“A dining experience!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2013 via mobile

Like previous reviewers, we can't say enough about Gennaro and his passion for his restaurant. You don't know what to expect when you are greeted with, "just so you know, I'm just a wine bar". Just a tease. So much more. One of our favorite meals in Italy. As a side note, if you enjoy this type of dining, try Machiavelli Club in Rome. Same passion. They must be brothers! Reservations are a must at the "club".

“The Best”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2013

We read about Vivaro on TA and were so excited to try it. We weren't able to get reservations the first night and had to wait until the next night to eat there. It was well worth the wait! When we made reservations, the owner did remind us that it is a wine bar, not a restaurant...

It's a tiny place and just perfect! There are only a few tables in the whole place which makes it intimate. We chatted with most all of the other guests while we were there.

It is just as all the other reviewers say: "pick one: meat or fish, red or white" The other question we got was "are you still hungry??" When we answered yes, we were given two pasta dishes, one with meat and one with fish-they were both amazing-this was after the best fish-sea bass, I think--and one of the best steaks my husband has ever had. It was enormous!

We loved, loved, loved this place and would fly to Praiano just to eat there if it was remotely feasible!

Please try it, you won't be disappointed!

“A Fabulous, unique night in Paraino”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 5, 2013

We are a group of six traveling together, and discovered Vivaro through Tripadvisor. Not only was the food the best we had in Praiano, the atmosphere and Gennaro himself made our evening perfect. He is a master chef with a warm and welcoming personality, turning this small room of strangers into a party of happy guests. Make a reservation!

“Unique dining experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 3, 2013

Don't come here expecting the usual restaurant experience. It is far far better than that. We went twice (Monday and Thursday) and both times the food was fantastic. The Monday was the better night because it was less busy and Genarro was able to spend more time with the guests. I have never dined anywhere with such an amazing atmosphere. All the people at the tables were talking to each other, laughing and joking and at one point all the men from all the tables were crowded into the tiny kitchen watching Genarro cook pasta. I had the fish and my husband had the meat (only fish, meat and/or pasta). My fish turned out to be the best seabass fillet I have ever had served with a very simple small salad. My husband had the largest steak I have ever seen outside of the USA. We then had a small bowl of the best seafood pasta I have ever had (which was why the men were all in the kitchen watching how he made it). The wine was also perfect. It was simply a divine experience that will probably and very sadly never be repeated.

“Something different, very special place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 28, 2013

This is a tiny comfortable restaurant in which Gennaro the chef, owner and waiter is welcoming and an amazing host. You just need to answer two questions, red or white? Fish or meat? And your meal will be delicious. We had fish: white fish with herbs and lemon, seafood pasta and dessert and cheese platter. The cost was about 60 euro for two! It's a wine bar with a difference. Do go!
