“A very special place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2013

We spent 5 days here during a trip to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary. The hotel rooms were very comfortable, clean and with spectacular views out to sea. The family went out of their way to be friendly and helpful. Food was terrific with simple, local dishes and plenty of seafood.
We were very sad to leave, which says everything about the place and the hosts. The terraces and gardens were all beautifully presented and all the staff were consistently pleasant. We would go back in a heartbeat!

Room Tip: All the rooms have a wonderful view but those with a balcony add a very nice touch.

5 days in this lovely hotel with great baths in the sea, great food and great service with a local family. Ideally placed to discover the region by bus and foot. Rooms are very comfortable and the view is amazing.

The absolute ideal hotel that one could imagine on this magical coast. Built in 1952. Maintained as if it were built yesterday. On the lowest beach road is a small car park with the hotel name. Below there are about seven stories of hard-to-believe levels, each only one room deep of reception, gardens, decks, rooms, restaurant, rock swimming platform. There are no buses, no road noise. Every room faces the sea. Request a balcony. We did not have dinner there so cannot comment. Breakfast is simple but good, very pleasant presentation and spectacular place to have breakfast. Be aware that there is stair climbing to move around ( up and down ) the property. We recommend a car or hiring a driver to explore this area. Overall, we consider it a superb place for a holiday on the Amalfi Coast.

Room Tip: All rooms face the sea with great view. Request one with a walk out balcony

We spent 7 nights here in October and wished we could have stayed on. Even though the weather was not the best, it was such a relaxing place to put your feet up. The rooms are very comfortable and the terrace view is to die for. We were able to sit on our terrace with a glass of wine and catch up with the wifi. Lovely! The dinners were superb. We were a little unsure about having to eat there so many times, but it was perfect to come home to after a busy day out and about. Thank you to the amazing dedication of Nicola and Rosa, Emiliano, Antonio, and the room staff. The location is ideal and local transportation so easy to use. Take the bull by the horns and walk the Amalfi road, cliff side, into Amalfi via the tunnel - an experience! We will definitely return! Grazie!

Room Tip: There are MANY stairs and three levels of four rooms each. Save stairs and ask for the top level! Th...

We spent 4 nights at this lovely hotel and could easily have stayed for longer! The accommodation is located right by the sea, our rooms had balconies overlooking the water and it was easy to spend a few hours relaxing and taking in the views. You can swim off a platform and there are lots of sunbeds dotted around the different levels. The hotel is also in a great location to visit other wonderful places along the Amalfi coast. Amalfi itself is quite easy to walk to along the coastal road. Food was delicious, lovely coffee and croissants for breakfast. The owners were really welcoming and helpful. We would definitely go back.

With stunning views and lovely hosts why would you stay anywhere else. Idyllic views onto the Mediterranean and your own private access to the sea make this a very romantic place. The small number of rooms and the family style of service make this a very relaxing place to stay. It is a very short walk to Amalfi and the busses run right past the door.
The food was good and as the host was a coeliac they even cooked gluten free pasta for Val, great service.
Overall an excellent four day stay.

This review is for the restaurant only. We stayed at Villa San Michele's sister villa, Villa Scarpariello, and they recommended the restaurant at Villa San Michele. I am usually a little skeptical of "sister" hotels and recommendations--but in this case, the recommendation could not have been better. The restaurant at San Michele served the best food we had in Italy. It is the only restaurant we ate at twice, and my husband and I both wished that we had just eaten there our entire stay. The owners and staff are so warm and welcoming, the food outstanding. The food is exactly what you are looking for when you go to Italy. We spent two weeks travelling around Italy and this was by far our favorite restaurant. Eat here. You will not be disappointed.
