“Still awesome, but....”

Still love this place. Because of the very helpful and friendly staff. They really make your stay even more enjoyable!
But after my last visits, some comments why I don't give a 5 star rating.
This time we had a room on the first floor. Room is very clean, and spacious, but you can almost hear every step the people above you take. Since the hotel is just a few years old I consider this as a major construction screw-up. Some isolation would have done the trick....
Furthermore we were in the hotel in May, This means that they haven't turned on the Airco system (which shouldn't be necessary according to the brochure (because of how the hotel was constructed)) So the room could become really hot (on the day of departure, at 6am the room was almost 25 degrees Celcius!!)
and last but not least, it's 2013! Wifi should be available in the whole hotel and surrounding area! Not only in the lobby...... And please, upgrade internet connection to more than 1 (!!) Mbps.

Will I come back? hell yeah! Because 4 star is till good enough for me, the beautiful garden and swimming pools, the enjoyable atmosphere and did I mention the friendly staff?

And 1 final remark for the sporting instructors. It should be FUN, so bring some magic to your instruction!! Smile!!

After a few nights elsewhere in Riva since this was full, we were lucky they had a last minute cancellation.
This hotel is not closest to the lake (10 minutes walk to city centre, 15 minutes walk to lake; but you can also get a bike), or doesn't have the nicest views.
However, rooms are clean and spacious, bathrooms are very clean, and breakfast buffet is very good for italian standards. This hotel has also nicest facilities in Riva. 3 pools, very good wellness centre and top notch fitness facilities. Tennis courts and a large playground for children. Personel s helpfull and friendly.
So no negative issues? Well, wifi is available but only in lobby. And prices go up and up. And imho they have reached their limit for this 4 star hotel. However, still 5 star raiting

Stayed with my husband the second weekend of September. Room and bathroom are big and clean, fitness facilities (3 swimming pools, tennis courts, gym) are impressive and the wellness center is beautiful. They offer the possibility to lock the bycicles. Staff is friendly.
We didn't have dinner at the hotel, but the breakfast choice was very huge.
It is within walking distance (10 minutes) from Riva del Garda center.
It was a pity that we could stay only for a weekend, but I for sure recommend it for active families or couples. I will return here for sure.

Came back here for 3rd time in 2 years. I love this hotel. Why? Staff is extremely friendly! hotel is clean, rooms are very nice and clean. Bathrooms are clean. Fitness and welness are IMPRESSIVE! Did I mention the staff is friendly? Swimming pools and tennis courts are in excellent condition. Drinks and lunch at terrace are very good and not expensive.
I enjoyed several aqua gym classes with the locals, O enjoyed swimming and sun bathing with the locals, as almost everything else!
It was also impressive to see the hotel manager helping if it was nessecary. Even cleaning the pool! Two tumbs up!!
No negative issues? Well, the dining room looks awefull, but it's clean! I didn;t like the diners very much, but that's personal (and hey, If you book full board, it won't cost you that much). TV had no movie channels (but hey, who's watching TV when you can sit at the Garda Lake).
ANd one other thing what is not mentioned in the brochure: The swimming pools, the welness and tennis courts are also open to the public! But as I stated before, I enjoyed this very much, in fact, I have now some good new friends in Riva because of this!

Room Tip: Ask for room tennis court site near swimming pool

Stayed here with my boyfriend in the last week of August. We would both highly recommend this hotel.

Good Points:
- New hotel
- Very clean hotel
- 3 swimming pools (2 outdoor, 1 indoor). The children largely seem to stay at one of the outdoor pools which we found great. Saying that, the children that were at the hotel were well behaved anyway.
- Sun loungers had bulit in shades - very handy for us Irish or even simply so that you could read a book without the sun glaring off the pages
- Each room had a balcony with 2 chairs / sunloungers
- Friendly staff - the hair dryer in our bathroom kept cutting out so the Receptionist gave us a "normal" hairdryer
- Good food. For breakfast you could boil your own eggs! Lunch was top quality. There is a bar open all day by the pools that serves pizza slices, sandwiches, fruit salad, etc., which is handy and still good quality even though it is all pre-prepared.
- Drink measures - Each time I ordered Bacardi, a (not small) glass was filled. I need say no more.
- View - lying by the pool, the mountains are just to the right of you, almost close enough to touch. Stunning.
- Renting Bikes - the hotel has bikes for free but these go early. However, there is a bike shop about 2mins walk away which gives a discount if you are from the hotel and you can rent mountain bikes for the day for about €14

Not so Good (I don't think I could say anything about the hotel is bad):
- Strict serving times at lunch - Says lunch finishes at 2, but you would need to arrive a good bit before that as we were told at 1.50 that they were not serving lunch anymore
- 20 min walk to town
- Hairdryer - girls, the hairdryer in the bathroom is one that cuts out when it gets hot and needs a few minutes to cool down before it will come back on again - very irritating (but as I said above, I was able to get a normal hairdryer from Reception when I complained)

I'm sure there is good points about this hotel that I've forgotten as there is so many. If I go back to Lake Garda, which I probably will, I would stay in this hotel again without a second thought.

