“Great Meal in a Family Setting”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 23, 2013

My family just finished a great meal at Il Ritrovo and it feels like we just ate in an Italian family's house. From the moment the free bus came to pick us up at our hotel to the time we talked to the owner about the black and white photo of his parents on the wall, we felt less like tourists and more like guests at their home.

This restaurant was recommended to us by one of our picky friends and now we know why. The food was excellent and the prices were reasonable. We could eat in the italian style with a first course pasta dish, second course meat dish, and dessert without worrying about how much all of this was going to cost. The price averaged 30 euros for each for us. The pastries and cookies were all handmade in the restaurant. They brought us a plate of cookies in addition to the desserts were ordered.

My family enjoyed our meal there immensely and are thinking about going back tomorrow. Enjoy!

“One of the best dinners of my life!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 11, 2013

Il Ritrovo was recommended to us by our host at B&B Le Ghiande in Montepertuso, and my husband and I are SO happy that we took his advice! Immaculate service and exquisite food, all in a stunning location. VERY highly recommended for anyone traveling to Positano!

“Amazing experience... twice!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 7, 2013

My girlfriend and I just returned from a one week trip to Positano and we ate at so many wonderful places. As for Il Ritrovo, one word sums up this restaurant, the food, the staff, the atmosphere and the experience... Amazing!
From the moment we stepped foot into this charming trattoria, we were treated like family. The kindness and the attentiveness of the entire staff was incredible. As there were so many choices on the menu that peaked our interest, we asked our waiter, Paolo, if he would mind choosing our dinner options for the evening. It was the best decision we could have ever made.
The house red wine was a great accompaniment to everything that was about to be served. A classic antipasto plate of local cheeses and cured meats along with some tomatoes fresh from the onsite garden. The seafood platter that followed was an incredible assortment of mussels and tiny clams, grilled octopus, shrimp, thin-sliced fish fillets, marinated anchovies and more vegetables from their garden. Outstanding bursts of flavor in every bite. So fresh. So delicious.
But wait! There's more! The prior plates were simply "the starters," and now for Round 2!
More mussels and tiny clams, prepared in a totally different manner, with stewed tomatoes, garlic and who-knows-what. It is hard to describe how delicious this was. I don't know what they did to prep/cook the tiny clams, but they were probably the best thing we ate during our entire trip to the region. But I digress... Pasta! Yes, pasta! Large, perfectly al-dente cooked noodles rolled into tubes smothered in mushrooms, shrimp, a creamy sauce and fresh herbs. WOW! Oh... and did I mention pasta? More! Large, cheese-filled pillows of delicious ravioli with a tomatoey sauce and fresh parsley and basil AND more large pasta tubes with eggplant, tomatoes, crumbled cheese and herbs. All accompanied with more wine, water and bread, of course.
We didn't have enough room in our bellies, so we opted to pass on the homemade options that were presented on a table directly adjacent to the table at which we sat. But then... the limoncello. Homemade liqueur of regional greatness. Upon commenting how delicious the limoncello, our incredibly personable waiter #2, Patrick, appeared moments later with four more types of liqueur for us to try, all homemade by the chef. Limoncello1, limoncello2, limon cream liqueur and one of a licorice decent (not Sambuca... rather some homemade elixir that was nearly black in color and reminded me of biting into hard, black licorice candies as a kid... only this time adult style in a glass with a "kick"). All this, THEN the Sambuca!

I have previously mentioned two of the staff, Paolo and Patrick. But there are more people to talk about, as it is the people at this establishment that are just as important as the food.

Paolo is the waiter that first greeted us and he is one of two brothers that continues to run the restaurant which their parents opened many years prior. The parents still live above the restaurant but now allow their sons to create, cook and serve the fantastic menu and serve the people. Paolo is a sweet, genuine soul and attentive and caring to every portion of the Il Ritrovo experience.
Patrick is a lively, chatty and most interesting individual, versed in many topics of the world and provides a wonderfully entertaining aspect to the dining experience. We learned much about Patrick during out dining experience, just as much as he learned about us, because this is the type of person he is. Patrick is one to quickly open up and share of himself and has the innate ability to create a comfortable atmosphere which permits others to comfortably open up and share as well. At times we found ourselves laughing so much with Patrick we had tears running down our faces. This all adding to our incredibly memorable experience.
Patrick's son, Ricardo, helps out in the kitchen. Not significantly versed in the English language, he aptly came out of the kitchen to say hello to us and share his kindness and respectful demeanor.
The master of the kitchen, Chef Salvatore (Paolo's brother) beams with both confidence and happiness behind the glass-walled kitchen we all can see. Creating dishes of distinction, deliciousness and rightful presentation, he is the heart of the restaurant which satisfies one's palate and belly. And don't let his concentration in the kitchen fool you into thinking he is all work and no play. His smile alerts you to his inner character and I believe he enjoys the experience in the kitchen as much as we enjoying having him there.

Let me not forget to mention that the restaurant arranged to pick us up and drop us back off at the place we were staying. Did you get that? We were in Positano centro, at the bottom of the mountain, and they sent a driver to pick us up and bring us to the restaurant which sits high atop the mountain. Then, after dinner, Patrick drove us back to our villa. All this for no extra fee. That is service!
I noticed in a previous post someone had mentioned the amount of time it took for their meal to be served, etc.. Even as this was our first trip to Italy, we knew in advance, and welcomed, that meals take a long time in this country. That the food experience is enjoyed over time, with wine, good food, good conversation and making good friends in the process. Our first night at Il Ritrovo found us enjoying the entire 4 hour experience. Yes... 4 hours! Worth every moment and I wouldn't change it for the world. We were the last people in the restaurant late in the evening, when the entire staff, Chef Salvatore, Paolo, Patrick, Ricardo and the others, all joined us in the dining room for drinks, conversation and laughter. Amazing!
We enjoyed our experience so much at Il Ritrovo, we returned to repeat the experience two days later. We again shared the most delicious wine, food, hospitality as we did during our first visit.
Kathy and I feel that not only did we have the most fortunate opportunity to experience some of the most wonderful food we have ever tasted in our lives, but we have also made some lasting memories with our new friends from Il Ritrovo.

Thank you Salvatore, Paolo, Patrick and the entire Il Ritrovo family!

“Dinner in Positano”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 7, 2013

Our last meal was here. What an excellent choice. Fantastic brothers run this restaurant expertly. We had our dinner family style and it was great. Totally worth the ride up mountain.
