“Is Paradise a real place?”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 11, 2014

JUST STAY HERE. Having travelled the world and stayed at many luxurious hotels before, I can comfortably guarantee that the Villa Tre Ville is hands-down the best in Positano and surrounding areas, and also one of the best in the world. My boyfriend and I had the most romantic stay there and fell even more in love -- with each other and with this special place.

To start, the Villa Tre Ville transcends all hotels -- this is no mere "hotel" but felt like we were staying at a friend's private villa. It was, in fact, the former mega villa of legendary theater director/producer Franco Zeffirelli, so it certainly has style and panache. Many celebrities have stayed here, past and present; Kate Moss was a recent guest of Tre Ville and loved it so much she stayed for two weeks.

On your holiday you can truly relax -- unlike at normal hotels, here you won't see constant bills being thrust in your face after each and every meal, poolside drink, snack, equipment hire or gym access; at Tre Ville you are free to roam, use the facilities and be served all day, whatever you may desire.

The restaurant is a fantastic outdoor terrace under the cool green shade of flowering vines, dramatically overlooking the deep blue sea and the town of Positano to the north. The gorgeous kitchen opens out to this terrace; you can watch the chefs cook your meals with the freshest produce, and there a table is laden with fresh fruit which you may help yourself to all day.

There are no menus here; there are daily specials and simply state your preference (salads, pasta, fish, shellfish, meat) and the chef will cook up southern Italian specialities. A few of the dishes I had during my stay, all phenomenal: a classic spaghetti vongole (clams), real buffalo mozzarella with huge tomatoes straight from their own garden, local red prawns in herby breadcrumbs grilled on lemon leaf, ricotta ravioli, grilled red snapper, chicken milanese, tagliata (grilled beef steak), fantastic spaghetti bolognese, parma ham with prosciutto, and a fresh octopus salad.

The rooms -- I toured a few and each are differently designed to have their own unique character. However they all share in the Villa Tre Ville aesthetic: a colourful mixture of beautiful ceramic tiles, beautiful fabrics, quirky antique furniture and fine art pieces, all the while exuding a cool, clean calmness. The amenities (shower and bath gels, soap) are all by fabulous Aromatherapy Associates -- what a spa treat!

The hotel has 18 rooms, all usually booked out and yet we hardly saw many guests during our stay so it felt very private and intimate. This is due to the large size of the property and lots of freedom to roam its many areas on different terraced levels: the small pool overlooking the ocean; the wonderful herb garden with lemon trees and tomato farm; the chicken coop (fresh eggs!); the breathtaking lounge (an all-white, Moroccon themed lounge which open out to yet another outdoor terrace); the charming library; the outdoor gym; and the private beach.

The staff are kind, thoughtful, caring and always cheerful; they know your name and treat you like family, but are always highly professional. They also organized a last-minute trip to Naples and Pompeii; within 20 minutes I had a car and a Pompeii tour guide booked for the whole day.

Anyway, what more can I say but... JUST STAY HERE. You'll be spoiled for life after this, but god, is it worth it.

We had a short stay here, after changing our plans to visit Positano. It is an amazing hotel. The property is beautiful, has character, and the room was beyond expectations. We had a duluxe room and it was larger and nicer than suites we stayed in at other properties in Italy.

The staff was friendly, helpful and very responsive.

Best breakfast out of the 5 hotels we stayed at in Italy
.
One my favorite hotels I've stayed at anywhere - worth every penny.

I would have liked the hotel's water taxi to run later than 7pm to Positano as that seems too early for it to stop.

We stayed here for 5 days and did not want to leave. This is truly a privileged property, with an excellent location just in the outskirts of Positano featuring the most gorgeous views of the town. Villa Tre Ville inspires peace and tranquility, while providing luxury in a very subtle way. The rooms are spacious and very comfortable, and ours had the most amazing views. The staff is incredibly friendly and attentive. The private beach is worth a million bucks. We feel blessed with the opportunity of having stayed here.

When planning our trip to the Amalfi Coast we had taken the recommendation of a friend and booked Villa Tre Ville. Not only was this a great choice, but upon arrival it exceeded all expectations. Upon arrival at the Front, we were introduced to an extremely friendly and accommodating staff (Antonio, Annalisa and others) while gazing at Positano through what appeared to be a live postcard. Our bags were not a concern as we were whisked away by Silvia and Ferdinando through the “tunnel” to your kitchen/restaurant (Club Lounge) followed by a wonderful dining room, terrace, and sitting areas. We were not really concerned about even seeing our rooms while the staff provided a glass of Prosecco to begin the stay. As we sipped our Prosecco and took in the beautiful views of Positano and coast, we were guided down to the Maria Callas and Tosca Suites. On the way, we passed several beautiful suites and then made a stop at the self-service bar (Salone Bianco). We enjoy more than a few evening cocktails and opportunities to take in the views on yet another terrace. We then made our way to the rooms and found out that not only do we have two wonderful rooms but the entire lower level. This included a private pool, three outdoor sitting areas, a private walkway to the rest of the gardens, beach access, fitness area, and second tunnel back to the lounge. If you are looking for a carefree, relaxing, comfortable stay on the Amalfi Coast, there is no other place to consider. This truly is your home away from home with a staff that will accommodate your every need.

