My daughter and I were fortunate enough to take a cooking class from the amazing Mary Lou at this very special restaurant in March of 2012. This was arranged by Cooking Vacations. We stayed at the Villa Franca and were met by Paolo from Il Ritrovo every morning and squired to the restaurant where we created simply divine pasta, vegetables and desserts under the gentle, warm and happy tutelage of Mary Lou.
The head chef was in Brazil at the time of our visit so we lucky enough to be gifted with Mary Lou, who we remember fondly and always think of when we are recreating her dishes.
Everything that they serve comes from their garden or someone locally. The beautiful bunches of herbs and tomatoes hanging from the rafters created a fabulous atmosphere for the cooks and the diners. Clean, clear flavors that sing on your tongue.
Paolo and Mary Lou made us feel as if we were their family visiting from the states.
We will go back to see them I am certain. Please go and find this incredible spot and taste for your selves!
If you go for lunch and you meet Paolo, he might be willing to take you on a little stroll to look for mushrooms along the trail through the hills.....
