The Hotel Holiday is a nice clean little hotel in a good location in Praiano.
The beach is a 10-12 minute walk, but the bus stop to Positano is right outside the front door.
The best thing about the Hotel Holiday is the stunning view from the room, but I would think all Praiano hotels have that.
Another great thing about the hotel is a helpful young man named Angelo, who works at the hotel and speaks VERY good English. Our bus dropped us off in a weird spot, so we called the hotel and Angelo came to get us in 5 minutes. He gave a us a quick little tour of the town and lots of info about getting around.
Another great thing about this hotel is that is VERY QUIET. It's away from the more touristy cities like Positano and Amalfi, but still close enough to be a quick 15 minute bus ride. We never had a problem getting to Positano and back. The bus was 1.30 euro each way. (The hotel provides you with all schedules)
Our room was the room with the cirlcular bed, and bathroom with no door and no divider between the shower and the toilet & bidet (Americans don't use bidets, I don't even know how). The round bed was actually really comfortable, but the bathroom situation could have been better. The shower head was maybe a foot away from the toilet, so when you shower, the whole bathroom area gets wet. When we asked for a couple extra towels so we could lay them on the floor in case we wanted to go to the bathroom after a shower and not get our feet wet, they looked at us like we were crazy. This wasn't a big deal, but it was the first time we'd ever seen that. Maybe it's an Italian thing. We thought about switching rooms, but our balcony was the biggest and most private, so we stayed. It wasn't a problem after we got the extra towels. We enjoyed the room.
The free breakfast isn't anything fancy, but was a nice continental breakfast. There was a selection of ham and cheeses, with breads, pastries, all kinds of spreads (jams, nutella, butter, etc), and a nice little selection of fruits. There was also fresh orange juice and milk & cereal.
The room had a 19 inch TV with Italian cable, a safe, a stocked beverage fridge and a modern tub. Now that I think of it, I should have showered with the hand held thing in the tub rather than next to the toilet! The balcony had two VERY comfortable lounge chairs and a little side table, perfect for sipping wine (or our favorite... MELONCELLO) while looking out at the AMAZING view.
Overall: If you're looking for luxury, this isn't your place. But if you're looking for an affordable, clean, convenient little hotel outside of the major tourist cities of Positano and Amalfi, Hotel Holiday is great. I was going to give it 3 stars, but we had a really good time, and for Italy, I feel this was a good hotel. Hotel Holiday was very clean, provided free wifi, free breakfast, and gave us advice on getting around the Amalfi Coast, so I would feel bad giving it only an average rating. Not all hotels in the USA give free wifi and breakfast, so that kinda evens the playing field.
If you're looking for a clean, safe, place to sleep while you go explore the Amalfi Coast region, Hotel Holiday is a GREAT CHOICE.
