this hotel was reffered to us by friends

We stayed on the upper level (only 2 levels). The rooms have 1960s furnature but are extreamly clean and large. All the top floor has balconies that look over positano (maybe the best view i have seen there). i would recommend the upper rooms than the ground florr rooms, they both have views, but you dont have as much privacy, as level 1 share a walkway/balcony.
owner is extreamly helpful and can tell you were to eat and go on tours.

Some tips.

* Walk up the hill (right)about 300m (near grocery store) for great food a few euros cheaper than the town.
* Ask owner about the locals shop (down the hill at the square) where you can get HOT coffee and breakfast for cheap! Cafe Positano (downstairs) is very overpriced and commercialised.
* Also ask him how to get to the beach on the right. its a small beach where the lounge beds are €5 for the day (main beach is $10-15 per day) You can go to the main beach and walk right, along the cliff to the little beach
* there are stairs next to Cafe Positano which is a shortcut to the main area on the main beach.

Remember Positano is Stairs Stairs Stairs, and this hotel has 3 flights to get to the front door, then 4 flights to get to the second level, but well worth the hike!

“Charming Villa with the best outlook”

Villa Nettuno is a wonderful and spacious guesthouse with some of the best views in Positano. The rooms on the lower floor are older but extremely large and charming and have a balcony the size of most guesthouses. the view takes in some of the most breathtaking mountains you will ever see.
The upper rooms are smaller but have been recently refurbished. The hosts speak english and are very helpful with bus, ferry and train times. Nearby is the Cafe Positano with the best views you will get for dinner. It is away from the street noises and overlooks the church also. Well worth the stay if you like a villa that has a great and authentic atmosphere to it.

I must echo the other fantastic reviews of this accommodation. The views from the rooms are spectacular (book the upstairs rooms if possible, an extra 10 euros but worth it) the building is ramshackle but stunning and the welcome is wonderful.
There is a little supermarket up the road which stocks all the basics and you will want to enjoy aperitif, olives etc on the balcony. The fridge is small but sufficient. The restaurants were fantastic in Positano, Da Vincenzo is just down the road and is wonderful! If you feel like being lazy or saving some euros the pizza restaurant up the road does takeaway pizzas for about 5 euros which are great. For a gourmet restaurant try the Donna Rosa in Montepertuso which is right at the top of the hill. You'll need to get a bus or a cab but it's worth it. It's a Jamie Oliver favorite and it's well worth the hype. Don't trust the lonely planet, it's definitely top-end of the prices around the coast but still excellent value for money in my opinion.
In terms of excursions, Pompei is a must, Capri is worth a day-trip and if you can manage a couple of nights in Ischia I'd recommend it. Have a great holiday, you'\ll fall in love with Positano!

We stayed at Villa Nettuno for 5 nights as part of our honeymoon. The owner, Claudio was more than welcoming and accomodated any of our requests.

Upon arriving there, and hiking up the stairs (which are unavoidable anywhere in Positano) And enter your room, you are immediately left breathless at the view. It is worth the room rates on its own!

The room was very. very large by european standards (and Australian) it has air conditioning which was very cool (it was 40+ degrees outside) and a very large bathroom.

For 90 euro a night, i would highly recommend villa nettuno and will definitaly stay there again if we are lucky enough to get back to this beautiful part of the world.

Well were do i start !!!!! If you are looking for a modern elegant hotel with no stairs dont go here BUT if you are looking for a great value hotel ,with large clean rooms with a balcony with views over positano to die for THIS IS FOR YOU!!!
We arrived from Sorrento via ferry and got the porters to lug our bags up to hotel for 5 euro a piece, well worth it. We then proceeded to walk up the 502 stairs it takes to get from the port up to your room . On arrival we were greated by Claudios wife/sister and his mother! Claudio then took us up to our room #25 from memory (it was the 1st double room next to the 2 bedroom upstairs ,3rd balcony along ,so it was the best double with views). The furniture and fittings are quiet old but the room was very large by european standards with a big bathroom with toilet and shower with bath. The room was very clean, the view from the balcony is breathtaking .We really didnt go out much at night prefering to sit on our balcony and eat and drink and watch the world go by.
The room also has a bar fridge which was quiet cold .Claudio gave us a heads up on the supermarket UP the road(not down) which had pretty much everything you need (deli, drinks, alcohol, and most small goods) to stock up your bar fridge.it also had the cheapest beer i had in europe! 1 euro heinekens YEAH !!! .Claudio recommended the pizza shop just up the road on the right from supermarket for cheap pizza and he wasnt wrong. Great margherita pizza for 3.50 euro, of course we didnt eat in . Not with having our own balcony with a view. I had also read about Cafe Positano which is a 2 mniute walk down road from hotel (no stairs) and was not dissapointed .The food was beautiful .If you are down in town or at the beach there is a great little deli near the stairs leading up to the church which had great value sandwiches or rolls which were made in front of you when you ordered .Even the meat was sliced after you ordered !no pre-packaging here!
From Positano we visited Amalfi and Ravello (get the blue sita bus from top of road nettuno was on ) get the all day ticket 10 euro which will get you up to Ravello as well .You change buses in Amalfi to get up to Ravello (which was beautiful with views to die for)
We also went to Capri but beware of LINEE MARITTIME .When it was time to come back the boat didnt arrive at the pier which was on the electronic departure board at Capri. We were not alone (about 200 other people) When we went to their ticket office the lady argued with us that the boat did come and we were wrong.Well we all knew who was wrong! She then said we have to wait another hour and a half for next one ! So when the next one finally arrived (at wrong pier again) there were 600 people trying to get on the last boat of the day which only holds 200 .it was like a riot but we got on but lots left behind stranded on the island !!! not good so beware
In Positano there are stairs everywhere so be warned .We normally walked down in morning and got the bus that leaves from up behind the church back(at girlfriends insistance wouldnt of worried me ) . It is a loop service and goes around the top of positano and comes back down the villa nettuno side and stops 100mtrs up road from hotel. It cost 1 euro and you pay on boarding .We jumped out a few times further up the hill from our hotel were there was some great photo opportunities
We were planning on getting a ferry from Positano to Salerno to catch a train to Calabria on our day of departure. On awaking that morning we found out from Claudio the ferries had been cancelled due to rough weather .We thought getting the sita bus to salerno would be a major drama with our suitcases and it would of taken 3 hours, which meant we would of missed our train BUT claudio rang one of his mates who has hire cars and he drove us to Salerno for a very reasonable price!!!
So we would definantly highly recommend VILLA NETTUNO .It was our favourite hotel in 3 months of travel in Europe and the helpfullness and friendliness showed to us by claudio and co was first class
