“in one word: perfection!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 2, 2012

Everything is truly amazing at Ploerr! I wouldn't know where to start, so I'll let Tripadvisor criteria guide me! Service: Vigl family truly knows how to make guests feel welcome and at ease! food was always outstanding from breakfast to dinner. Also I am lactose intolerant and for every meal I had a lactose free choice (a scrumptious one!). Herbert, the host, knows everything there is to know about walks and trails and always recommended very good places to visit (with a special consideration for me being 8 months pregnant!). Value: very very very good! Sleep quality: if you are looking for the utmost peace and quiet Ploerr is for you. No noise whatsoever coming from either inside the hotel or the road! Cleanliness: both (just renovated) room and bathroom were spotless every day! Location: Ploerr is in a very secluded village (Auna di Sopra); the bigger villages of Collalbo and Soprabolzano can be easily reached both by car or on foot. Renon is perfect for scenic, accessible and beautiful walks.

Room Tip: Most rooms are south-facing. They all have balconies. We stayed in a west facing room, which meant s...

Our second visit, as perfect as the first. Perhaps even more so as the bedrooms and en-suites are now re-furbished. A 20 minute drive up a very windy road from Bolzano its simple, spotlessly clean and has wonderful views from the balconies. Ploerr is small, 11 rooms, still a working farm - father takes over the small bar most evenings - mother cooks and son Herbert manages the guesthouse and is chief interpreter (most other guests seem to be German/Italian.) But making yourself understood is not a problem, a few words and lots of mime work wonders. Breakfast is cold meats, cheese, an egg, local breads and preserves. 4 course dinner is excellently cooked by mother, no menu, but choice of two starters, salad course, main and dessert or cheese. Add a jug of local wine, what more could you want! Don't expect TV or radio etc in your room - there is a small TV in a corner of the dining room, but we like being away from the media for a while. Tuesday nights are special, the restaurant is closed and guests walk or are driven further up the hill to the Vigl moutain hut for an alfresco dinner - a truly wonderful evening. You can do a different walk or hike every day, Herbert knows and loves every one and suggests what would be good every morning. A drive. or gondola, to the Otzi The Iceman museum in Bolzano is a very worthwhile trip. Ploerr is unbelievably good value, all in all, perfect, thanks Herbert and family.

Room Tip: Front south facing rooms have the best view. May be a little too quiet for young children

Very nice rooms, very nice breakfast and dinner, the place is amazing and above all the hospitality of the owners. We highly recommended and we decided even though we have stayed in many places in dolomites that Berggasthof Ploerr will be the only one we will certainly go back again.

Set in the Alpine fresh region of the Dolomites, Ploerr is the perfect destination for those seeking a rural, picturesque retreat; characteristic of south Tyrol. The accommodation is clean and comfortable with delightful views and the staff friendly and polite. The food is tasty, plentiful and reasonably priced too. Above all though, is the exceptional service offered by Herbert (son of owner). He is cheerful and attentive offering useful tips on exploring the area and working hard to ensure the stay is both enjoyable and memorable. We arrived at Ploerr without one of our suitcases (airline mistake) that contained our diabetic son's insulin for the entire holiday. Herbert went beyond what is usual, contacted the local Dr and Pharmacist, at 10 pm, drove us to get emergency supplies AND made himself available to communicate with and direct the courier of the case the following day. He prevented a difficult situation becoming a disastrous one! We had a great stay there and would highly recommend Ploerr since it offers, in some way, more than a complete package. The warmth, kindness and personal touch displayed are rare, but exactly the ingredients needed for a special holiday. Three cheers to Ploerr and to Herbert !!!

We were looking for a nice Pension in the area where we have been a number of times before. Ploerr turned out to be just what we were looking for. The family Vigl made us feel at home and each day we had expert help finding our walks.
During this trip we stayed in five places and hiked over 190 miles. Ploerr was the best!
