We were very happy to have stayed at the Albergo California in Positano, our room was very basic but our view of the town was spectacular. It reminded me of the movie under the tuscan sun. The bathrooms had been newly renovated and the most modern out of the 4 hotels we stayed in during our stay in Italy. The owners especially Maria were very welcoming and friendly. My daughter and I went to the beach during our stay and loved our time sitting in the sun and swimming in the sea. The restaurants are reasonably priced and everything we ate was delicious and very fresh. If you are looking for a clean place to sleep at a reasonable rate this is the hotel for you.

This hotel is beautiful. The rooms are spacious and bright. The theme of our Italy trip seemed to be "room switch-a-roo" Every hotel we stayed in put us in a different hotel room then the we booked for various reasons. We were told here that the person in our room was "sick" and couldn't leave. The next night we were moved to the room we booked. It was the one the movie Under the Tuscan Sun was filmed at. Amazing room. The staff is very nice, however they can be like used car salesmen trying to sell you a boat trip. I said no thanks a total of 9 times during a 3 days stay. It made me a bit uncomfortable but other than that we had a great time. This hotel is close enough to walk to the bus stop.

My husband and I went to Positano for one night, but ended up staying longer thanks to Maria and the "family" of wonderful staffers. The hotel is quaint, but our "Under the Tuscan Sun" room was large with a view from the balcony that stays with you for a lifetime. It was very clean and obvious that it is managed with pride. Maria is amazing, as is Antonio. They were always available to answer questions and to make suggestions for places to see and things to do. Ask Maria to send you to dinner with Pepe and his family high in the cliffs of Positano...you won't regret being guests of these gracious hosts!

We are planning to take our children back with us next time. I will stay at the Hotel California again if it is available...wonderful property at a reasonable price!

Amazing location with the BEST views! The stairs are an awesome cardio workout. I liked the location on our side of the hill as opposed to the other side. Maria was just the loveliest host ever - made us feel VERY WELCOME! Room was very spacious, which was a nice treat after travelling in Paris and London. Clean and open rooms. Views from the balcony are just breathtaking. Breakfast was simple and the staff are very helpful. VERY GOOD VALUE FOR MONEY. Maria arranged for us to travel to a local restaraunt, a driver picked us up and dropped us off. I have heard some reviews complaining about this service, but we found the driver and the food to be such high quality and great value for money, it was such an amazing experience. Would reccommend all of my friends to stay here.

Breathtaking views each day! We were in awe of what we saw from our balcony! Rooms are very clean and basic amenities. The hospitality is what makes this hotel even more special. Maria and her family took care of all excursions, dinner reservations and general recommendations for everything we wanted to do. For a tourist destination I was impressed by the fact that they didn't take advantage of the guests. Minibar prices were similar to going to the corner store and the house wine available on the terrace was 1.50 E. You cannot beat that! I would absolutely go back and have recommended this location to many of my family and friends already. We could not have been happier to stay at the Hotel California and super sad to leave.

This is the place to stay for couples and friends who want a perfect location/views and superb service. There are other hotels that offer plush interiors, etc but that is definitely not the goal of being in Positano! You want to be outside enjoying all of the beauty and food!

Room Tip: All rooms face the water, so views would be similar. Ask for the 2nd floor if you want to be private...

We stayed at the Hotel California in Positano for 5 nights. It was so great to have a balcony view of the bay and so easy to get to everything. The walk to the beach was very nice through the quaint little streets. The boats run to Amalfi, Sorrento, and Capri. The buses are easy and close to the hotel. We had a great room and Maria and her granddaughter were very nice. The wifi was good and made it easy to get email and use trip advisor for restaurants etc. Great value for the cost.
