“Something different, very special place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 28, 2013

This is a tiny comfortable restaurant in which Gennaro the chef, owner and waiter is welcoming and an amazing host. You just need to answer two questions, red or white? Fish or meat? And your meal will be delicious. We had fish: white fish with herbs and lemon, seafood pasta and dessert and cheese platter. The cost was about 60 euro for two! It's a wine bar with a difference. Do go!

“Best Meal in 16 Days of Italy”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 28, 2013

We were in Praiano in September 2013 and went to Vivaro Bar based on Tripadvisor Reviews and the reviews of a couple at the beach. We were not disappointed!! Everything was amazing!! It was the best meal that we had while in Italy...and possibly the best meal out at a restaurant that I have ever had! Gennaro is amazing and even though he works the restaurant completely by himself, he manages to find the time to talk to everyone, while preparing all of the dishes. The meal was so good that we went back for our last night in Italy. Can't wait to return!!

“The incredible Genarro!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 26, 2013 via mobile

We tried to call and email but couldn't get through to make a reservation. We decided to turn up early, 645pm, and see if we could get a table. We got the usual "you know I am only a wine bar". Yes yes" we said. And then it begins!! Wine and more wine (an excellent Rose from a relatives local winery) and the food absolutely incredible. We went with the fish option. First course was a beautiful white fleshy fish with porcini mushrooms, followed by a sesame crusted tuna salad and then when we couldn't fit another thing in a delightful shellfish linguine! Genarro effortlessly moves between tables delivering meals, clearing plates, dropping off more wine and then back into the kitchen to prepare more tasty dishes for the waiting tables. Sure you can wait a little between courses but this is all part of the experience (and there was so much food we were happy to have some time to digest!). Biscuits and a shot of fennel liqueur for dessert rounds out a fantastic night. As there has been no menu we wonder what the bill may be and are pleasantly surprised its very very reasonable. Thanks Genarro for a wonderful dining experience.

“Loved this place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 24, 2013

Genarro is amazing. This place is a one man show. Genarro seated us, served the wine, took the order, cooked he food, served the food, and cleaned up. It was quite an experience and one I can't imagine I'd find anywhere else, except my own kitchen. The menu choices the day we were there was limited to meat or fish. And I mean 2 items. You could choose one or the other. All the fish orders got the same fish. All the meat was the same but we didn't know what kind of meat until it arrived. We had a beautiful and delicious steak. The food was prepared to perfection. This was a most unusual and pleasurable dining experience. Definite
Y give it a try. Vivaro is small so make a reservation. It was full every night we were there. Also, there is no sign outside. Stop in the far far ixia near the hotel for directions

“Great Dinner”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2013

My wife and I walked into Praiano on our 2 nd night of 3, to Vivaro and arrived around 6:45 pm and Vivaro was just opening. The owner was there with a friend and when we inquired about getting a seating for dinner, he responded that we couldn't that night and this was really a wine bar and not a restaurant. We said we knew it was a wine bar and asked about the following night and he asked the time - we said 7 pm (yes, very early I know) and he took our name. The next night we arrived just before 7 and we were the first there, and we got seated by the door. Gennaro arrived with a bottle of cold water and asked what we were interested in. We asked for a nice red. He then asked what we would be interested in having to eat, fish or meat. When we said meat, he asked if lamb would be alright. We each ended up ordering the lamb and when it arrived, there were 4 chops stacked one upon another accompanied by a fantastic salad with a dressing that was truly memorable. The lamb was so tender and juicy and had been cooked with garlic and ???. We both loved it. When we were finished, he stopped at the table and asked if we would be interested in some pasta and we both said yes. At this point we asked for another bottle of red wine - a different kind, and like the first, it was great. When we tasted the pasta dish, we both looked at each other and said how great it was. It had spiced meat (sausage meat balls??) and a creamy sauce. Truly wonderful. After a while we were presented wtih a bowl of fresh grapes for dessert, and then came a mixed plate of cookie type pastries. Like others have posted, there is not a menu, so pricing is a mystery until you settle your bill. Our all inclusive bill was 30E each for the water, 2 main courses (lamb, then pasta), the grapes and cookie pastries, and each bottle of wine was 16E. Our best dinner evening of 7 nights lasted about 3 hours. The wine bar, come restaurant was 90% full at it's busiest point and can only accomodate around 20-22 people. We would definitely go back.
