The Giordano has a fantastic location just a short walk from the very pretty and atmospheric main square in Ravello. If you have a hire car the hotel will meet you in the square and drive your car through the very narrow lanes to their shaded car park, best to leave it there during your stay and use the local bus service to Amalfi and ferries beyond to eg Positano which is well worth a visit.
We had a superior room with a lovely terrace and fine mountain views, this side of the hotel also benefitted from the sun. The room was fine with an adequate shower room.
Breakfast was very ordinary and served outdoors, which in September can be cool and windy. Disappointingly we arranged for an early breakfast as we were on a tour to Pompeii, despite us reminding reception, on arrival the staff in the breakfast room denied any knowledge, they did come up with a pot of tea and a few biscuits.
The reception staff were generally unhelpful and often hiding in the back office. The car parking guys were the exception to this.
We were on half board so ate dinner at the Villa Maria. The food was good but not exceptional and again eating outdoors in September half way up a mountain is not always a good idea. It takes about 5 mins walking uphill between the hotels and is not suitable for older guests.
Overall Ravello is a fantastic base to explore the coast and Pompeii and the town itself is charming and not too busy, at least compared with Amalfi and Positano! The Giordano could be so much better with closer attention to customer satisfaction.
