“Country charm meets modern comfort”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 24, 2013

I love the Italian countryside, but never feel quite comfortable in those hard beds and dusty furnishings. Casato Licitra is the perfect solution to this dilemma. The property gives you an authentic experience of the Sicilian countryside: cows, horses, sheep, cats -- the works. But the rooms, courtyard, reception area, and restaurant are restored in a very modern and design-savvy way. The bedrooms, bathrooms and showers are huge. Beds are amazing comfortable. Water pressure is great (so often a rural experience, sadly, means a trickle of water), with a nice shower head. Breakfast was amazing: we were there off season and it would have been so easy for them to skimp. But the proprietress (VERY nice) obviously got up very early to make fresh bread, two different types of homemade cake and freshly cut ripe fruit -- just for us. There were two powerful air con/heating units in the room. We used it for heating but I can imagine that it would be make the room a cool oasis in summer. The location is just outside of Ragusa, so all of the riches that southern Sicily has to offer are within reach. We live in Italy so didn't have a communication problem but the owner is so accessible and helpful I can't imagine having trouble even if we didn't speak Italian. It's hard for me to imagine the trouble that another reviewer had with the service because she was very attentive, checking in with us to make sure that we had everything we needed. I would definitely recommend it -- and the rate is more than fair.

Room Tip: Our friends' room was similar to ours. Not sure if there are "better" or "worse&q...

We enjoyed every day of our stay :).
The location is close to Ragusa city center and other attractions.
Also many other interesteing citys nearby to visite.
We enjoyed the pool, but did also spend nice days by bthe sea, only 30 minutes drive away.

We enjoyed our stay at Casato Licitra as a pleasant country experience. The staff are very friendly, unfortunately we do not speak Italian although we did ok with the google translator. Our room was big, clean and comfortable. The hotel was very quiet for our stay as it was the off season, I imagine it would be great in the summer with the pool. The horse-riding was great, a nice easy ride to the castle nearby. They operate a dog kennels onsite also and the barking is quite loud at times, although no problems with sleeping at all. We ate at the hotel restaurant and the food was fine. We would recommend it for a country break.

Casato Licitra was an absolutely lovely experience. It was a perfect get away, far from the chaos of Sicilian cities yet close enough to allow you to visit practically anywhere in the south. The staff were extremely helpful and were more than willing to accomodate every request that we had. The food is an experience of its own and the rooms were impeccable. Not to mention the pool...with complete privacy u'll have 360 views of the Sicilian countryside with romantic music and drinks by the pool.

Definately a must if you would like to enjoy Sicily!

What I would reccomend is to take horse-riding trousers and boots to be able to enjoy it even more.

A farm was turned into a 4* star hotel. It is truly unique and you would not expect such a hotel in the Sicilian province. The best of all is the restaurant La Terrazza: let the chef compose the menu for you: original Sicilian dishes, just wonderful. Are the any negative things: it is hard to find, so use the GPS data from the homepage (not yet on Google maps); turn on a tiny unpaved road at the big street sign.

A beautiful family-run hotel in a great location - just 20-30 mins drive to many great locations such as Ragusa Iblea and Ragusa Marina. We drove to Licitra, with our 6 month old baby and dog. It was SO EASY! We had a great room, with a cot for baby, and even a bed for the dog. There was also a kitchenette which came in so handy for preparing bottles etc. The car was safely parked on the premises, and so close by that we could leave stuff we didnt really need in the car.

The staff were friendly and accommodating.

There is one restaurant which is really good.

They also have a pool, overlooking the valley - which was great!

Would super recommend Licitra for families on holiday!

The staff here made me feel like an important part of their big happy family yet managed to maintain professionalism. They even helped me plan and book my forward trip to Rome which I think was way beyond their job description but they were very happy to help. As a solo female traveler I felt safe. The food was fantastic. They even took the trouble to really listen to how I prefer my coffee and went out of their way to ensure it was on the table as soon as I sat down for breakfast. My room was a beautifully renovated huge old barn. Nice people. The only hitch for me was that they did not have Wifi. I understand they do provide free internet access for laptops. I had a tablet which meant no access for me.

Room Tip: Try the room opposite reception!
