“Excellent location, splendid views. Satisfactory hotel.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 3, 2013 via mobile

The location and views this hotel has to offer is excellent.
Local amenities are good; lots of shops, restaurants, and entertainment in the square every evening, etc.
We enjoyed being able to take a water taxi to a number a little villages each day, very convenient.
Staff were very courteous.
The hotel room was fine - had everything we needed. Very clean and comfortable clean beds. We enjoyed sitting out on the veranda at night - we bought wine from a local shop and listened to the street music from the square below.
Good for both families and couples.
Staff speak good English.

There it was a beautiful Liberty style property, in sunshine yellow, adorning the old square. Although a bit tricky in getting to the hotel entrance, we finally got there. Ok, you have to have a discussion with the traffic officer while you attempt to unload your luggage. If you need help with your luggage - leave your car door open, take your keys with you, run into the hotel and enquire whether there is someone to help with the luggage (of two girls travelling for a month). Reluctantly the owner came to help us. We were checked in by same. Since parking is not available at the hotel, a community parking ticket is issued by the hotel for €5.00 per day. This ticket entitles you to park anywhere in the blue parking bays (not for barrier parking areas).

The lobby area, huge and full of light, unfortunately scattered with red and white sofas, chairs and gold ornate mirrors. An absolute sight for sore eyes!!

Our room was on the 4th floor, small balcony with one broken chair, no table! The room had a fair size. The interior design is completely amissed - the spindle wardrobe is enough for an overnight stay for single occupant. There is no mirror. The "dresser" is situated in front of the shower glass - which also serves as the division of the room - i.e. part of bathroom is in bedroom in the true sense of the hotel description. The bathroom is a messy wet room when in use - the water takes quite a while to drain.

The TV table is far too low and not on the required eye-level. Comforting, the view over the Lake and huge Magnolia trees. There was NO luggage rack in our room. On requesting same, I was told by the Receptionist, she will need to speak to the Manager. On my insistence and making aware that "this 4 star hotel" is supposed to have one in the room, one luggage rack soon found its way into our room. Again, on my insistence, we received a second one (two 50 something girls are not quite happy with luggage on the floor - our poor backs).

We were rudely awoken by moving chairs and tables by 7:00 AM. It's only when we went for breakfast that we realised the Restaurant with terrace, is situated above our room. Not very pleasant to wake up to such noise in the morning. There are not enough tables and chairs outside on the terrace to enjoy one's breakfast Alfresco. Some part of the breakfast terrace also serves as sun-bathing area. separated by a few meagre plants - not very user-friendly environment. The breakfast room/restaurant - all in drab brown colours - not exactly a joyous sight first thing in the morning. I asked myself whether the interior architect was depressed. Breakfast was OK. Breakfast staff in attendance was polite and helpful.

A musical evening took place at the weekend during our stay and we booked a specific table in advance. On the evening of the performance I had to remind the owner that we had actually booked a specific table, while we noticed that all the tables were occupied. He then improvised a table setting and told us we should be grateful to have a table after I reminded him that we did book a table 1 day in advance of the performance. Such arrogance. We will definitely not stay again.

After reading poor reviews of this hotel we were pleased to say that we enjoyed our stay at the Riva Hotel in July 2012. Hotel has been refurbished. Our balancy room was spacious and had great views overlooking the marina. The hotel is situated in a great location close to bars, shops and within walking distance to the ferry. Food fine and the restaurant is on the top floor with great views for evening meal and for breakfast. Staff and Manager very attentive and pleasant. I agree the bar is empty during the day and evening. The hotel is rated 4* but we say it's definately a good 3*

Great hotel was here July 2012 and has been completely renovated so many reviews are outdated. Was on my own and staff attentive and caring. Ate in a couple of times and food was excellent and they catered for my vegetarianism very well. Views are stunning and right on the Piazza made it perfect for atmospheric evening strolls. Was verging on idyllic!!

you couldn't ask for a better location in a most picturesque old town. This hotel was built to impress and recent refurbishments have modernised it (but not lavishly or expensively).

Rooms are standard twins with well reasonable facilities - safe, wardrobe, storage, TV, etc. The bathrooms are spacious with excellent showers.
I'm underwhelmed by chocholate brown carpets and formica wood-effect panelling!! and must mention that at no stage did I see anyone vacuum the carpets.

The restaurant on the 5th floor has wonderful views out over the lake, but the maitre'd has tight control over who gets to sit nearest the windows. Breakfast can be taken on the roof top. Food is generally excellent. We did a full week half-board and only had one dissappointment when the "Gala Dinner" on the Sunday evening appeared as Turkey, mash & gravy (no alternative choice!). Pasta dishes were all excellent and fish featured as a choice almost every evening.

staff are all reasonable - some more helpful & customer freindly than others.

The bar is a dead area - almost everyone goes to the cafes/bars on the other side of the square which is much livelier.

This older property has been nicely refurbished and is centrally located in Riva Del Garda.
We had booked a disabled friendly room and were greatly pleased with the one allocated.
The room was large and had a balcony with a great view of the lake, the bathroom was fine with easy access.
The restaurant is situated on the 5th floor and commands really stunning views of the lake to the south and the town and mountains beyond to the north, as the weather was great during our stay we took breakfast on the restaurant terrace which has a fantastic panorama from the lake in the south right round to the north and is directly above the Piazza Garibaldi.
The breakfast was buffet style and quite substantial with a great selection of breads and pastries, cooked meats, cereals, cheeses, fresh fruit salad, etc, etc.
Dinner consisted of Salad bar starter, a Pasta course (with soup and fruit juice alternatives), main course of fish and meat dishes and an excellent selection of Deserts to finish.
The hotel staff were extremely helpful and friendly.
Would I stay again - Absolutely, we have already booked for late September!
