I am finally getting down our thoughts about this wonderful hotel. We picked it based on all the great reviews and at the time it was #2 in Positano. We wanted to be a little up the hill away from all the tourists coming and going. And the pool looked so inviting. Since we have returned, I have been keeping up with all the reviews. It is amazing how someone can have such a different experience. It is now rated #9. I just have to say we loved this Hotel!!. We did request a quiet room based on other reviews about the street noise. We had room # 33. We were given a package of dried pasta as a room gift and fresh flowers were on the dresser. The room was quiet and a nice size with a large deck big enough for 2 lounge chairs, and a table and chairs. The view was amazing. The bath did have the green tile, but we saw that same tile at Le Sirenuse. The bath had a shower and bath combo with a rounded bottom. I must say that was a little odd. The best part was the lovely restaurant. We would be tired after a day of sightseeing and were so happy to come back to our room, change and just go downstairs to the lovely pool and veranda dining areas. We ended up having dinner each of our 5 nights right there. The waiters are so charming and remembered our previous choices for example, the water, wine etc. At our first night we met the charming Alessandra. We were not sure who she was, but we smiled and she came over to our table to chat and tell us that she would give us suggestions for restaurants etc. even for Rome.
The food at the hotel was delicious, wonderful local fish, pasta and salads. It was fun to meet other guests who were enjoying the dinners each night. After dinner we would go inside to the living room and sofas for an espresso and sit by the fire and enjoy the entertainment. Again the waiter would remember us each night and give us helpful hints about the weather or sights to see. We were never given a bill for those meals. They just kept a tab each night and it was on our bill at the end. It ended up being quite reasonable when we compared to our stays in Rome and Capri. We had a lovely full breakfast each morning which was included in the price of the room. Again with those cute attentive waiters. I think the charm of the place is the friendly staff. By the way the elevator is the oldest one in Positano...so charming. After our 5 nights here we were off to Capri for 2 nights. We noticed that our large suitcases would be a problem getting on the boat. When we inquired about this at the reception desk the men said no problem, "just store your big suitcases with us and take a smaller bag" . This was a good suggestion. We ended up storing our big bags and then came back to the hotel and they arranged a car for the ride back to Rome. We are looking forward to returning to the Poseidon.
