The big take-away from this trip is "Listen to Suela [the hotel owner] when she offers a suggestion for how to do something." She knows what she's talking about. We regretted the one time we didn't do that.
Also, make sure you have their phone number in your phone if you're taking the bus, so you can call them to pick you up when you get off in the town center. If you can't call them for some reason, there's a bar right there (Sibilla Bar) and for 1 Euro they'll call the hotel for you. Do this, it's worth it. The walk up the hill to the hotel is difficult when you've just flown across the ocean.
For us, this property was perfect. Completely clean rooms, modern plumbing that worked perfectly (we tend to be cursed with plumbing problems when we travel, this time, not one problem the entire week we were there). It was located in a quiet part of the Amalfi coast, but a comparatively short bus ride to either Positano or Amalfi for sight seeing (or night life, if we'd been inclined that way). There were an amazing number of fantastic restaurants in this small town, and we were able to eat every night in town without having to repeat if we didn't want to. So the location for the hotel was wonderful.
The staff were kind, prompt, warm, and easy to converse with. They were patient with our fumbling attempts at Italian, but they could all speak some English, enough for our needs and to get around. They were very kind in response to some rather rude people that were staying there, as well. I thought they handled a few situations I witnessed with grace and good humor.
The restaurant in the hotel is OUTSTANDING. By far the best service and running a close second on the food (I liked the food at another place just a bit more). Breakfast, which comes with the room, was amazing. A large array of options, and they will prepare eggs to order for you, if you want. Plus, they have hot chocolate or fresh squeezed orange juice that they'll bring when you sit down! The morning after our arrival, we slept so late we were sure we'd missed breakfast, then they called to ask if we were coming down and said they'd hold it for us so we could eat. Brilliant.
The pool was chilly but it did rain for two days when we first arrived, so I expected that. It was refreshing after lying in the hot sun. The car they use to drive folks around was clean and comfortable with plenty of room. They were safe drivers (in a difficult driving situation) and I never felt uncomfortable riding with any of the staff. Getting rides up or down the hill or to the beach was absolutely no problem at all. They made it easy and comfortable for us.
When we go back, we will return to this hotel. Again and again.
Our garden view room was perfectly lovely, and we had access to terraces with an ocean view. So if...
