This hotel is great value, in a great spot overlooking the bay. It has real charm, the entrance lies up a stepped garden (three flights as I recall!) and is like stepping back in time. The family are really friendly and couldn't have been more helpful. Apparently there is an older frescoed bit and a newer conversion. We were in the conversion so I don't know about the older part, but I loved it. The decor is very late 50's early 60's and probably not your bag if you like a sanitised hotel experience.
It has character though and is comfortable and clean.

I was a bit disappointed with Positano generally as there is very little evidence of life beyond tourism and the shopping areas etc are a bit of a drag unless you have a penchant for billowing pantaloons and other toot. The Nettuno is blissfully away from the centre (though not too far) and was one of the highlights of my trip.

Great stay at this excellent hotel in Positano. The view from the balconies is stunning -- pay the extra fee to get your own private balcony. Beds were very soft and not great for the back.

While you're there, go to the grocery store down the street and get HUGE handmade sandwiches for under 4 euro.

“Beautiful view!”

Villa Nettuno

Loved Villa Nettuno! My husband and I stayed here for 5 nights in June. Prior to our stay, we had read other great reviews regarding the views, and that's why I booked it. I was nervous since the price was lower than other places in Positano, but had a gut feeling I should book it. Anyways, everything was wonderful! From the owners greeting us upon our arrival, to us discovering a large room with a great view of the ocean...perfectly located- there are 2 markets within walking distance, we would walk to the market each morning to grab some fresh fruit, cheese, meat and bread, and then prepare breakfast in the room and eat a romantic sunny brekfast on our balcony. Dreamy. You need to bring your own picnic basket though, but there is a fridge. The owner willingly provided us with boiling water and mugs for our morning coffee, which was another nice touch. Yes- the room is plain, but once you see that balcony you'll understand why. Don't worry about the stairs- there isn't a single place in Positano where you can avoid stairs! We were in Positano for a wedding, and I'm sure amongst the other guests we paid the least for our room but were the most pleased for the value.

Villa Nettuno and Positano were our favorite parts of our trip to Italy. Villa Nettuno is affordable and we were so happy to have paid the extra 5 euro a night for the private balcony. The view is incredible. The room was simple, clean and cozy. The family who runs the hotel lives downstairs and are wonderful - always helpful with lots of advice. They made the stay really enjoyable and we hope to go back someday soon! We can't say enough about the place!

“Most bang for your buck”

Villa Nettuno

Jun 4, 2007

My husband and I found a listing for Villa Nettuno in our Lonely Planet guide and we couldn't be happier with our choice. Although the stairs are daunting at first (you can use a porter for your luggage) the payoff once you get to your room takes your breath away again anyway. The rooms are spacious (we experienced 2 during our stay) and clean. We did find it a bit odd that we had no shower curtain or shower door but the floor was tiled and we did our best to keep the water from splashing all around the bathroom. Sleeping with the doors to the balcony open was a special treat because they have screened doors as well to keep the bugs at bay. To be able to hear the waves lapping and the boats pulling in and out was very soothing! We found the owner, Claudio, very helpful from the responsiveness to our emails prior to our trip to our daily interactions with him each morning and evening. He happily was at the bottom of the stairs each morning to assist us with our plans for the day and offering advice on ways to get there. We also very much enjoyed passing his mother each day either on our way out or on our way in - although she spoke no English we really felt like we were getting to know her throughout our stay. The location is incredibly convenient to the beach, to the quaint shops, to restaurants and to bus stops and the harbor. There is a supermarket very close by with lovely ladies to get some staples for your room (no breakfast- but a decent sized and unique fridge/safe in the room.) The ladies at the market will even open your bottle of wine and recork it for you so you can consume it once you are out on your balcony. The balcony is also where you will undoubtedly find yourself spending the most time. Morning, noon or night - the view from this balcony is spectacular. I would happily recommend this establishment to anyone who is visiting Positano - you won't regret it!
