“Quiet, restful and happy to return”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 22, 2011

All in all we had a lovely honeymoon and we would be happy to stay at this hotel again. We stayed half board as a couple in late May into early June. Come on English we are needed at this hotel!! The staff like English (whether our manners play a part/tipping etc I'm not sure).
General note: DO NOT bother taking travellers cheques unless you will be visiting a city or large town as know-where will take them including this hotel/local banks/local travel agents. Usual ATM's in Pula if you only take small amount of cash though.
HOTEL:
Room-flatscreen tv, dressing table, large bed(very firm), good wardrobe space and area coat hangers. Bathroom small but clean, clean towels every day & blue beach towels included.
Beach-in front of the restaurant, very clean. Only very busy at weekends.
Pool-as lovely as the pictures
Noise-fantastically quiet (unless you have the normal ignorant noisy guests?)
Staff-very friendly, helpful, passionate most are fluent in English & for those who weren't speak a little plainer & slower. We gave Italian a go & all had a laugh when we got it wrong. Staff worked most days (amazing stamina!) but always appeared enthusiastic.
Tipping- at hotel, don't think it was necessary actually. We did 2-3 times a week of a few Euros & staff kept trying to say no (but as we were treated so well & they worked so hard it was easier to do).
Other guests-most were German and the others were Italian (all suprsingly friendly & a few said Hello during the day, so we tried our Guten Tag's). Staff said they liked practicing their English with us.
Entertainment-None
Kids-high chairs available, only one kiddies slide in their gardens.
Facilities-didn't take advantage of any but usuals available.
Breakfast in hotel-lovely spread. Cappuccino lovely in the morning! Go up & help yourself, but waiters nearby.
Lunch in restaurant-A La Carte menu €6 for plate of chips but heck it's a holiday.
Diner in restaurant-All freshly prepared, 4 courses (if you want cake).
Eating out-Never ate at Pula (town) during the evenings but think atmosphere with glass of wine would be great.
Weather-Rained one afternoon in whole 2wks we were there. Quite hot 3-5PM. Mid 20's most of the time, not many clouds.
Sight seeing-folder in hallway of hotel with lots of trips to go on. Local archaeological site Nora 10min walk away with restaurant close.
Towns-closest 40min walk Pula, local shops, restaurants etc.
Local supermarket-Be prepared this little shop shuts at either 1-1.30. Approx 15min walk.
Tuesdays-In Pula there is a local Market open for a few hours in the morning.
Siesta-2-5pm approx, most restaurants in town open all day.

Had a really first rate experience. Booked half board and arrived late in the evening and were provided with a good plate of cold meats and salads without having to ask. By and large that set the tone - the straff were helpful and attentive and the food kept on coming.
The location is on a lively sandy beach: the hotel has its own sunbeds right outside the restaurant verranda. The sea was clear, clean and warm.
The food was a bit repetetive at first but this improved (set meal of four courses with choice)
The location is excellent - 30 mins from the airport, within striking distance of a good road for exploring the region, on a great beach with others close enough (need a car though) and the Roman site of Nora 20 mins along the beach.
I dived and the boat picked me up from the beach (not the most exciting dive but great visibility) and the girls went horse riding.
There is a bus service in ot town but a car is advisable - it was 8 euros one way for a taxi. The town was lively in the evenings (high season). The hotel provided a crooner after dinner but it was a bit quiet after dark - take cards/games/books etc.
The rooms are a bit on the small side (especially the shower) and not totally sound proof but they were comfortable. Since the rooms are away from the beach none have sea views or balconies.
We all had a great and relaxing time!

We arrived at 1800 on Saturday 9th August for our last night in Sardinia. We had spent ages looking for somewhere and it was getting late. My boyfriend went in to check availability and came out having booked and paid for the room up front. He'd not wanted me to know how much as he was treating me and pretended it was much cheaper. It was in fact 200 euros to include breakfast.
We dived onto the beach and went back to the room number 221 at 1930. It was then I noticed the cheap shower with it's awful doors. The lights fused while I was in it and continued to go on and off while I was trying to get ready. Badly ventilated with the hairdryer in the shower/toilet. When will these places realise that it is impossible to dry hair in a humid bathroom. Eventually we were ready and we advised the lady at reception about the lights all fusing. On our return the air conditioning we realised was inadequate and the room on its highest setting was warm. Then as I put on the bedside lamp the lights all fused again. Twice the night porter came in with his torch and then the bar man. It was now 0045. We were unable to get another room and had to borrow a torch for the night. Getting ready for breakfast in the dark bathroom was a nightmare. As another reviewer said, there was no instructions as to where to go for breakfast and we ended up at the restaurant by the beach before coming back to the hotel. Naturally there was nobody on reception to advise us. After breakfast we were advised it had been due to the wiring on the bedside lighting.
The manager refused to come to the hotel to discuss our concerns, but advised we could have 20 euros refund. We told them that this was an insult and a room without lights would not even get a listing let alone graded with stars. However, there was nothing we could do at all, having paid up front. If anyone has any advice for me I'd be glad to hear it andreafc@talktalk.net

We were a little apprehensive about returning to the same resort and hotel for a second year. Needn't have worried we were greated with smiles, as they remembered us, which was the perfect start to a totally relaxed holiday. The food although good last year was even better, and using some of the local haunts for lunch we had some memorable dishes all cooked to order. The luxury of this hotel is in the service, the location, the wonderful garden and the best lobster pasta (cooked by the owner) eaten overlooking the bay of Nora, as the hotel has its own beachside restaurant. Thanks to all the staff, some lovely guests (all nationalities), our friends and some breathtaking scenery (hire a car for a few days) we could not have had a better holiday and shall return again one year.

