotel. Wonderful location, worth paying that bit extra for a lake view. Only stayed bed and breakfast but plenty of good local restaurants and the hotel menu looked very good, we just ran out of time trying different places! Breakfast was a very good buffet and all the staff were very pleasant and helpful. Lovely white, fluffy towels changed every day and everywhere was very clean. Can't fault it and will certainly stay again.