Our morning breakfast started with a warm welcome of “Buongiorno” from Sylvia and a staff that is there for your every need. Whether we spent our day relaxing at the resort or exploring Positano, Ravello, Amalfi, or Capri when we returned home to Villa Tre Ville we were always greeted by a cheerful and attentive staff in Rosy and Giuseppe awaiting our return at the Club Lounge. Since there is no menu, you can simply listen to suggestions from Giuseppe or make a special request. The food was always exceptional whether it was the fresh seafood, pasta, vegetables picked from the gardens, or even just a mid-afternoon snack.

By the second day, the Villa Tre Villa staff is your family. They are there for you, asking about your day, and really getting to know what you like so that every need is attended to during your stay. This is truly a special place and while there are other options, you would never consider another after you experience the luxury, intimacy, relaxation of Villa Tre Ville.

Where to begin? We came here for our honeymoon. Simply put, I do not think I have ever stayed in a more perfect place / hotel. In fact 'hotel' is the wrong word. It is not like a hotel.... It's like a private house. We had plans to go and see Pompeii/Herculaneum/Ravello but the Villa is just too wonderful to leave. Not only does it have the finest views in Positano, It also has the best food. Seriously the best. We went to La Sponda at La Sireneuse... Don't bother. It was fine, but only fine. Treville knocks it for six. Service, Food, Wine.... the lot. The rooms are AMAZING.... each one with its own very special character and design. We stayed in Nijinsky and I could not recommend it higher. Most afternoons were spent down on the rocks sunbathing and swimming, with the odd trip into town on the boat. No finer way to enter and leave Positano than by boat.

I could go on and on. The staff are just brilliant... so friendly and attentive... In fact, like 'hotel' i think 'staff' is the wrong word... it just doesn't quite feel like that...and that's amazing .

Suffice to say that, like many people before me, I can safely say that Villa Tre Ville is one of the most wonderful places I have ever stayed in, and am ever likely to.

Thank you to all those who made this the most perfect honeymoon.

Room Tip: they are all great.

We absolutely loved it! The grounds are meticulous, the view spectacular, the staff outstanding, the food- incredible, the feeling ---defies description. The spiral marble bathroom stairway with hand painted tiles is just one of the many features that add to the elegance of this magnificently decorated and designed estate. Any angle from any vantage point of this property is breathtakingly beautiful.

Room Tip: Njinski Suite is perfecto.

Being a private Villa in the past, owned by different artists (i.e. Downes and the Italian film maker Zefferilli, who's been the last owner) and recently turned into a boutique hotel, Villa Treville gives you the unique chance to breath a unique atmosphere: relaxing and charming at the same time!

Of course there are all the facilities and services of a 5* luxury hotel, but at the same time the atmosphere is informal and all the guests feel like at home! We didn't realise we were living at a hotel. We felt like we were stayng at our friend's private villa! The staff is really great, always at disposal, but at the same time very discrete.

There are several areas of the hotel (terraceces, gardens, lounge bar and so on) in which any guest can find privacy (a sort of personal "secret garden") to experience special moments!
This is exclusivity! This is luxury!

The view from the property is amazing and the access to the private beach (platform) is also very easy. Close to the hotel there's also the public sandy beach of Arienzo, that can be reached by walking directly from the hotel!!!!

I reccomend a stay at Villa Treville to anyone (couple or family) is looking for a special experience in Positano and in general in Italy!!!

Room Tip: I really love the part called Villa Tre Pini. It's closer to the beach and offers more privacy!

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Villa TreVille provides a unique, boutique hotel experience within a historic, oceanfront estate of about two hectares (five acres) in one of the most fascinating and exclusive places in the world: Positano on Italy's storied Amalfi Coast. This private paradise has an accommodation complex of four independent houses: Villa Bianca, Villa Rosa, Villa Azzurra and Villa Tre Pini. The villas contain a total of 15 guest suites, two with private gardens. Each suite is named after a special guest who has left his or her mark in the annals of the estate and on the arts world, their achievements honoured and recalled in part through the furnishings and art objects, with atmospheres further enhanced by the particular spaces and settings and uses of light and colour. Guests have exclusive access to the seaside sundecks and the dock for the estate's private motor launch through elevators and stone stairways cut into the landscaped, rocky promontory. The villas and amenities are artfully in harmony with the cliffside gardens and pathways that invite exploratory strolls between pergolas laden with vines and cascades of bougainvillea, where every turn can reveal touches of traditional craftsmanship and creative imagination. There are the original Vietri antique ceramics, or exacting reproductions, and extensive handiworks of local artisans such as the hand-painted plates produced exclusively for Villa TreVille by Rosalinda di Sorrento or the glasses made for the house by Venini, the historic Venetian manufacturer of glassware in Murano. The refurbishment of the entire property initially was under the artistic direction of Franco Zeffirelli, the opera and movie maestro who lived on the estate for 35 years. The work subsequently was continued with meticulous attention to essential details by the former proprietor, Giovanni Russo, who was advised by architect Fausta Gaetani, a friend of Mr. Zeffirelli's and a frequent guest at Villa TreVille. ... more   less
