“Not worth the money unless you like to be very close to the Marina”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 17, 2007

Two of us stayed at the hotel for a week at the end of May.
It was definitely off-peak season for Porto Cervo but the hotel is quite busy because of many package holidays organized by German travel agencies for Mid-Aged couples.

The staff were helpful and friendly. There is a good size swimming pool, but we were always out and about hence never used the pool.

The rooms are generally very noisy. You can hear sound like power shower everytime when your neighbours turn on the taps. Additional to that you can hear everything when ppl walk in the corridor. Must be the way the hotel was built I think. We moved once and was hoping that it would resolve the noise issue, but learned to adopt at the end.

The breakfast was average. You will have to pay for fried/poached egg (unlike other 4 stars hotels!).

If you decide to rent a car, there is plenty of space outside for parking. However, not sure abt Jun/Jul/Aug and how busy it could get.

Location wise, its a 5 mins walk to the marina and shops. There are car rental/internet cafe, two restaurant and a bar nearby. If you want to go out and have a wild night, don't think this is the best place for it in May. It was very quiet.

The rooms were cleaned everyday, if you forget to put 'do not disturb' sign on ur door, expect someone to knock on ur door as early as 7:30!

If you need to use internet cafe, make sure you bring your passport or some Id with you cos the internet cafe around the corder from the hotel has proper printed out procedures and it is quite expensive. Finding an internet cafe was very tough in Porto Cervo.

We stayed for 9 days at the end of July and thought the hotel was great overall.

Few problems: the water stopped on one or two days during the whole day (couldn't use toilet/shower) - we were told by reception that it often happens when it's really hot as the water supply to the area runs out. Further down the road, people were watering their gardens and washing boats ...

The hotel doesn't have no-smoking rooms either, a surprise since we had been able to request one on expedia. We were shown to what was clearly a room that had just had smokers in it and were told it's non-smoking because we wouldn't be smoking (!). Staff were happy to move us to another room though that was much better.

It has a great pool and nice cafe/bar available during the day. Breakfast is OK in the morning - nice little cafe in Porto Cervo (walk down the stairs from the supermarket) as a treat otherwise. In the evening, you can walk down to the marina or round the marina path to Porto Cervo - about a 20 min walk. Restaurants in PC are very expensive (compared to the UK they're extremely expensive for what you get). If you're going in peak season, try to choose and book the night before.

You can also drive/taxi to Baia Sardinia - about 10 mins away - for more choices for dinner. Great sun-set views from there.

Would recommend the Clipper restaurant about 2 mins walk from the Colonna, simple but good pizza/pasta and helpful staff. In the marina, the first italian restaurant you come to when walking down (mama italia?) was also fantastic - service and food.

Go snorkelling too - you'll see fish and octopus if you're by rocks - we did all the time.

Hope you enjoy, we thought Porto Cervo was definitely the most beautiful part of the island.

Hotel had a great location and very good grounds and pool. However they could do with some serious investment in the rooms, a reburbishment is way overdue. Our room had very poor lighting and the air-conditioner failed to work most of the time. Also the shower would barely drip in the morning, however worked reasonable in the afternoon. The television must have been a century old and has no sattelite or English channels. The staff were polite and useful, recommending good beaches and places to eat. This place has a lot of potential, but with the lack of investment keeping the rooms up to specification it will be a very dissapointing stay.

Well Located hotel with discrete , courteous staff, - reasonable food and fair prices considering the location and prices of nearby amenities. Fairly quiet and relaxing and probably not the right place for kids seeking entertainment. Worth getting a hire car to explore neighbouring resorts.

  • Liked — quietness, relaxation but not distant from amenities
  • Disliked — lack of carpets/rugs in corridors (some footstep noise at night)
  • Tips/Secrets — hire a car & mix lunch/dinner for half board variety

If you want luxury in Porto Cervo, you need to stump up for it.

This hotel was our home for 2 weeks in late May early June and we were very nervous after reading the trip advisor comments after we had booked and paid for the holiday (£1900).

The hotel is situated between Porto Cervo and the Marina. Porto Cervo is Bond Street on sea without Fenwicks - so you can't afford anything. A coke costs you €7 and a starter in the 2 restaurants we found was €28. The Marina is pretty but also sparse for things to do.

The Colonna Park is what now unfortunately passes for 4 star (not that stars mean anything any more). The rooms are entirely adequate, the facilities are entirely adequate, the pool is great and if you can't get in it because it is too cold you are a wimp. There were at least 5 old fogies in there everyday. The food was interesting and after a week or so kind of grew on us. There is an antipasti (one choice) which is usually seafood or cold meat with some salad, then 4 choices of Primi, two pasta, plus 2 others usually soup, the pasta was imaginative and perfectly cooked with a good sauce, Secondi was again 4 choices and could be a bit of let down if you chose badly but pretty good if you chose well. Then there were 4 (homemade) puddings. The menu changed daily and was served by delightful staff who were the highlight of the entire hotel.

The beach is a long way away - too far to walk but the shuttle takes 10 minutes and the beach is worth it despite the lack of facilities and restaurants.

It annoys me when people pay as little as they do for places like the Colonna Park and then complain. If you pay top dollar you can complain about a four star hotel but at the Colonna you get what you pay for but it's served with a smile.

If you want luxury you need to pay £3k each per person per week for the Cala Di Volpe or the Sheraton.

Having read the Trip Advisor reviews prior to leaving for the Colonna Park 2 weeks ago, we flew to Sardinia with a sense of apprehension about what could possibly lie ahead! We were very pleasantly surprised. The hotel is not what I would call luxurious but the rooms are very nice, clean and each has a lovely balcony upon which to survey the grounds and pool. The staff are extremely friendly, welcoming and chatty and we were made to feel at home. We were on half board which at first I thought might have been a mistake but despite a few dodgy courses, we on the whole enjoyed a lovely 4 course meal every night. The half board also came in handy when we realised just how few restaurants there are in Porto Cervo and the few there are, are soooooo expensive it is unjustifiable eating at them unless you have money to burn. There is one lovely restaurant at the bottom of the road, Clipper, which I would recommend but other than that the selection is limited. The marina is a 10 minute walk away and the actual town of Porto Cervo about 20 minutes away. The hotel offer an hourly shuttle bus service to the beach, which is beautiful but be warned offers no "beach bar" type facilities but this is easily overcome by a visit to the local supermarket. If you are staying longer than a week I would definitely recommend hiring a car so you can travel around a bit though.

In summary - the hotel is perfectly formed with very little to complain about. The resort on the other hand was a disappointment.

Just returned from Hotel Colonna Park Hotel in Sardinia. We read a few comments before going to this hotel and where somewhat worried to what we were going to find there? We had a very pleasant stay at this hotel, the food, service and our room was of a very good standard. It was very quiet at this hotel no more that 4/6 people around the pool area, plenty of sunbeds available. Yes we agree that Porto Cervo was a little on the quiet side. We had a trip to Baia Sardinia and must say it is definately worth visiting it was absolutely lovely (taxi 20/25 euros). We had a meal in the restaurant just on the beach and it was very nice indeed. Our opinion of the hotel was a charming rustic atmosphere and if you are looking for a relaxing holiday this is the place to go. Although I must say that this hotel is not for people with walking difficulties as there are no lifts in the hotel. Overall we had a lovely holiday and we would agree that this hotel is not a 4* but maybe 3* plus.
