“a week in italy”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 26, 2013

with my Husband and 2 friends we spent 3 wonderful nights in this amazing place the weather was not so nice
but everything else went perfect the staff was always ready for our requests ,the restaurant managed by Michele is well organized the food is excellent i have until today a copy from the menu that we had personally i like every sort of risotto but all Italian food is very different.
in the pool area wee had with other friends snacks and a nice bottle of Prosecco there we meted a girl that served us she was always smiling and very attentive it seemed that we were eating at the restaurant ,the second day we meet her at the bar near the restaurant and we know then that her name is Georgia each time she welcomed us with a big smile and toked care of us we appreciated everything every detail we will definitively come back
we had really a nice time in this structure .

We spent 5 nights there on our way back from Rome. When seeing the pics on their website we thought that we will be disspointed compared to reality but we were not ! it is even more beautiful than expected.
We have been treated like we were home, the staff is extremely nice and attentive to your comfort. they anticipate all your needs.
the room was big and nice with a beathtaking view from the (big) balcony.

the food was great and they even managed to cook anything for us at the michelin star restaurant when we started to know all the menu.

special mention to Antonella who made our stay amazing by its professionalism and kindness (and very good french speaking), to Frederico who took care of us all day long anticipating all !!!! and to the lady sommelier who helped us to discover new vintages and that has such a passion for wines.

We will definitely come back since we felt at home being part of this big family.

Room Tip: we had G5 the sea view was great and very large.

On a random road trip down the west coast of Italy October 2011 we, unannounced, pulled into this hotel after a long day on the road, (apologies for the delay in getting around to this review). I have to say it is one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in. As a hotelier myself I love to go to privately run places where you get that extra special feel to them, and this had just that.

The lady on reception couldn't have been more helpful, showing us around a few rooms first before we finally chose the one that we liked best (granted it was out of season so this was possible at the time), it was one of their suites, it was spotless and decorated very tastefully, with best of all a large sun draped terrace overlooking the sea.

The hotel is located at the top of cliffs and has a long walk down to the rocky beach below, where sun loungers are placed for use at your leisure (a little cold when we visited in october, but I can imagine it is perfect in the summer), which had a lovely quaint family run restaurant selling all kinds of seafood that we loved, and the walk back up to the hotel kept us nice and fit.

The restaurant in the evening is a MUST with a beautiful A La Carte menu that has just the right enough amount of choice, and great service. The head waiter looked after us very well both nights, and recomended two very nice bottles of wine that complemented our meals beautifully.

All in all a perfect stay and we wished we could have stayed for longer. Thank you all for your hospitality and if you are ever in the UK (wales) please come and visit us at Llanerch Vineyard and we will return the hospitality.

Ryan Davies

Room Tip: The suites with the sea views were spectacular

We stayed here for what was supposed to be 3 nights but checked out after one night. We had tried to book a suite ( 8 months before our planned stay) overlooking the sea but none were available. We were told we would be very comfortable in one of their "garden suites". To say we were not is an understatement. The "suite" was tiny -- two people couldnt cross in front of the bed at the same time! The decor was non- existent-- think an I renovated Howard Johnson's. The "beach" is a concrete slab-- which is understandable given the topography-- all rock-- and scenic. But, the resort must have decided to increase revenue by jamming more guests into the place as lounge chairs were literally on top of each other-- privacy? Forget it. We travel a lot and have stayed at fabulous places throughout the world -- everything from the Bristol in Paris to Six Senses Zighy Bay in Oman, Mombo in Botswana, Twin Farms in Vermont, il monasterio in Cusco and certainly appreciate places that feel "of the place". But, Il pelicano is a disgrace-- truly one of those places I'd put in the category of "emperors new clothes". I must say dinner on the terrace overlooking the sea was magical-- but then you had to go back to the shack of a room.

Dear Mrs Deborah,
many thanks for your review and the time dedicated. I really appreciate to be under discussion, especially reading the titles of the two last reviews about Il Pellicano.
Penultimate "Spectacular", last "Horrible!". This is the spirit of this unique, incredible, amazing passion, THE HOTEL LIFE WITH OUR CUSTOMERS.
I thank you to give us and especially to give me the opportunity to analyze this situation after long time, it was june if I'm correct. Just two months and the season 2013 will open, the right time to plan somenthing new and special for our Customers, the right time to create a new experience at Il Pellicano.
I only wish to specify the room you have reserved, was not a Suite but a double Garden view, that's why about the size of the room.
I take this occasion to apologize the fact I was not at the Hotel the day you have decided to leave, but as you know, we were in contact after your departure. Our philosophy is very easy: we are human and able to make mistakes or not able to meet our Customers satisfaction. We must always be able to offer solutions and new opportunities of experience.
You now have in your hands this opportunity, I really hope to have another chance with you, offering us the opportunity to show you that we are not so "Horrible".
Once again thank you very much, enjoy the amazing NYC and hope to meet you soon.

It just doesn't get any better than this outrageously expensive villa. The food is divine, atmosphere unbelievable, grounds lovely and staff the finest.
Great place to hideaway or just indulge... Life is short -- and this beautiful place should be on your bucket list. *****'s

Dear Lady,

thank you very much for your kind review and the idea to share your experience at Il Pellicano with all the TripAdvisor Travellers.
Brief, focused on the main moments you enjoyed with us. A perfect description of the Pellicano's Experience.
You are right, life is short and we have to taste each single moment the Nature offer us daily.
Why not with the amazing food, wine and spectacular show offered by the wild nature of the Argentario Peninsula?
Good Idea!
We wait for you once again, I really hope to have the chance to have a glass of Brunello with you on the terrace.

All my best

Stayed for two nights in September. Great hotel, service was perfect. The rooms are located in the midst of the hill, we had a very quiet room on top of one building, giving free views of the mediteranean. The restaurant is spectacular - given my shellfish allergy, they did everything to provide still a top expereince and they succeeded. A place to definitely come back!

Dear Mister Michael,

thank you very much for the kind review you shared with the TripAdvisor Readers. I really appreciated your description and your judgement about the property.
I'm really proud about your evidence on the Restaurant Staff and the attention they paid to you. This is exactly our daily life. The attention on the small particulars which usually make the differents.
I hope to have a future opportunity to welcome you back.

Beautiful resort located on a cliff overlooking the sea. We spent two wonderful days relaxing by the pool, enjoying the excellent, though expensive food. Located approx. 1 1/2 hrs. northwest of Rome, it is the perfect place to rest between Rome and Florence. The spa was excellent. Wonderful staff. Very special place.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The elegant five-star hotel, located in Tuscany's Maremma region, was built in the mid-1960s as a love nest for Michael and Patricia Graham and it is today part of The Leading Hotels of the World. The home, called Il Pellicano as a tribute to the first time the couple met at Pelican Point in California, was initially a club for the Grahams' friends, but was subsequently expanded and opened to friends of friends. However, a few things remained the same: the pleasure of feeling at home and the glamorous and slightly retro atmosphere. The hotel's discrete luxury and the still-rugged Tuscan countryside attract the international jet set. Today, the cottages and the central building are suspended between the sky and the sea, with large rooms, windows and terraces where it's unclear where the indoors end and the outdoors begin. There are pathways and stairways, fragrant gardens and discrete corners, a restaurant with one Michelin stars and three Gambero Rosso forks, a heated sea-water swimming pool, a spa with a sea view to soothe both the body and the soul, and for those wanting to take a dip in the Tyrrhenian Sea, a white platform with chaise longue and immaculate parasols. ... more   less
