We rented an apartment in this quiet town for 2 weeks and could have stayed on!The town consists of a few grocery stores which stock the basics, 2 butchers, a fish shop, pharmacy and some souvenir shops. Most of the restaurants are in the local hotels and are quite upmarket. There is a small beach, Gavitella, about 400 steps down, with a bar/restaurant and umbrellas/sun beds for hire.Praiano is situated midway between Amalfi, a most charming small harbour town, with ferries to other ports along the coast, with the best ice cream we have ever eaten, and Positano, also a slightly larger port town, both popular tourist destinations,Both places have shops, restaurants and just so much to see, easily reached by bus from Praiano. From Amalfi possible to walk to Atrani, about 1 km distance, and a trip to Ravello is a must, a heritage town that just oozes charm. The highlight of this area must be Amalfi Drive itself, an engineering feat not to be seen any where in the world. The narrow road is a driving challenge for the bus drivers, and cars, for that matter as well. The beach of Praia, about 2 km from Praiano is on the level, with restaurants, which rent out sun beds and umbrellas.
This area is a must for sights not to be seen anywhere else.

If I had any idea how much beauty and majesty resided along the coast I might very well have stayed my entire near three weeks in one spot. As it turned out it was the last of four regions we had identified to travel around and I might say, we surely saved the best for last. Sun, water, small village, lovely friendly locals, great seafood and Pizza.
It is short on nightlife but a bus ride to Positano takes care of that and so much beauty just walking, 400 plus steps to the beach, touring Amalfi, Sorrento , lemoncello.
Oh I can see the glint of the sun on the water now.

Thank you to all the lovely wonderful locals, thank you for the warmth of your sun and hearts..

We recently returned from a two week stay in the Amalfi coast area. The small village of Praiano is the perfect hub to visit surrounding attractions. We rented an apartment for the duration.
Casa Misia overlooks the beautiful sea. If you want a peaceful vacation this is a wonderful location. Bear in mind that most of your travel in this village will be on foot, traversing many steps up and down. But, it is worth every step. Ahhh, Praiano. It is a short bus ride to Positano or Amalfi. One hour trip to Sorrento. We hope to return sometime in the near future.

A beautiful, brand new apartment, that we found through the Summer In Italy website. The view was spectacular, even better than in the photos. The manager was very helpful, and she provided drinks for us at our arrival, and assisted with parking. Praiano itself is gorgeous, with nice restaurants like La Brace.

Overall a great place.

We just spent a week in charming Praiano, between Positano (fabulous, but overrun with tourists) and the town of Amalfi (also wonderful, but again very touristy). Praiano was much more mellow and we felt like locals: visiting the neighborhood market, churches, restaurants. We stayed in Villa Giampa through Summer-in-Italy. This villa is GORGEOUS!!!! It is supplied with everything you need for a comfortable stay. Tons of room for our group of 10 -- every amenity. The terraces are absolutely fabulous -- we couldn't get enough of the expansive panorama of the Mediterranean Sea and the Amalfi Coast from the top terrace. In fact, my son and his bride were married there in a symbolic wedding. What an event! If you want to spend some time living in a dream, rent Villa Giampa in Praiano.
