Positano is about one hour by bus from Sorrento, the main city in this area. The village itself is beautiful. There are lots of reasonably priced shops, a good number of restaurants, and hotels that seem to show off the area's absolutely spectacular views. Hotel Villa Franca is a 10 minute walk from the SITA bus stop and a 15-20 minute walk down a long steep set of stairs to the beach. The rooms, which are exactly as pictured on the website, have a TV, mini bar, and I think most had a balcony with a table and two chairs (some also had lounge chairs). The main floor of the hotel has many oversized chairs, two Apple computers with internet access, board games, a bar, a dinner area, and a breakfast area. Breakfast each morning included traditional European breads, cold meats, cheese, yogurt, fruit (the best oranges and kiwis we've ever eaten), jam, coffee, tea and made to order eggs. The breakfast area looks out over Positano so it's a breathtaking way to start your day.
We were supposed to stay four days but checked out a day early because the town was so very very quiet. Just too quiet for us. Apparently, it begins to pick up after Easter. When we were there, there were only three restaurants open that we could find and some shops. Two of the three days we were there we took the SITA bus back to Sorrento to see the markets and in hopes of making it to Capri.
Overall, Villa Franco is a beautiful hotel with spectacular views and extremely nice rooms. We found the two girls at the front desk very helpful, and the breakfast staff pleasant and happy. Be prepared to walk - a lot - up and down steep stairs to see Positano. If you don't mind the exercise, the views are wonderful.
