Sometimes a hotel is just a place to rest your head on a trip, other times it can become a such a memorable portion of your vacation you can't imagine your trip without it. For us, Le Sirenuse fits the latter category. My husband had stayed here before and insisted we come back as a couple. He told me to book the least expensive room they had because you just "want to be part of that hotel." After going I can see why. Staying at Le Sirenuse is an experience.
We booked a double room billed as "no sea view." But because there was a window, there WAS a view, albeit a small one, of beautiful Positano and a small peak of the sea. Of the 5 hotels we stayed in during this Italian trip, this room was the smallest, but somehow it also felt the most luxurious and well-appointed. A bed, a dresser (with silver service) a nice closet, full-length mirror, DVD player and free DVD library, CD player, and safe.
The moderate-sized bathroom had it all, including a tub with jet sprays. Of course, robes and slippers provided.
The hotel itself is incredibly charming with many rooms throughout where you can sit yourself for a quiet moment. A trademark seems to be vines growing inside on many of the white archways and walls which give it a lovely-garden-like touch. That's where we ate an absolutely fabulous buffet breakfast (included) as we sat on this beautiful outdoor terrace overlooking the hills of Positano.
The pool is beautiful with full bar service, there is another outdoor terrace where we sat in comfortable chairs, drank out of gorgeous hand-blown glasses, and watched the sunset until night showed off the twinking lights on the hill, the fireplace glowed, and the mood-setting music absolutely transported us. One of my favorite memories.
The hotel is full-service with a spa, workout room, a free boat excursion for guests..I'm sure they'll arrange anything for you. Having said that, some, not all, of the help at the reception desk were a little cool in demeanor, but I suppose they're used to dealing with celebrities and world dignitaries and have become quite matter-of-fact!
The only thing they don't have are irons...but of course for a pretty penny they'll do your laundry FOR you! I passed, and wet my wrinkled clothes and smoothed them with the provided blowdryer.
The location was perfect, too. Right in the middle of things with just a short walk down to the sea.
If you can afford a bigger room with a view, go for it...but if you can just get the least expensive double like we did, I think you'll enjoy it.
It was a fabulous memory and I hope to return sometime.
