Well were do i start !!!!! If you are looking for a modern elegant hotel with no stairs dont go here BUT if you are looking for a great value hotel ,with large clean rooms with a balcony with views over positano to die for THIS IS FOR YOU!!!
We arrived from Sorrento via ferry and got the porters to lug our bags up to hotel for 5 euro a piece, well worth it. We then proceeded to walk up the 502 stairs it takes to get from the port up to your room . On arrival we were greated by Claudios wife/sister and his mother! Claudio then took us up to our room #25 from memory (it was the 1st double room next to the 2 bedroom upstairs ,3rd balcony along ,so it was the best double with views). The furniture and fittings are quiet old but the room was very large by european standards with a big bathroom with toilet and shower with bath. The room was very clean, the view from the balcony is breathtaking .We really didnt go out much at night prefering to sit on our balcony and eat and drink and watch the world go by.
The room also has a bar fridge which was quiet cold .Claudio gave us a heads up on the supermarket UP the road(not down) which had pretty much everything you need (deli, drinks, alcohol, and most small goods) to stock up your bar fridge.it also had the cheapest beer i had in europe! 1 euro heinekens YEAH !!! .Claudio recommended the pizza shop just up the road on the right from supermarket for cheap pizza and he wasnt wrong. Great margherita pizza for 3.50 euro, of course we didnt eat in . Not with having our own balcony with a view. I had also read about Cafe Positano which is a 2 mniute walk down road from hotel (no stairs) and was not dissapointed .The food was beautiful .If you are down in town or at the beach there is a great little deli near the stairs leading up to the church which had great value sandwiches or rolls which were made in front of you when you ordered .Even the meat was sliced after you ordered !no pre-packaging here!
From Positano we visited Amalfi and Ravello (get the blue sita bus from top of road nettuno was on ) get the all day ticket 10 euro which will get you up to Ravello as well .You change buses in Amalfi to get up to Ravello (which was beautiful with views to die for)
We also went to Capri but beware of LINEE MARITTIME .When it was time to come back the boat didnt arrive at the pier which was on the electronic departure board at Capri. We were not alone (about 200 other people) When we went to their ticket office the lady argued with us that the boat did come and we were wrong.Well we all knew who was wrong! She then said we have to wait another hour and a half for next one ! So when the next one finally arrived (at wrong pier again) there were 600 people trying to get on the last boat of the day which only holds 200 .it was like a riot but we got on but lots left behind stranded on the island !!! not good so beware
In Positano there are stairs everywhere so be warned .We normally walked down in morning and got the bus that leaves from up behind the church back(at girlfriends insistance wouldnt of worried me ) . It is a loop service and goes around the top of positano and comes back down the villa nettuno side and stops 100mtrs up road from hotel. It cost 1 euro and you pay on boarding .We jumped out a few times further up the hill from our hotel were there was some great photo opportunities
We were planning on getting a ferry from Positano to Salerno to catch a train to Calabria on our day of departure. On awaking that morning we found out from Claudio the ferries had been cancelled due to rough weather .We thought getting the sita bus to salerno would be a major drama with our suitcases and it would of taken 3 hours, which meant we would of missed our train BUT claudio rang one of his mates who has hire cars and he drove us to Salerno for a very reasonable price!!!
So we would definantly highly recommend VILLA NETTUNO .It was our favourite hotel in 3 months of travel in Europe and the helpfullness and friendliness showed to us by claudio and co was first class