The hotel has a strange mixture of strengths and weaknesses. Its location and general pool/beach/garden amenities are fine .
However, when we arrived, nobody offered to help these two 65 year olds with our bags or to show us to our room upstairs (no lift). In the room there is absolutely no information about the hotel, meal times/venues or facilities; you have to find that out for yourself ie breakfast is up some “hidden” stairs etc. Neither of the remote controllers for the TV worked and, although we asked twice for new batteries, none came; we gave up because we were not really bothered anyway. We asked for 2 extra pillows but nothing happened for 2 days until we asked a young Russian man on the desk and he sorted it out; the young lady didn’t seem to care. The rooms are clean, compact but “Spartan” – no pictures etc to soften the room. And then there is the shower room. This is really shocking for a 4 star hotel; it didn’t even reach 3 star standards. Measuring roughly 7 ½ ft by 4 ft, this contained a basin (no room really to put anything around it, no cupboard, no shelf), hairdryer, bidet, tiny shower, and toilet. It was hard to move around in comfort. The shower itself was tiny. If you dropped the soap and tried to bend down, you pushed the cheap plastic glazed panels out of their frames because they did not fit. The spray head was so small that the water coalesced into a single flow of water and it was like standing under a tap. If you went to the cheapest DIY store, I challenge you to find a shower enclosure as cheap as this. All the rooms are the same – or so we were told and other guests agreed. After every shower, the floor was covered in water because the plastic glazed panels were not secured into the frames. Finally, the chrome fittings in the bathroom are so old that the underlying brass is beginning to show through. Why they built it like this I do not know because the site is large enough to have made the rooms bigger. That said, all of our towels, including beach towels, were changed every day and this was a pleasant surprise.
The breakfasts, once you found where to go, and lunches at the a la carte beach restaurant were fine and it is a lovely setting. However, the food in the evening was very variable. Perhaps if I give you as an example our final evening meal it will be a fair representation of most evening meals. We started with “poached egg on French beans”. In fact it was a boiled egg sliced in two with a rather nice sauce on it but the beans had been boiled to death and were a mushy tasteless mess. From the 3 choices on each of the next 2 courses we chose the pasta and then the roast chicken and fried potatoes. The pasta, as always, was really good. However, the chicken was so overcooked and dry that it was like chewing sawdust. We could not eat it and, although we were offered something else, we declined and went out to eat locally. Now that was good and the wine cost a whole lot less for a far, far better bottle!
Finally, the price of drinks. If you want water at mealtimes they charge €4 for a bottle. Ridiculous! Their wine was of generally poor quality. The cheapest was by carafe and we noted that 90% of guests drank that but we found it rather unpleasant. On the wine list the cheapest wine was €23.00 but that was awful so we tried the next up at €27.00 and that was just tolerable. However, outside the hotel, we found good wine in restaurants at €12.00 - €15.00. This hotel is simply going too far in squeezing its guests and this feeling, along with the unacceptable bathrooms, spoilt our stay. If we had been able to have a B & B contract, then at least we would have had more freedom of choice rather than paying twice in the evening in order to have a satisfactory meal. Overall, we felt that, however pleasant most of the staff were, the management were squeezing everything out of a captive clientele and we did not feel valued.

We had a very enjoyable family holiday at Sant'Efis. Having stayed in many Sardinian hotels Sant'Efis is definatly up there with the best, regardless of it's 'off the beaten track' location. While it doesn't provide the luxury of hotels in the Costa Smerelda, it is very clean and comfortable. The pool area has been re-done in recent years (we have been going for a number of years now, and something new is added each year: the best, i feel, is yet to come!) and is now dellightful. Gorgeous gardens down to a lovely (if rather overcrowded in summer) beach. Minor drawbacks include rather thin and shabby cushions on the beach sunbeds (though these may have been changed for summer 06)The ones around the pool are spot on... and I'm a sunbed snob!
The bathrooms are also on the basic side, with unruly showers, however this I have come to expect from the majority of Sardinian hotels!
A major drawback (which i admit sounds minor if not experienced!) is the evening entertainment in the form of a female club singer and her keyboard player. No matter where you sit within the hotels grouunds from 6:30 (ish) they cannot be escaped...truly awful music! The upside is that they only appear in the height of summer...stay away then, if you can.
The food at the hotel istelf is ok, it could be a lot better having eaten many a time at other more basic Sardinian hotels. The food down at the beach restaurant is lovely, in a perfect setting: go here on a lunchtime (slightly pricey, but worth it).
We found it quite hard to get into Pula to eat using public transport, which meant someone always had to drive. We discovered some lovely little restaurants in the town itself.
We will definatly be going again, I may sound negative in parts but am a VERY picky holiday maker!

We arrived at this hotel by default as the hotel that we had booked did not have a room for us! However, this confusion did us an absolute favour as we had the most amazingly relaxed and enjoyable week.
As others have mentioned, the rooms are not particularly spacious, but are attractive and well furnished with lots of storage and a mini bar. The bathroom is small, but again well fitted apart from the shower which is tiny. But hey, who spends their holiday in the bathroom?
The whole hotel, is furnished in rattan, including the sun loungers which gives a really lovely effect. There seems to always be plenty of space around the pool and the private beach, only a few steps away is approached by a path through a park of shady palm trees. The beach is clean and vast, mostly unpopulated and the sea is clear blue and warm.
The continental breakfast offered is fresh and plentiful, the a la carte lunch, though on the pricey side offered in the beach restaurant is enough for two to share and the dinner served by candle light in the open [though under cover]is a gaumet's delight. All 5 courses, absolutely delicious! The number of staff is minimal, but they are very friendly and efficent with the owner on hand most times. The whole area is spotless, being cleaned practically all day. One week at the Sant Efis, was not enough - we have found "our place in the sun" and cant wait to go back.
