“Beautiful property”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 26, 2013

This is a very beautiful hotel cut into the side of a rock. It is a couples hotel and it is elegant. The concierge are really outstanding. The food is nice . You really come here for the views and the calm.

Room Tip: You need to spend money to have a good room.

My husband and I have indulged in a "hotel tasting menu" for the past two weeks and we're not done yet. We've spent 2 nights each at: Excelsior Vittoria in Sorento, Palazzo Avino in Ravello, Palazzo Caruso also in Ravello, and now San Pietro in Positano. Two days here and we'll finish up at Le Sireneuse down the road a bit. (We had a side trip to Capri but somehow failed to stay at the Ceasar Augustus which we regretted.). All of these hotels so far are simply fabulous. I've concluded that southern Italians have redefined the hospitality industry. The combination of gorgeous locale, beautiful design, and generous service is unequalled in any region ive ever been. Each place has some special and fairly unique quality that distinguishes it from the rest - at San Pietro it is incomparable views and really beautiful public spaces. All these amazing places are pricey and appropriate for "special occasion" travel but they provide unforgettable pleasure!

Fantastic location although a little out of the town, but with a complimentary shuttle whenever you wanted.
Staff were excellent and couldn't be faulted, nothing was ever too much trouble.
We upgraded to a de luxe room at a cost of 750 Euros a night (even the standard is 620) and had a beautiful view from the balcony. The room was spacious and the ensuite bathroom lovely, with a tub and separate shower.
If I had a moan, then it was the little things such as having to pay an extra few euros for an egg or other breakfast items, the towels and dressing gowns were on the hard side and not fluffy. Not too much of a problem but when paying such a lot of money, one wonders if they shouldn't just have a look at what is being provided for the money.

Stayed here for 2 nights in October after a stay in Capri and WOW! amazing on every level, service was top notch, room was spacious and so clean, and food was incredible. The private beach and sun deck were my favorite part of the hotel. Most the guests were older, 50 years and up, and we are in our 20's so we kind of felt out of place a little, but everyone was very nice and there are fun places to go in the town of Positano if you want more nightlife, etc. Overall, it was absolutely spectacular! It is definitely worth the splurge especially if you are celebrating a birthday or anniversary!

I have stayed in many top hotels round the world with my work in the past and really cannot afford to stay in such a place these days. I was treated to a few days by my elderly parents last week and it really is a wonderful hotel in so many ways. As a reviewer said, you really do not go here watching the pennies - it is extremely expensive. We did not eat in the hotel often - the restaurant service is fantastic and the food is quite good - could be a bit better to be honest considering the expense but I am very critical working in the food world. To this end I like to go out and find more simple restaurants cooking local food well. The breakfast buffet is great - there is plenty of choice and I saw no reason to order anything else - there is a small menu on the table which outlines what it would cost you to do so though. The beach attendants were wonderful and ever attentive - there is no way we tipped to get a front row sun bed and nothing stopped us from sitting there although I am not so sure that it is the best place to sit anyway - far better to sit further back, share the same sun and people watch! No doubt we paid a fortune for our lunchtime Camparis that come with the best juicy green olives and salted almonds - delicious. The main reason for going to this hotel is that it is beautifully designed down the cliff side away from the crowds of Positano, it has great views and the staff are fantastic - wonderfully attentive and very kind especially to my parents who are not as fast as they used to be at 86 years old. It inspires me to work harder to save to stay again soon.

My husband and I stayed here one year ago....the grounds and setting were breathtaking....I had been warned that the manager would try to recommend a more expensive room, which we, politely, declined. It was lovely. Next time we might stay at La Sireneuse, which is more centrally located :)

nice an quite hotel, but be careful.
lovely beach area but you can not set the first or second raw, if you do not tip them.
the pool is located above the rooms and restaurant and you cant use the jacuzzy all the time and the pool man is rude.
the restaurant a la carte it's poor and really expensive, we decide to go out for dine every single night
and the last you need some cash for laundry- P-, flowers, and boat you can not pay laundry with cc. this is a shame. at the check-in they said nice buffet breakfast complimentary was server in the main restaurant, but they charged us for eggs an fruits and nobody at restaurant told about the charges . i love the san pietro in any case but they need to be clear with guest(no price of the room in the room)
i hope i can be back and see all the new room,( we had a vintage room no shower)

Room Tip: ask for new rooms with shower
