Positano is a wonderful town, clinging onto the hillside, with little alleyways and a refreshing absence of motor vehicles (apart from the through roads). The Palazzo Murat couldn't be better placed, being only 5 minutes from the beach and 5 minutes from the bus stop, if you wish to venture further. Yet, even though it has a central location (is there a better one in Positano?) it instantly becomes an oasis of calm, with wonderful gardens and courtyards as soon as you walk in.
The rooms are functional (we were in the "new" block) but always comfortable and we had a lovely large private balcony. The pool is also a very refreshing addition to dip into when relaxing on the loungers, which conveniently come supplied with free towels.
There are two things that stand out in this hotel. Firstly the food, both in the restaurant and the buffet breakfast, is delicious and supplemented by the freshest fruit and herbs from the hotel's own garden. Dinner was a lovely treat and reasonably priced for the quality standard delivered. Secondly the hotel service was first class, from the receptionists to all of the waiters and domestics. Everyone was friendly and couldn't do more to make your stay comfortable and hassle-free. If there was one (and only one) minor quibble, as already mentioned by others the wifi is patchy, but (a) the hotel management are up front about this and (b) it's actually very pleasant to not check emails every day!