We stayed at the hotel for 12 nights with our three kids and were happy to have found a hotel for active families. We had booked tennis courts every day and were very excited because the hotel land rooms looked beautiful, the kids loved the pools and outside playing area, the tennis courts were just outside and the fitness room and spa area were just what we were looking for to get a healthy mix of sport an relaxation.

Unfortunately, our son had a bad accident on hotel premises when he tried to open the ping pong table. The table was unsecured and fell on his foot. An awful flesh would and broken toe were the result, making us rush back and forth between the hotel and the hospital in Rovereto. He had to walk on crutches for weeks and needed serious treatment when we were back in Switzerland. These things happen and ithat is ok, but when it came to the point where we were asking the hotel to cover the costs that we incurred, things changed...

The hotel was not willing to reimburse any expenses we had. We are now 4 months down the line and after many unanswered emails from the hotel and sporadic excuses for the delay, we receive a letter from the hotel's insurance informing us that they have investigated and come to the clear conclusion that there was no fault on the hotel's side and that we therefore have to bear the costs ourselves. The hotel shares this view and tells us to get reimbursement in Switzerland.

We are not familiar with Italian law, but this is not how you should treat customers that spent a good amount of time and money at your hotel. It leaves us us with considerable expenses and our son with two deformed toes for the rest of his life... and a very bad aftertaste!

Sadly, we have to advise you to stay away from this hotel.

Dear Sir or Madame,

thank you very much for your comment. We’d like to deliver our opinion.

We are really sorry what happened to your son at our hotel. But our hotel is insured and we like to remember, that we contact our insurance directly after the accident happened, to clarify the situation and our position. After the inquest of this case the specialist explained us, that it was not our fault as well as, that the guests are not allowed to claim refund. We wish your son will get better after a certain time and he is feeling well.

Best regards from Riva del Garda.

My wife, grand daughter and I stayed in the hotel for one week on a half board basis during May 2009. We found the hotel to be located just out of the town centre and about twenty minutes stroll from the town centre and lake side. The walk to the town centre was on foot paths with a gentle down hill gradient. The return trip was not difficult and only a bit longer depending how many cafe's you visited in town. The town centre of Riva has many cafe / bars and a good selection of ice cream for the kids.

The Sporting Hotel would appear to be a new building which has used wood and fresh colours in the decor. The hotel generally has a modern feel with a fresh, bright and airey, non smoking atmosphere. Our room for three was a double room with a fold down double bed / sofa with enough room for four persons. The room was clean and bright with a shower room and seperate toilet. The room was cleaned daily and the bed linen changed every second day. We seemed to be given fresh towels every day without asking. Our room was on the first floor with a verranda looking over the tennis courts. We had a view of the surrounding mountains but could not see the lake. The landings and stair ways were all well lit with a lift if required.

Our stay was half board which allowed us breakfast and evening meal. Breakfast was continental fare with a wide selection of ham, bacon, cheese, fresh fruit and more. There was an endless supply of fresh coffee and herbal tea. No standard tea, bring your own tea bags. Half board evening meal was different every night with salad buffet each night. The menu gave a choice of three starters and three main course with one choice of sweet per night. The choice was a bit limited but we always found something to our taste and never left the table feeling hungary. The hotel did have a small mid day menu but this was very limited and required a walk into town for lunch or a visit to the local supermarket. The is not much in the way of cafe's or bars near to the hotel.

The hotel has three swimming pools. One heated and in doors with two outside and this includes the childrens pool. The pools were cleaned daily and were always in excellent condition but a bit chilly! There are three clay tennis courts which were in daily use.The hotel has a full gym which can be used by residents. The hotel also has a spa area with three sauna rooms at different temperatures, a steam room and cool area. The spa area is for over 18 only and is a naked area.

The staff are friendly and helpful and always made an effort to make our stay pleasent.

On the whole this hotel had many good points with only a few minor problems. One point we found was the hotel bar did not have perminent staff. If you require a drink from the bar, you will have to go and find a member of staff. The hotel also has a members sports club which allows non residents in to use the sport facilities. This does include swimming lessons and aqua fitness sessions in the pools. While these sessions are in progress, hotel residents can join in but, in real terms the pools cannot be used fully by residents while the lessons are in progress. These lessons occur during the day and at evening time which greatly reduces the time when hotel residents can swim.

The hotel would be suitable for wheel chair users with wide doors, level floors and lifts. The walk into town would also be suitable with footpaths, lowered kerbs at road crossing points but there are cobbled roads in the town.

On the whole this was a decent hotel which I would recommend and would visit again.
