Beautiful hotel set in a 'picture post-card' bay. we have enjoyed our stay very much and would more than likely consider a return visit, probably with friends. We thank the Manager, Mr.Terranova and his very capable and courteous staff; Mrs. M.Mazzei, reception, the Maitre d'Hotel ,the waiters, the bagnini, the waitress at the beach restaurant and the room-maids for doing an excellent job and keeping a smiling face even when stressed by the daily rush.

We had some friends that had stayed at the Hotel Desiree in 2007 and recommended the hotel. After reading some of the reviews on here on tripadvisor.com we were a little worried.

Wow... we had absolutely no reason for concern. Daniel Terranova and his staff were great! I asked him today how long he had been at the hotel and the answer was four years and that much of the staff had been switched out since his arrival. We weren't here in 2007, but our friend that were said it was a different hotel and staff by comparison.

Our room was terrific, exactly as billed. The rooms at the end of the building have a view from the bathroom as well as the bedroom, a great surprise. The rooms were well appointed and had awesome views!

The beach was great, but as noted by others, make sure that your reservation includes the beach access. If you buy the discounted cheap room you may not get the reserved beach, so be sure at the time of your reservation.

The tennis court and pool as well as the kids play area looked awesome. The workout area is a small covered, but open building looking at the pool with a few machines...

The internet still has the odd 90 minute coupons. But the staff provided as many as I asked for. In fact we had a little problem with the login and when I went to the front desk I was greeted by the GM. Unlike other situations where I have pointed out a problem and was told it must be me or my computer, they looked at the problem and took action to correct it - and I can write the review.

We would come back. It was a great experience.

Room Tip: Get the breakfast included. There are a number of restaurants in the nearby city, but you'll nee...

Dear Dave, thank you for your kind words and just wish to clarify two things:
- the use of our private beach is always included in our room rates no matter what room category or rate plan you wish to enjoy;
- the internet 90 minute coupon limit is due to the fact that unfortunately on the island the max line we have is a 7MB which has to be shared among an average of 20/30 users at the time, but am sure you appreciate the fact that the WI-Fi is available everywhere around the property and rooms and most of all is complimentary.
Thank you again for being with us and please give my regards to your spuse and friends with the hope to welcoming you back in the nearest future.

We book via internet a deluxe room, the pictures and reviews were fine. At the end, we must say that it was one of the worst hotel stays ever. I am a frequent traveller, for business as well as leisure and use to stay in 4 and 5stars hotels. The room was nothing like in the pictures, very old furniture, badly decorated, small, but with a nice view. The evening food was terrible as it was on the mandatory half-board, so did eat once. The maid forgot the room unlocked, the reception staff made me pay for the morning newspaper as if the 450 eur per night for not sufficient - just lack of respect in my opinion. A 4star hotel, a maldives 5 star price and a good 2+ stars really. Be aware.

My two weeks at the Hotel Desiree have left an indelible memory: it was wonderful!
What was special? Not just the small bay, beautiful and cozy, but also the room, a luminous spotless “junior suite”, the food (excellent!), the aquagym, the Pilates training... and above all the people in the Hotel: everything was made with care, offered with a smile and special attention for YOU. Just perfect!

Nicely located in a small bay, the hotel offers you a clean beach that is shared with one other hotel. The swimming pool is large (salt water). Our hotel room was cleaned every day and the standard of cleaning was above average Italian, almost Swiss. The breakfast buffet offers you a selection of two fruit juices, several kinds of bread, jam, eggs, grilled sausages, fresh fruit and joghurt. a downside was the Dutch cheese and salami from mass production. We were not impressed by the food and service for dinner. The food was more or less okay but the service was absolutely insufficient. As a family with two kids and a sleeping baby in our room, we were always the first at the dinner table but among the last people to leave after dinner. Waiters only feel responsible for "their" tables and do not show a sign of interest for your desires if you are sitting outside their area. The senoir waiters are only there to take the orders, but do leave the staff alone once there are many people waiting for their food or drinks. This is the downside of the hotel. All other staff is friendly and concerned about your wishes. The tidiness and location are absolutely fine, so I would recommend to book for breakfast only and go to a restaurant in the evenings. If you want a good wine for your balcony, go to Casa del Vino in Marciano (only 800 meters away). They have an impressive selection up to the famous expensive Italian wines.

This was the worse hotel that I have ever had the misfortune of staying in. To list the problems of this hotel would require too much time and space, but I will list the most important ones:
1) In the summer you must pay for half board (bkfst and dinner). However, the food is terrible. The dinner is of the same quality and taste of a reheated frozen dinner from your local grocery store.
2) The staff is inconsiderate and downright rude. While the hotel has a private beach we were told by the lifeguard that we could not use the seats in the front row as they were reserve for 'guests who are stayig for longer than a week'. Therefore, even though these seats remained open we were relegated to the back row. The next day we took these seats without discussion and were rudely moved even further away as the lifeguard stated that 'those seats were not for us'.
3) We paid extra for a junior suite with outside access to the beach. However, the air conditioner did not work (this is July on an island) and we had to sleep with the door open to the beach for anyone to walk into our room that would like.
4) The hotel staff would only issue us WIFI access 90 minutes at a time. Therefore, whenever our time would run out we would have to go back to the desk and beg for more.
The list could go on and on and we only stayed in this hotel for four days......Stay anywhere but here....Elba is a beatiful island, just don't stay here!!!!!

I am astonished in reading your review which I also find unfair and untrue in certain issues, such as food quality (98% of our guests find it excellent/good based on the forms they filled in).

On other issues like air conditioning, I'm really sorry for the inconvenience, but you have never reported to our reception staff otherwise we could have fixed it for you and as far as WI Fi is concerned did you know that in your room you could also use the fast unlimited ADSL connection by plugging in into the socket? Did you read our Hotel directory? I hope you appreciated the fact the WI Fi was free of charge while most of the hotels do charge for it!!!

Finally and regarding the reservation at the beach it works in the same way as room reservation; the sooner the better and we also have to consider that lot of our customers are regular and they book a year in advance.

I deeply regret that you had such a bad overall impression and wished you aksed about me whilst your stay as it is our mission to provide the best service at all times and this is why we have a high percentage of regular guests (some of them are with us for 30/40 years).
Please, let me know if I can be of further assistance and accept my best regards.

I just wanted to say that we had a beautiful holiday in Hotel Desiree. Of course prices are a bit high, but we noticed that also the service offers high quality! I just now requested a new offer for our holiday in the middle of may.....let's see if we get an attractive offer and that we get the same room as last year :).
We are sure we will enjoy it a lot!

And maybe we do have the chance to meet the manager, Daniel Terranova, who is frequently answering questions and commenting on reviews here on tripadvisor. Compliments for it Mr. Terranova - that's how social media works!
