“Nice hotel , overpriced though”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 23, 2012

This is a nice hotel with a fantastic beach, the best in sardinia porto cervo area. The fact is that the rooms are not very nice, old and small and the facilities limited, so really you are paying all the money for the location and the name it used to have.

Nothing wrong with the food, it is actually very nice.

Service is good too.

Dear marip1989,

We are honoured to hear your kind words on our beach, that you consider the best in the Sardinia Porto Cervo area. However, we are sorry to learn that our rooms, created by the Architect Busiri Vici and reflect typical Sardinian and local design, did not meet your expectations. As in regards to the facilities, we are sorry to learn that you were not able to fully appreciate the many services offered as, for example, our equipped beauty centre, the fitness areas (indoor and outdoor) with the brand new Technogym equipment, or our bars and restaurants, just to mention few. We take this opportunity to thank you for your comment and hope we will have the pleasure to welcoming you again.

The Romazzino Hotel is beautiful, with a stunning beach location. It is outside (about 10 min drive) of Porto Cervo, so I would definitely rent a car if you are staying there. A taxi to town we were told would cost 30 Euros. The rooms are relatively basic, but the hotel grounds are great. Great pool, large beach, nice playground area/kids club. The breakfast is great & the staff are very attentive. The downside of the Romazzino is the price. Everything is very very expensive (32 Euros for a burger at the beach restaurant, 9 Euros for a latte), so if you go make sure you are comfortable with the prices so you can enjoy your vacation.

It is with great pleasure that we learn of your stay in our hotel. We are glad you had such a good experience and that you were able to enjoy the many beauties and services that our hotel has to offer: the picturesque architecture, the ideal beachfront location, the unique décor and of course the fine cuisine. The restaurant and bar offer only the freshest local products and their luscious food and drinks are, together with the impeccable staff service, one of the many things that make our hotel so special and exclusive. Gorgeous beach location and guestrooms but far from restaurants, shopping etc. so having a car is almost a necessity here. That being said the hotel is beautifully decorated in Mediterranean style. Wifi throughout, including guestrooms. Outstanding outdoor workout pavilion with state-of-the-art equipment and personal trainer on duty. Great private beach with recliners and umbrellas but no drink service. When I went to get a diet coke at the beachfront café it cost me 11 euros… a record on this trip. There are no bargains at the Romanzina—except for the extraordinary gigantic breakfast buffet. International FAX exchange was handled in very timely and confidential manner. Upon checkout we had a dispute over a private car service the hotel had arranged for us. The hotel billed us, but I had paid the driver in cash as he suggested at drop-off, and the next day via phone he denied receiving any money from me (200 euros!). The highly professional reception staff at Romanzina handled the situation with tact and understanding and very kindly worked w/ the car service and removed the charge from my bill.

Dear TravelJac,
We are glad to learn that you had such a good experience during your recent stay in our hotel. The Romazzino is renowned for its suggestive location in front of the enchanting emerald sea, the pristine nature, its attentive staff and the impeccable service. An oasis surrounded by the beautiful Mediterranean landscape, only five minutes away from the renowned Porto Cervo Village, perfect for those who love the beach, relaxing on the gold sand or the fun of the aquatic sport. However we regret to learn that your experience was not completely satisfactory. First of all we apologise again for the private car inconvenience, even if it did not depend on us it should not have happened. We are happy to learn that our efficient staff was able to help you and work it out, so making that experience less stressful. As in regards of the hotel position and distance, next time you’ll visit us please do not hesitate to ask the concierge about our convenient car rental service, so that you will be able to reach without any problem the nearby towns as also to visit our beautiful land. We are also sorry to learn that you were not able to take advantage of our beach bar drink service, which is normally given to all our guests.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 29, 2011

My husband and I stayed here early Sept 2011 for a week. We stayed on a special offer basis of HB, car hire included and premium room with sea view. Firstly, it took 5 attempts for me to get the hotel to book my car hire which was included in our hotel rate. When we arrived to pick up the car it was the oldest, smallest most battered car I've ever driven. It was so bad we had to laugh. Anyway, we arrived at the hotel & the room was nice enough, the bed was very comfortable, no tea & coffee making facilities in the room (which I hate as they are trying to money grab more money when you order one), and the terrace was tiny-only enough room for a small table & 2 chairs but the view was fantastic straight out to the sea and a mountainous island in the distance. I'd rate the hotel room itself as average but the view great. The private beach area is nice and sandy but rather coarse sand, not powder. There is a lovely restaurant on the beach but it was only open for lunch when we were there which was a shame. For dinner the main restaurant is sighted higher up in the hotel and looks across the grounds of the hotel to the sea which was lovely. The food was fantastic. Dinner started with a buffet of salads, italian meats, cheeses, seafood etc followed by a pasta dish, then fish or meat and then dessert. Portion sizes were big. Annoyingly they would bring petite fours but not offer tea or coffee - you literally had to pin them down to bring you a coffee. By the way breakfast was below average. The usual buffet assortment but you would expect a hotel of this standard to offer a freshly cooked breakfast if wanted but there was only some awful dried up warm food on hot plates - yuk! Anyway, brace yourself if you stay here for the prices. A small glass of Moet 24 euros, a bottle of Moet 160 euros, a small can of coke 14 euros, local wines about 150 euros. My husband played the golf course 3 times which he loved. His a 7 handicap & found it difficult, narrow fairways etc. but the views are spectacular.
We did have a lovely time, glad we went, not sure we would go back at this point. You pay over the top for where the hotel is i.e costa smeralda rather than the hotel itself. I've stayed in many hotels of this standard that are better but it was worth the experience.

Dear LouiseM15,
We are glad to learn that you enjoyed your recent stay in our hotel. The Romazzino hotel is renowned for its attentive and impeccable service, its suggestive location just in front of the emerald sea and the finest restaurants where to enjoy the freshest local products. However, we regret to learn that your stay was not completely satisfactory as we always strive to give a full great experience to all our guests. Early September is still considered to be peak season; therefore prices also reflect the higher demand of this busy time. We would like to invite you to also consider coming visit us in either May or early June, to discover the beautiful nature which is at its best in that period, or even late September, when you may find really convenient offers and packages. We are also sorry to learn that our breakfast buffet, which is highly appreciated for its luscious and fresh food, did not meet your expectation. Furthermore, I would like to personally apologise for the problem you experienced with the car hire. I sincerely regret the inconvenience caused to you because of this. Please be assured that the issue has been addressed and that appropriate actions have been taken. We take pride in our hotel and do our best to prevent problems from recurring.
We would like to thank you for taking the time to share your opinion, which is always important to us in order to improve and look forward to welcoming you really soon to show you the true level of hospitality and service that makes our hotel unique.

A fantastic hotel on a beautiful sandy beach. The service is authenic italian and very good indeed.

From the check in, at the small pictureaqe reception, to the lovely bar and that wonderful bar terrace, all the way to the tilde rooms and the nice balconies. Everything is suthentic and old fashioned, yet fresh.

I stayed there only 1 night and the food was superb. I found it overpriced but then it was all worth it. Thre were a lot of families with children,s o I think may be bringing the family along is an option although I think August is too expensive as it is the pick season.

Dear fred n,

It is with great pleasure that we have learnt of your recent stay in our hotel. We are glad you had such a good experience even if only for 1 night and that you are planning your next visit, already. The Romazzino is renowned for its distinctive location where to enjoy the beautiful emerald sea, its unique design and architecture and the impeccable service offered by our attentive and dedicated staff. It is also considered to be a perfect family resort as it offers a kids club with a team of professionals and areas for children to have fun. As you mentioned, August is peak season in Sardinia; therefore, prices also reflect the high request of this busy period. We allow ourselves, then, to suggest you May, June or September as the perfect time to discover our beautiful land and take advantage of more affordable offers and special packages.
We look forward to welcoming you and your family really soon.

We chose this hotel based on the recommendation of the Tripadviser. We stayed here for 5 nights in June 2011.
Costa Smeralda is marvellous , elegant and very expensive destination. So If you want to spend much money -Stay here !
The Romazzino's biggest advantages are: location, beach - just a few minutes walk down ( but pebbly with ice cold water-unfortunatelly ) and great ,romantic views from each room and dining room terrace ..
The staff is very friendly and unfailing helpful, nothing is too much trouble for them. Amaizing service.
The rooms are clean, done up nicely with light tones and new forniture in a charming Italian way.
We were on a full board basis ( 140 Euro/per person/per day . 280 Euro for 2 people without drinks). We ate lunch in other hotels and for diner we usually stayed in romazzino restaurant.
My small a few compleins are that the pool isn't heated , rooms are not soundproof ( we could easily hear what people were talking and doing in the neighboring rooms ) ,the food wasn't us good us supposed to be in 5* hotels and isn't good value to money. Generally the food and beverages operations charge rediculously high prices.
In summary we spent nice time here and honestly I would recommend this hotel.
Most liklly we will come back here in the near future .

Dear stokrotka,

We are glad to know you had such a pleasant stay in our hotel and that the many positive reviews from the “trip advisers” who stayed here could help you make this choice. The Romazzino hotel is renowned for its impeccable service, its amazing restaurants and its great location right in front of the beautiful emerald sea. At the same time, we are sorry to learn that your stay was not completely perfect despite we always strive to give all our guests a full, amazing experience. We regret you could not completely enjoy our swimming pool, which is not heated due to the external location and its use during the warm summer season. We are also sorry that the restaurant, which is highly appreciated as well for its fine service and luscious food, did not completely meet your expectations.
We assure you we will take your suggestions into great consideration to make sure your next visit will be just unforgettable. Then, we look forward to welcoming you really soon.

Since the restaurant and bar are part of the hotel I could not do a separate review. I did not stay here although next trip, this will be my place of choice, this is a fabulous site.
We came to the hotel from a recommendation by the owner of the enoteca in Porto Cervo. He said we should go and have a apperitivo on the terrace - it would be an experience not to forget and he was right. In fact, it was so stunning and breathtaking as well as, outstanding appetizers and bubbles, we asked if we could stay for dinner even though we were not guests. They sent the Maitre to talk to us and he had to do the unfortunate task of telling us how much the fixed price menu was before allowing us to reserve the table. We were a bit surprised at the price, 160 Euros per person but you know what, what the heck. This would be worth it. So we said great and booked our terrace table.
Back to the wine terrace bar, this is a must for anyone visiting the Costa Smeralda, the view will take you to another place and if you can go when it is not high tourist season, it is the best.
The appetizers arrived, the classic olives, peanuts and chips but they followed with four spoons of delicate shrimp or astice with truffle shavings, then after those another group of spoons with other insanely delicate and delicious treats.
We moved to the dinning table after a while and were waited upon by 4 waiters. The service was par excellence and the food was superb. They offered an appetizer buffet as well as the desserts. The main courses offered choices made to order as well as the pasta dishes. The atmosphere was subdued, elegant and refined simplicity. Everyone spoke at least four languages so no one was left out of touch due to language difficulties.
Granted this was very expensive but it was worth every second of every dime spent. The staff is very friendly but also knows it's place, informative and helpful when needed and entertaining when appropriate.
If you are able to take the plunge here, at one of the Aga Khan's orginal hotels, this is the place. Bring your nice clothes and have fun dressing up.
